Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2003 Not really, but working at the campus TV station, I've seen that one "Stacy's Mom" video quite a bit. I think the homage to Fast Times is pretty funny... Hoff 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2003 I like their cover of Baby One More Time. Half of the bands in America have covered that song. Wayne's version isn't bad, but I've heard better. Interesting side note to that, invariably, every amateur night I went to when I was at school, if it was anything but a rap group on stage, they'd cover that fucking song. Just surreal. I think I actually have a cover I did on my computer somewhere. No point to be made on Wayne here, just making a comment. As for the band, they seem okay, although the only thing "Stacy's Mom" has going for it is the fun little video. The song's sandpaper on the ears, as far as I'm concerned. I just got back from getting coffee down at Dunkin Donuts and on the way back the rock station here was running a promo that went like this. "We here at The Edge bring you the best in music today. You won't hear (Christina song) and you won't hear (Britney/Madonna song) and you certainlty won't hear (Kelly Clarkson song). We're giving you the best in hard rock today!" ....... Anorak 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2003 Their first album is a modern power-pop classic but the 2nd album was meant to be mediocre/poor. In a funny way even though the first s/t album had perfect pop smarts you could still imagine them easily becoming a terrible MOR sounding act if they let the quality control slip or they became the kind of act they often parodied. Get their classic Xmas single 'I Want An Alien For Christmas'/'Man In A Santa Suit', essential for a good self made Xmas comp tape. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Utopia Parkway was hugely disappointing to me, in that it really only showed flashes of the brilliance that really seemed effortless on the first album. Why they seem to have hit a lot bigger with "Stacy's Mom" than with, say, "Denise" or "Radiation Vibe" is a total mystery to me, but it's easily their worst single yet and certainly doesn't have me clamoring to the record store to pick it up. "schoo-hooooo-hoooooool" !?!? I'm pretty sure the backing vocals are supposed to be funny. Like the song itself. Its not their best song, but I like the new album. Its not a patch on the first album- Radiation Vibe just owns all- and there's nothing as good as "Trouble Times" from the 2nd LP, but its still good pop.
