What ten guys would you pick for the cover of a...

Recommended Posts

I just saw this topic over at WC and, once again, thought I'd post it over here to see what you guys would say. Just as the topic says, if you could pick ten guys to be on the cover of a history of the WW(E/F/W) book, what guys would you choose? To keep anyone from trying to be a smart ass, include WWWF also, heh. Here are my quick picks...

Bruno Sammartino

Bob Backlund

Hulk Hogan

The Undertaker

Bret Hart

Steve Austin

The Rock

Roddy Piper

Bobby Heenan

Billy Graham

...also, as I stated at WC, I understand how important Vince McMahon and his entire family is, obviously, but if they were to release a book about the history of the federation, I see no reason why Vince would have to be on the cover, to take away once again from one of the actual workers.

Just have a huge chapter inside of the book with a few pictures and the such about the entire McMahon family, perhaps chapter one, and leave the outer cover to those of the ring.

Ok, once I return later, I'll post WHY I picked the guys that I did, if the topic is still active.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

My ten-

Hulk Hogan

Randy Savage

Bruno Sammartino

Bret Hart

Stone Cold Steve Austin

The Rock

Mick Foley

Rowdy Roddy Piper

Andre the Giant

Billy Graham

Why not Bob Backlund? Cause no one really remembers him too much and Bruno and Billy Graham were much more over and important.

Hogan, Rock, Bruno, Austin, Bret are all self-explanatory.

Andre is one of the most famous wrestlers in the mainstream (right up there with Rock/Austin/Hogan) so I think he qualifies. Plus he headlined Wrestlemania 3.

Hogan needed a good heel to play off of and Piper was his running buddy in the peak years of the 80s.

When he wasn't feuding with Piper...Hogan was feuding with Savage. Savage is probably the second most famous wrestler from the golden age of the 80s.

Billy Graham was the first big heel in the WWWF and paved the way for Steiner, Rude and others.

Mick Foley was the one guy who was able to get over with 3 different gimmicks at the same time and the fans developed a love and a bond with him after seeing all he had went through. He also made people realise that wrestling fans can read- opening up a previously untapped market.

Bobby Heenan is a WWF Staple. He was one of the most influential managers in the company, possibly only second to "Classy" Freddie Blassie in that respect.

Andre no clue.

Savage...well, except for announcing, Savage never really made as big of an impact as he could. Of course, when he was partnered with Hogan WHILE WWF CHAMPION didn't help him any.

But still...unlike guys like Hogan, Austin, Hart, Michaels, Andre, Sammartino, Backlund, and the like...he wasn't that influencial to long term change.

(NOTE: If someone thinks I should start a new topic for this message, just tell me later)

Along the same lines...which 10 guys would you put for a history of WCW book and a history of ECW book?

Hulk Hogan

The Rock

Steve Austin

Shawn Michaels

Bret Hart

The Undertaker

Andre the Giant

Randy Savage

Mick Foley

Bruno Sammartino

I'm gearing the cover for the more casual fan or even the non-fan, both of which would have little problem naming most of the wrestlers featured.

LESNAR?!

Lesnar, at one time, is someone I thought could be built right to be the next Hogan or Austin.

Hell, once in an E-Fed, I had Hogan, Austin, and Lesnar become a team, calling themselves the Ultra Powers.

Hall and Nash (The NWO Was huge)

Ric Flair

Dusty Rhodes

Sting

Vader

Hulk Hogan

Harley Race

Ricky Steamboat

Lex Luger

Just curious though...for the picture of Sting...would it be Multicolor Sting or Crow Sting?

EDIT: Personally, I always liked Multicolored Sting better for some reason.

Hulk Hogan

Shawn Michaels

Bret "The Hitman" Hart

I mostly included workers from the past 15 years or so because the company was never as profitable or as popular as when those workers were huge.
