Big McLargeHuge Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Petco opens this coming season (2004).
Rob E Dangerously Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Petco Park It's alliteration-a-riffic
Guest Anglesault Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 It's stupid. The absolute worst though ironically enough, is "Qualcomm Stadium" Not just because the name is awful but because they dedicated the damn park to Jack Murphy and then renamed it
Big McLargeHuge Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 It was actually Jack Murphy Feild at Qualcomm Stadium, but yes, I see your point. How anyone can be proud of a stadium named after a frickin' Pet Store chain is beyond me. I don't imagine anyone is.
Guest Anglesault Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 It was actually Jack Murphy Feild at Qualcomm Stadium, I've never in my life heard someone say that. They call it "The Q" And I DREAD the day that the Yankees finally move and play at like Trojan Man presents George Steinbenner Memorial Stadium.
DerangedHermit Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 *shudders* I almost expect the NY Knicks and NY Rangers will start playing at Madison Square Garden at Cablevision Arena.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I heard they're going to have free dog grooming areas at Petco Park (not making it up to be funny)
DerangedHermit Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I heard they're going to have free dog grooming areas at Petco Park (not making it up to be funny) David Wells will love this. He needs grooming.
Guest Anglesault Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 *shudders* I almost expect the NY Knicks and NY Rangers will start playing at Madison Square Garden at Cablevision Arena. I think that would cause a riot.
DerangedHermit Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Riot is a big understatement.
Guest Anglesault Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Riot is a big understatement. I agree. No matter how the Rangers and Knicks get, you don't fuck wth MSG. Same reason why, the teams may move, but yankee stadium, Fenway Park and Wrigley Field won't be renamed.
2GOLD Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 With the Padres getting Wells, Maddux will still be available. There are rumors that the Cubs may be interested in and maybe even close to signing Maddux. If Maddux comes back to the Cubs, something tells me he will be headed for retirement sooner rather than later.

If Maddux comes back to the Cubs, something tells me he will be headed for retirement sooner rather than later. So the Cubs get Maddux immediately before and immediately after he is one of the greatest pitchers of all time. And they wonder why they can't win a World Series.

I love the Cubs, but to trade him away for garbage right before he breaks out, and then try and regain him after his best years are gone, is ridiculous.
Guest Anglesault Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 And they wonder why they can't win a World Series. I blame the goat.
Big McLargeHuge Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 And they wonder why they can't win a World Series. I blame the goat. Curses are retarded. But surprisingly funny at the same time. Come one! What other teams are cursed? Let's share.

Come one! What other teams are cursed? Let's share. I...can't...resist...it........no world titles since the Giants moved to San Francisco.
Guest Anglesault Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 The curse of the rainbow! JOKING!
King Kamala Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Is there a curse revolving around the Cleveland Indians not winning a world series since 1948. Than again Cleveland Indians have sucked about 50 of the 55 years since they've won the World Series.
Big McLargeHuge Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Fuckin As and their "World Series Championships". Ahem. I'll grant you, yes, the lack of SF WS titles is a bit suspect, but I refuse to believe there's some Frisco curse. Just an amazing string of bad luck. That's all. And why couldn't the Bums be the ones to crap out when the teams moved? Instead we get a 40 year period of getting our asses handed to us by the blues every year except like 3. I really hope there's a Yanks/Giants World Series this year, just to piss As fans off. I really do.
King Kamala Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 I bet there's a San Francisco curse and I'll be damned if it doesn't involve Rice-A-Roni.
MrRant Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 I bet there's a San Francisco curse and I'll be damned if it doesn't involve Rice-A-Roni. Maybe the players need to start eating Rice-A-Roni before every game. After all... it's the San Francsico Treat.
Vern Gagne Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Wrigley was really the originial company named ballpark. I'm not sure where the name Fenway came from.
the max Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 The new park was located in the Fenway section in Boston where the park was built in 1907.
Vern Gagne Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 It was actually Jack Murphy Feild at Qualcomm Stadium, but yes, I see your point. How anyone can be proud of a stadium named after a frickin' Pet Store chain is beyond me. I don't imagine anyone is. Who the hell cares what the name of the Stadium is. Just appreciate the fact Padre fans have a new stadium.
2GOLD Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Come on, Maddux would at LEAST make one of the best four-five starters in baseball. It's not like he's coming in to be the ace. He'd be the three-four with Wood, Prior and Carlos. Man, grabbing Maddux isn't a bad thing. He has playoff experience, he gives them a much needed fourth starter and he'll at least give them 6-7 solid innings a game. Can't be worse than Shawn Estes was.
King Kamala Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 I see Maddux fitting in with the Padres better than the Cubs. He could probably mentor the underrated pitching staff and at the very least help get the club to 70 wins. It's a win win situation for both sides.
Vern Gagne Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Cubs don't need to overspend on starters. They have 4 qualities ones already. I still see Maddux signing with Arizona. He slides behind Johnson, and allows Webb to stay the 3rd starter, and get another years experience.
