The Life and Times of Shane Helms

Entry #53 Wednesday, October 29th, 2003.

It's almost Halloween!!!! And I have to admit that the not-so-hidden child within me absolutely loves this particular holiday. But I won't be able to pass out candy this year as I've agreed to do a personal appearance at ZB Falcons in South Bend, IN for the NBWA (New Breed Wrestling Association). And why would I agree to do this? One reason: SHARK BOY!!! LOL As some of you may or may not know, Shark Boy is one of my Hurri-peeps from waaaay back in the day. Anyway, he asked me to make an appearance at this show, so there ya go, I'm there!

I had a lot of fun this past Monday in Fayetteville, NC or FayetteNam as it is better known. I thought that RAW was pretty good, and I was pleased with my match against La Resistance as I teamed up with Big Bad John Heidenreich (I have no idea if I spelled that right) in his WWE debut match. John was, I believe, the 39th person that I've teamed with since coming to the WWE, if you include House Shows. I always like teaming with new people. However, I did miss my partner in crime fighting, Rosey, but as I understand it he was busy doing a photo shoot for this weekend's edition of the Daily Globe. And begin!

Now before I go any further, I have a confession to make . . . I just got finished watching the finale of The Joe Schmo show and I have to admit that I loved that show. LOL Despite some of the ridicule that will come with this admission, I'm standing my ground. I generally hate reality shows, but this particular one had a "feel good" attitude about it that made me want to watch it. Just had to get that out!

A quick congrats to Chris Jericho on becoming a father to a 8lb 8 oz bouncing bundle of joy that he named Ash Edward, but that will probably become knows as Baby Bling Bling. :)

A quick "get well soon" to Rodney Mack who also got hurt recently. Despite our recent backstage antics, The Mizzle (as I call him) and Hurri-Nizzle (as he calls me) are very good friends and have actually become even better friends because of our backstage antics. That's just how us Southern Boys are, we all got a little redneck in us.

The MCL sprain in my right knee continues to be a pain in my . . . well, knee, but I have high hopes that it will heal sooner than later because as we all know, limpin' ain't easy.

I'm really looking forward to the Ric Flair DVD coming out soon. That is just gonna be an awesome addition to my DVD collection. Speaking of which, I recently added the first season of Will & Grace, the second season of 24, and the only season of The Tick! 24 is simply the most compelling and suspenseful TV show that I've ever seen and comes with my highest possible recommendation. Will & Grace is a really funny show that should be titled Jack & Karen, as the backup players are the real stars of the show. And The Tick, while short-lived and not nearly as funny as the cartoon version was still a great show that I really enjoyed watching.

Myself and CWF'er Michael Yamaha went and saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre last weekend and I thought that it was pretty damn scary. I must be getting soft as I get older because Horror movies never used to faze me at all, but Texas along with The Ring "got me" pretty good. I just need to be held I guess. Any takers? :)

I went and watched another Carolina Wrestling Federation show this past weekend, and was treated to one of the best gimmick matches that I've seen in all of wrestlings recent history. A wrestler named Rob "The Bull" McBride, who I've actually known since I broke into the biz, came out dressed like, danced like, and to the music of Jimmy "Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant. He then got on the microphone and challenged a local heel manager to a match. To make it even funnier, he kept calling the manager "Paul Jones" and referred to the CWF commishioner as "David Crockett." It was seriously a very funny site to behold! The CWF continues to be my favorite indy promotions.

And while we are on the topic of indy's, everyone should check out the G.L.O.R.Y. Website. It's a site devoted to the women of the independent wrestling world and while I was looking through the site I couldn't help but notice some of the cool names and gimmicks that some of these ladies had come up with! I've always been a fan of cool names. For instance, I liked Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfand before I ever saw him box, same went for Hector "Macho" CaMacho. In wrestling, there was Sid Vicious, Terra Ryzing, Van Hammer, and so on and so on. So anyway, some of the ones that I popped for were: Angyl, 21st Century Fox, Tara Charisma (one of my favs), Destiny's Diamond, Ivanna B. Eighten (LOL, that's awesome!) Hurricane Havana (who I guess is a female version of me), Nikki Lace, LuFisto, Moonpuppy (a female MoonDog, you gotta love that!) Noel, Savvy, ODB, Special K, and Velvet "VD" Divide (now that's catchy). And there are many, many others on the site that are very good as well. A ton of work went into this site, so check it out if you get the chance.

And finally it seems that once again, the wrestling world has suffered great losses with the passing of both Stu Hart, and Michael "Hawk" Hegstrand. I honestly didn't know Stu Hart as a person, but his impact of the world or wrestling was just tremendous and without question. And with all the accounts of what kind of person he was, he sounds like someone that I could really relate to. Someone that didn't get pushed around, and someone that stood up for himself, and what he believed in, REGARDLESS of the consequences. I wish I would have known him.

The Road Warrior Hawk on the other hand was someone that I did know, and someone that I grew up being a huge fan of. I mean who didn't like The Road Warriors? Hawk's signature, "Well!" and his, "Oh, what a rush!!!" rank up there with some of the original catchphrases before catchphrases became commonplace. While one of the best tag-teams ever, I always thought that Hawk could have branched out on his own to become an even greater singles star. Hawk simply had it all. His aura of invincibility make it seem strange to me that he is gone. God bless both these men.

Well, that's all for now, until next time,

Stay cool.

Shane

Maybe I'll read this one day.

What was the point of saying that?

I think you're right, there seems to be a direct correlation between lack of push and webpage quality. As a push decreases, webpage quality rises (points to Lance Storm and his site).
