Guest Just J Report post Posted November 13, 2003 (So Far) That's just funny. SI doesn't even believe they'll keep it up but they still put this on the cover.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 And this is a big deal how so? I'm not getting it. Seriously. Haven't heard of the SI Cover Jinx, have you? It seems whenever SI features a player or team that is doing very well during the season, they falter the very weekend after the issue comes out (especially in football) This also applies to the offseason. Nomar Garciaparra was on the cover one week and had a story that talked about his training regimen and such, and the very next week, he wakes up to a wrist that needs surgery and knocks him out for the majority of the season. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 Oh... I thought it was EA only... Forgot about SI completely. Hm... Funny, didn't SI also decide to help out with EA recently in their college games?
the max 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 The SI one has been happening for longer than the EA jinx.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 SI lists it all out in detail in this issue: Dated January 21, 2002. Easily obtainable from your local library Funny retrospect story in combination with a story from this issue: Kurt Warner was originally slated for the cover, but eventually decided not to go through with it, because he too believed in it, worrying that the combination of his #13 along with the subject matter would be a mega-jinx for him in the SB against New England... ...and you know how that one turned out. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 Fucking SI can't they devote a cover to LeBron or something? other SI covers 1/20/2003- http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/image.../0120_large.jpg 6/2/2003- http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/image.../0602_large.jpg (it took Clemens like 3 more tries to get 300 after that) 9/2/1996- http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online.../1996/0902.html Fucking Steve Bono and..of course.. this http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online.../1985/1028.html I think that between the time this came out and the 'published date', the Cardinals lost 3 out of 4 games and lost the world series. SI.. isn't there some Shaq/Kobe thing you can talk about?
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 13, 2003 I'd like to see Sports Illustrated put its owner on the front cover and then we'll see what happens
Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online.../1996/0902.html The irony in this one is that it was a double-wide foldout, and on the opposite side of the Chiefs were the eventual Super Bowl Champs of that year, the Fat Bay Packers And: We have a Chiefs fan here? Color me shocked
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 It was always hilarious to me that SI would pick a team led by STEVE BONO and a decidedly over-the-hill Marcus "Not a Hall of Famer" Allen to go to the Super Bowl. They must have all smoked a big old bowl of some really good shit when they did that.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 Marcus Allen not a Hall of Famer. Guess being in the Top 10 in rushing yard, and Top 5 in total yards, and touchdowns doesn't warrant making the HOF.

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2003 People shouldn't get too excited about Cincinnati just yet. Yes, the Chiefs win was impressive. Finally Peter Warrick is showing signs of being the 4th pick. They did lose too the lowly Cardnials.

In all fairness to the Bengals they got screwed by the refs and they let Dillion get most of the touches.
Mole 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2003 I remember hearing the jinx has a 43% chance of the team/person not doing well. Not only is there a jinx, but I can't remember the last time SI picked the correct team to win any kind of championship.
