The OaO 2003-2004 NBA Season Thread!

Guest FrigidSoul

I just want you to all know that I have won my NBA Fantasy League. With only like 4 days left in the season there is no way anybody can catch me. Since I am a champion I will tell you who will win it all.

The Minnesota Timberwolves. They have far too much depth along with the hands down selection for league MVP in Kevin Garnett.

Edit: By the way I ripped off the Simpsons and named my team "The No Homers". My team does not have a single Homer on it even though they ae allowed one.

I have a question for Alf, or anybody...

Where did Marquis Daniels come from ?

This kid is a problem (I mean that in a good way) I think he's a free agent next year so whoever picks him up will be making a good investment for the future.

Speaking of guys from Auburn, what the hell ever happened to Chris Porter? I think Golden State might have drafted him in the 2nd round, but I never heard of him after that.

Well the 21 straight playoff appearance streak is all but over now. Portland's loss to Denver means they'll have to beat both the Lakers and Spurs, while both Denver and Utah lose all their remaining games, and i severely doubt that'll happen. I knew they'd get my hopes up for nothing.

The Kings are just sad at the moment. Webber's feet may be glued to the floor, NEVER a good sign when Vlade Divac probably has more grace than you do.

I can't stand the Lakers but they'll win by 20 on Sunday most likely.

Well it's down to Nuggets and Jazz, as both Rocky Mountain teams fight for the 8 spot. Both teams stand at 42-38. Whoulda thunk it?

Denver's gotta play the Kings and Spurs.

Utah's gotta play the Wolves and Suns.

If both teams get the same record in the two games, Denver has the tiebreaker.

I've gotta give the edge to the Jazz.

I'm not the biggest Basketball fan...but who's going to win rookie of the year?

I looked up the stats of both James and Anthony...and they average the same amount of points per game.

I know James is the bigger "star" but his team's won a bunch less games...in the EAST.

Here's a limerick:

Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James.

Their achievements are nearly the same.

But what's probably right

is that if they were white,

they'd flip-flop their first and last names.

If the Nuggets make the playoffs they have to give it to Anthony. If both teams miss LeBron will get it.

Well Lebron goes for 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.6 steals a game but he also turns it over 3.5 times a game, 41% field goal percentage on top of that and as mentioned, his team sucks by Eastern conference standards and that is truly saying something.

Anthony is at 21, 6 boards and 3 assists per game, 1.2 steals with 3.1 turnovers, and 42 % field goal percentage. Carmelo's team ahs actually won a few games down the stretch though, so the only correct answer is to give the ROTY award to Kirk Hinrich and be done with it.

Yeah, seriously, give it to Melo, he's going on, Bron is going home.

The "Experts" say Lebron has it in the bag.

I was never much of a big Lebron James fan, but he really impressed me this season. Yet, I've been following Carmelo since his senior year in high school.

In my opinion, they should both be given the award... but when you look at it, if the Nuggets make the playoffs, it should go to Carmelo.

Stats are good, but Carmelo has gotten his team futher in a short period of time.

Oh yeah...my other question was what was Detroit thinking on draft day?

Oh I have a limerick for that too.

There once was a fellow named Milicic

Who was certainly a coveted draft pick

But when his skills were not ready

On the bench he was steady

Now he thinks Larry Brown is a fat prick

Yeah I don't know what they wqere thinking either

What's up with those commercials featuring Dirk Nowitski and Charles Barkley? Maybe they're not technically comparing the two, but it looks like they are, and if that's the case than I can't see any similarities. There weren't any older players who fit Dirk's mold better, or any young guys who fit Barkley better?

I believe they had a similar one earlier with Paul Pierce and Barkley as well. Maybe Chuck is just the only guy they have the rights too, I dunno.

I think you have to give it to Melo now. He carried his team past Portland tonight and they're looking playoff bound.

As far as Darko goes, Detroit had every spot filled starting line up wise and essentially just took a risk on a kid turning into something special. Give em time. Remember, Jermaine O' Neal pretty much sucked at first too. They basically had a chance to gamble and even if it went badly, they still had a damn good team to work with. It wasn't like with the Cavs where they needed help then and now. Check back in 2 years seems to be what Detroit is going with.

Chris Porter was arrested for possession of cocaine.

Nowitzki really doesn't compare to any player in Barkley's day. The 7'0 swingman, who could just has easily knock down a 3 pointer, has block a shot or pound on the boards.

How long ago was Porter arrested? Is this a pending case? I wonder if he was playing for anybody before that.

But Dirk doesn't pound anything. Chuck was a beast on the court. Dirk is a REALLY big guard who doesn't like contact.

Well to be fair, Dirk does get about 9 boards per game but thats probably more of a product of him being 7 feet tall and on a team full of non rebounders than him really being a great glass cleaner.

Golden State Warriors...#7 or #8 seed by next year?

Unless they hit it big in free agency, I doubt it, as Damps is a FA and is likely to leave.

I guess I exaggerated a bit when I said Wade should be ROTY...I just think he should be getting Melo/Bron-level respect because of what his team's done and what he's done, but he's gotten barely anything, as SVG is getting most of the credit for the Heat's success. In Denver, Melo has more talent around him than Wade does IMO, yet they're giving us the impression that he's totally responsible for Denver's success, while I've heard Bzdelik's name come up as a COTYC literally ONE time.

So I'll reword what I said, Wade *deserves* to be ROTY, but Carmelo *should* win it.

Jamal Crawford drops 50 on the Raptors as the Bulls win in OT.

Richard Jefferson is on the Olympic team. Said he was a replacement for Vince Carter, but from what I knew VC himself was a replacement in the prelims for Kobe. So I don't really know what's going on there.

Three fouls on Shaq with just over 7 minutes left in the first half.

And a T from the bench to boot.

I'll take your word for it...I just expected better from Rivers, being a former player and coach.

Instead we get yet another Laker homer.
