OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2003 Last night's SmackDown! did a a 3.7 broadcast rating, with a 6 share, according to Nielsen Media Research. I am away from home and can't check the archives, but it's the best number I can remember the show doing in some time. The interesting thing is it was the first night of November sweeps and went up against big competition, and still scored well. It may be an over-simplification, but the only different thing on the show was that it was the first week that fans knew Paul Heyman would be on the show. Heyman=Ratings? Maybe so! 1wrestling.com

SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2003 Smackdown sounds like it was really pathetic this week. If I went to a show that consisted of 3 matches where the longest one was six minutes long, I'd feel cheated and angry. Velocity had better be pretty fucking spectacular this week. Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted October 31, 2003 Jesus Christ, Sherer is such a fucking Heyman cheerleader. He doesn't even try to hide it. And what's ironic is that Heyman is supposed to be "all about the wrestling", yet it was almost non-existant in yesterday's show. So which is it, Sherer? You can't have it both ways. haVoc 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2003 I don't think Heyman is writing the shows. He's a puppet like the rest.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted October 31, 2003 There wasn't anything really going against it like the last few weeks. It was the first day of sweeps. All the networks were putting on quality episodes (supersized in NBC's case) against it.

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 C'mon, they set up a whole bunch of Angles last week - of course people are going to watch this week to see what happens. And they set up plenty more last night. Wrestling-wise, SD may not have had much but I think as far as laying the foundation for Survivor Series it did a great job. We're 3 weeks away from the show and they card for the PPV is almost complete. Personally, I'm curious to see where this John Cena situation leads and as to if he does join Brock's team ... or ... if he replaces an injured Farooq on Angle's team, thus turning face. ...Stranger things have happened. I say have Cena join Angle's team, completing the face turn, and have A-Train complete the Miracle Hoss Connecion, as Anglesault calls Team Lesnar.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 I agree. They did a lot of advancement and development of characters and feuds. I would dig the McMahon thing of going-to-hell if it didn't actually involve a McMahon. Morgan and Jones were introduced well; Jones has an awesome look and totally took the attention away from Brock, Show, Morgan, and Heyman - I'll admit that - but appeal on look alone won't last long. Taker's reasoning actually made sense... this feud would be pretty 'smart' if it didn't involve a McMahon. The Benoit/Angle alliance, I always dig. As someone who doesn't hate Hardcore Holly, I don't hate his promos against Brock - typical revenge story... short and simple... exactly what it needs to be. The APA are worthless, but Bradshaws lariat makes me not hate his inclusion in the tag match The Boston Bad Boyz explode... I can't say that I like that. The Wookie line and subsequent "No dude, the chicks dig it... they can't see you...oooookay" had me laughin . And there was that Eddie thing... I'm not a huge fan of Eddie's promos, so I didn't really watch it..
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 The APA are worthless, but Bradshaws lariat makes me not hate his inclusion in the tag match Maybe Taker will share his absorption powers with Bradshaw, and he can finally gain the skills of Hansen to match it. A few other notes: thank God that they apparently aren't setting up any angles involving Torrie. Apparently her s***ty week-to-week ratings clued them in that no one gives a flying f*** about her as a character. So they decided to have her come out, tease nudity/publically sucking Funaki off, then have her hit the bricks so she can go to her midgets-on-full-size-skank-gangbang she's attending or whatever. Yet, that segment could have easily been done like the Bourbon St. Bikini crap, since it didn't advance any angles or anything. And yes, I know not every TV show will have lots of wrestling on it, and I can accept that for the last show before the PPV, but that's the way it's been going and the way it's going to continue, so I'm not as forgiving. Yet, the dipshits have spoken, and they want as little wrestling as possible, skanks, and McMahons.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Report post Posted November 1, 2003 "Yet, the dipshits have spoken, and they want as little wrestling as possible, skanks, and McMahons." True...so very true That statement right there is why I don't think WWE will be around 6-10 years from now. When the wrestling/matches don't draw anymore, a WRESTLING promotion (which WWE is whether they claim to be or not) is doomed.
jester 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 I wouldn't worry about this rating too much. I think next week's rating will be beyond shitty, because everyone who watched this week will tune out next. It's a vicious circle.

I think next week's rating will be beyond shitty, because everyone who watched this week will tune out next. It's a vicious circle. Well, they built up matches for next week, so we'll see. I wouldn't hold my breath though--ratings probably will be higher. After all, the success of reality TV, modern pop music, Limp Bizkit, the 2000 identical stupid sitcoms on network TV, a number of movies #1 at the box office, etc. tells you that America loves crap.
