ESPN's "Playmakers" Season Finale

Recommended Posts

Overall I was satisfied with The Season Finale of ESPN's Playmakers. I was kind of disappointed, however, on what happened to The Show's more likable characters. ( I.E. O getting that Model knocked up, his girlfriend leaving him: Leon getting turned down for that announcer job because of the fight with D.H., then having to ask Willbanks for a front office job after he called him an asshole.) In the end, though, It was all worth It to see Taylor score the game winning TD after Coach George benched that arrogant dick D.H. The Cougars not making The Playoffs was sad, but kind of fit the theme of the series.

All In All I was pleasantly surprised with "Playmakers" this year. The Storytelling and Continuity were solid throughout. (Something The WWE should look Into) I just hope ESPN brings It back for a second season.

Great show. Happy the way it ended...although they gave not one person a happy ending, that was a little much. And you knew they weren't going to make the playoffs.

I'm all for another season.

Especially when they were showing it on TV and you go "oh yeah, Phoenix has that Vick-type guy".

D.H. probably had the happiest ending of all the principals, being that he knew he'd be back next year, and all his shit happened the show previous.

Couple of obscure actor sightings: Patrick McKenna (Red Green's nephew) was the financial advisor. The smoking Thea Andrews was back, and the "negotiator" was one of the thugs early on in 24 last year...

Leon's last name is Taylor, not White...he scored the Cougar's game winning touchdown

I thought it was decent...but the O-lineman getting diabetes pissed me off. The show needs better writers...good premesis but bad writing

DH got a happy ending and all...but he's the heel of the show. He didn't get into the end of the game...but he's above the coach as far as the owner's concerned.

I thought the diabetes story was a little dumb. Just seemed to come out of nowhere and be pointless. Had they done it earlier in the season where it would have been an issue longer and not just one episode, then it could have been better

I thought it was odd that they showed the team celebrating with champagne in the preview commercial... it seemed like that would give the ending away, which seemed odd.

But as soon as they broke it out before officially clinching, that's when I realized what was about to happen.

Great ending to the season, tho. I was somewhat interested at the start of the season, but by the end of the year, I was hooked. I can't wait for season 2.

I thought the celebration during the trailers was just a false teaser since it would have been the last thing filmed anyway.

Heard a rumor that ESPN will not make a Season 2, but I have no concrete source. Maybe too expensive to make and since the NFL doesn't like the portryal you drop the show since it doesn't make the advertising bucks the NFL does.

I was disappointed after the first two episodes because too much shit to happen in one season occured in two-three weeks, but I think it got better as it went along.

Where'd you hear this?

I remember hearing about that, too. On WIP (Philly sports radio) they talked about it, since Jeffrey Lurie was the one to make a public stink about it. They said that ESPN wasn't planning on bringing it back.

The ratings for the show were double what was on, in that slot before, but I don't think that is high enough to justify the cost and draw the ire of the NFL.

I think it was a great end to the series, and if the do a second season, it should be on a different team, or better yet an Arena Football team.

Even though the commercials said "Season Finale" the Outside the Lines ButterBall and SportsCenter people said "Series Finale"

Minor problem...the team recovered an onside kick...yet when it showed them with the ball back they were on their own 30. How could that happen? Unless they lost about 40 yards on a down and got knocked back

the series was great and ive heard the same thing about no second season as in NFL pressuring espn to drop it because of espn's relationship with the nfl and how the show can misrepresent nfl/football in a negative light

maybe espn can sell the show to a showtime or something?

the finale was a great example of how being predictible is not bad, but rewarding

as in , my wife hates football but loves the show (she thinks its like OZ which we both love) but even though she knows very little about fottball she noticed the team manager kept mentioning the tiebreakers the last few weeks and she said before it was over "they probably wont have the happy ending and miss the big game on some technicallity" and lo and behold thats what happened

it was a rewarding payoff to those who caught those details like that

i recognized two of the actors from somewhere else

the LB ozclowsky (im gueesing at the name) was on an epsiode of seinfeld i believe (the kenny rogers)

mcconnel was on one of the very early episodes of Buffy as some guy she went ona date with

just random observations that i noticed the last few episodes

it will be too bad if there is no other season i really would like to see the next step with leon

Not the same guy.

Olczyk is played by Jason Matthew Smith.

All Seinfeld sites credit Seth from the episode "The Chicken Roaster" as Mark Roberts, yet he's not found on IMDB.

That's where you normally start...remember you kick it at the 20 and it needs to go 10yards in order to gain possesion.

from nfl.com

1. The kickoff shall be from the kicking team’s 30-yard line at the start of each half and after a field goal and try. A kickoff is one type of free kick.

I think college football kicks from the 35. But it was probably just one of those lazy points, that they don't think anyone would notice. Because you would have to kick it regulation, then have it get knocked back 10 yards, which doesn't happen.
