Who could be the huge breakout star TNA needs?

Who out of everyone on the roster or that is attainable could be the breakout star TNA needs? I don't really watch much TNA, indies, or wrestling for that matter anymore so I really wouldn't be able to say. Is there anyone there with needed combination of charisma, look, and ring skills in your opinion?

AJ Styles has got a good look and a lot of talent and he CAN talk, but some people are put off by his southern accent.

 

Raven's got the talent, charisma, and some sort of name value but he isn't really the guy you want representing your federation if you wanna go mainstream.

 

Chris Daniels has the talent and charisma but not the look.

Its not who the company pushes to become the best of the best, I think its how the market the wrestlers well. If they market the X-Divison right, push the right guys, and sign some talent that can get them into a great TV Time slot, then all is good.

Its not who the company pushes to become the best of the best, I think its how the market the wrestlers well. If they market the X-Divison right, push the right guys, and sign some talent that can get them into a great TV Time slot, then all is good.

That's pretty much how I feel. There really isn't a single person who can carry TNA to greatness. It's how they market the whole promotion.

They both have the similarity that in their early stages their rosters were both comprised of some washed up older talent and future stars.

I agree in the aspect of that the entire promotion has to be marketed properly, though I think Styles, Daniels, Abyss, AMW, Sabin all have the potential to be huge stars eventually.

See where I don't really get it is that TNA has a very big league feel to it due to production while ECW, even in the last days, always felt bush league. TNA has also been able to land stars that Heyman would've sold his mom to get ahold of. And TNA doesn't completely pander to the Smarks like ECW did.

Yeah but remember it was harder for a company like ECW to land big stars back then because they had to 2 other Huge promotions to compete with. While TNA just has WWE.

I do agree with you that TNA has much better production and big name talent, and in that sense it is ahead of ECW. I guess part of it is the upstart nature of both promotions. TNA's 'ECW Light'-ness also comes from all the ECWers who've showed up there (Raven, New Jack, Sandman, Justin Credible, Sabu, Shane Douglas...)

Ron Killings for the Heavyweight Division. He was the TNA breakout star for 2002,then he lost the belt. He is very charismatic, and could bump like hell. He seems to be very marketable. Then he just kind of disapeared. Everyone knows he was great. He could play either side face or heel. Solid look. Solid wrestler. He can't really cut a promo though.

 

Sonjay Dutt for the X-division. Chrisma,good look. He looks like a wrestler. Look at the man he is built. He could get over really quickly as a face or heel. Awesome wrestler that is incredibly solid for the stuff he pulls out. I just doubt this will happen because they want the X-division to be less spots. Oh well. I havent seen much of his mic work. I saw a few promo of his in MLW. They were about 12 seconds though.

 

You could build around those guys with AJ,Daniels,Sabin,and others. Then you can push those guys and evolve.

How i wish they would of kept Killings in the title picture...

 

He was a decent enough worker... had some good matches with Lynn and Jarrett... can't remember the Ki one.... Good on the mic.... That Ricky Steamboat/Killings segment was definately a moment of 2002 in TNA and in wrestling... And he has a good look...

I'd have to go with Ron Killings and Chris Sabin... a feud between those two, if done right, could be burning... burning enough for one of the TV execs to smell the smoke and give them a TV deal.

Chris Daniels has the talent and charisma but not the look.

 

What the hell are you on? Would you rather his look with hair, now that looked "indy". His priest robe attire is unique and cool, with the potential to be controversial if it got exposure and they played to it. The bald head is fashionable at the moment. His tights are simple, but they could sell insane amounts of merchandise on his ankh/wings logo if he was popular enough(and the "Fallen Angel" chants show that he is on his way, if not there already). Plus he has an evil smile that ranks right up there with CM Punk's. What's not to like about Daniels' look?

TNA only hurts itself by bringing in these "stars", it looks like the land of WWE/WCW rejects instead of a group of great, overlooked talent, which was what ECW based things on. ALso, even though ECW sucked dick from 97 on, ECW in 95 and 96 was a zillion billion times better than TNA is. So was ECW from 97-99, for that matter.

Styles and Killings will be huge one day. Mark my words.

 

-Both have the talent. Killings might not be a great worker by any means, but he's incredibly charismatic, and I've yet to see him in a bad match in TNA. I've enjoyed everything he's done on some level, and the way he adds the corkscrews while falling down after his kicks is SWEET. Ron Killings just needs a nice long feud to take him to the next level, and some lessons from superior workers on how to expand his already acceptable in-ring abilities.

And he can't cut a promo? Fuck you. Go watch the promo where he first called himself "The Truth." Best promo of 2002, hands-down.

 

-AJ is right on the fringe, and he could actually play the "Southern accent" card as part of his character. A wrestler from Georgia that wants to get rid of the connotation that all Southerners are hicks with two teeth in their head and fat wives. AJ has a great look, has excellent workrate, and is a damn solid worker. He's got charisma up the wazoo, and a solid feud would get him back over.

 

As for others that could help out along the way...

CM Punk, Chris Sabin, Christopher Daniels, Abyss (add some reasons as to why he's easily influenced by others to do their bidding, though), and Raven. I know Raven's already had his time, but he's pivotal in making TNA bigger. He has name appeal, and knows enough about the storytelling aspect of the industry to make even the worst match, as far as workrate is concerned, seem like a classic.

 

Know what I'd love to see? Killings/Styles and Killings/Raven.
