Guest Kane Fan Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 So what do you all think of it? How many stars would you give it? (Is there a reason there was basically no selling?)
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 I loved that match. It had excellent wrestling with excellent crowd response. It just shows you that ECW didn't need to be hardcore to be great. Out of 5 stars, I would give it 4 1/2. I liked the speech afterwards, but some idiots kept interrupting Malenko, so I couldn't understand some of it. And I thought ECW fans were smart.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 The match was very good but not as good as Hostile City Showdown...but any time Malenko and Guerrero get together, one should take notice.
RavishingRickRudo Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Holy Shit, I agree. I found some of the 2/3 falls lagged (though It's been a while since I watched it... hmm.. I should watch it again) and I was pretty disappointed in it given the hype. But HostileCity. was a fine piece of match.
Guest Real F'n Show Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Enter Sandman and Hostile Cuty Showdown were better but I'd still give this match 4 1/4 out of 5 stars
Tawren Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 **** from me. The crowd is just great here. I won't go higher because of the stupid ending that was extremely contrived. Still a classic.
Guest JPF Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I need to rewatch it, but maybe ***1/2

Of course, it was their ONLY match in ECW that got ANY crowd heat. -=Mike
JustJoe2k5 Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 It wasn't as great as it had been made out to be, but it is still a very good match. ****
Guest Corino 1000 Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I loved both of there matches. They were great. But as Jumpink Jack Flash said some moron in the crowd kept screaming while Eddie, and Malenko were giving thier speech. I'd give **** and a half stars.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 **** from me. The crowd is just great here. I won't go higher because of the stupid ending that was extremely contrived. Still a classic. Eh, all wrestling endings are contrived.

Eh, all wrestling endings are contrived. I'll use spoiler warnings for fun here: Spoiler (Highlight to Read): To a point, yes, but a draw in a 2/3 falls match in their last ever match in ECW?

Well it was a fitting end to their run together, neither got the better of one another. Contrived was just a poor choice of words because all finishes in wrestling are contrived and pre-planned....minus a few.

Guest Dynamite Kido Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 I would go with ****1/4.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Even in my mark days, I loved their ECW matches.
Michrome Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 I thought it was ***1/4 Too short for a 2/3 falls match, and the HCS match was much better. Still, the crowd heat made it very enjoyable.
Coffin Surfer Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 I'm not a fan of the so called Malenko/Guerrero classics in ECW. Of the three that I've seen, Hostile City Showdown was probably the best, since Guerrero inserted himself much more and did his best to keep it from becoming a Malenko wrestling jerk off. Take for instance when they lose the crowd during the test of strength spot, Guerrero smartly cuts the sequence short and hits the Uranage Suplex to get the crowd's attention again. But still, you have stuff like the 2 minute top wristlock to remind you that this is a Dean Malenko match. It's not bad, but it is dull at times, and way short of greatness.
