Guest Nanks Report post Posted November 13, 2003 I scored an advance copy of the CD last night at a launch party, and as a long time Blink fan, back as far as Cheshire Cat, I was very pleased. For mine, they came good on their promise to play more "mature" rock and leave behind the bubblegum punk they've become famous for the last few years. Has anyone else heard this album yet?? If not, it is definitely worth a listen in my opinion. They let Travis Barker out of his cage on this album, and he can drum. Do yourself a favour...
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I tend not to believe anything they say. Especially when Tom said "This is our punkest album yet"...talking about Pants and Jacket which was far and away their most MTV friendly. I'll buy it though, I still like the band for the most part. Mik 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 You can listen to the entire album on MTV.com right now for free (as well as Jay-Z, Britney, Enrique and others) as part of Spankin' New Music week.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I was a huge Blink 182 fan when I was a high school freshman. It made sense back then. I still fondly remember Dude Ranch and Enema of The State, but when Pants and Jacket came out, I could tell that I'd already outgrown them. Now with this new album, I just can't relate anymore... which is sort of sad.

Guest HungryJack Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I dug Dude ranch and Enema , never picked up Pants and Jacket, but love their new single. I may get this. Hmm.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 Really? I don't really care for the new song. There is something really annoying about it.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I dug Cheshire Cat, Dude Ranch, and Enema. Now I hate Enema, and still enjoy the first two. Never got Buddha. Never listened to the other two newer ones. The new single is trash. Blink 182 circa 2003 is trash and I won't waste money proving that.
Guest whatitistoburn Report post Posted November 14, 2003 It's weird to admit, but I think the new record is amazing. There's something so... uniquely not blink 182 about it. And the track with Robert Smith is unreal.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted November 15, 2003 I couldn't agree more with that, the track with Robert Smith and track 5 - Stockholm Syndrome which has an intro of letters Mark Hoppus' grandfather wrote to his grandmother during WWII is really good. The only thing Blink 182 about this album is Tom De Longe's voice. I don't think the kids are going to like this album as much, but I urge everyone to at least give it a listen in the store, unlike a lot of albums the last 5 songs are stronger than the first 5, so don't give up if you don't like the first single

Guest mesepher Report post Posted November 17, 2003 ROBERT SMITH~!?!?!?! Not THE Robert Smith, hopefully.
Guest Burrito Report post Posted November 17, 2003 I always thought Travis Barker was a good drummer, but I never really got into blink182. I like BoxCar Racer though...although most people I know tend to think its crap.

Swift Terror 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 FYI, Blink 182 will be on the Jim Rome radio sports talk show. I think they will be on in the third hour, 2-3pm EST, but you may want to check out 1-2pm.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted November 22, 2003 Has anyone checked this out yet?? I'm disappointed to see this thread relegated to page 2. I know most people here really dislike Blink 182 and dismiss them as pop punk and just for teenage girls or whatever. But this album is so different. And yes, THE Robert Smith features in a fairly Cure-esque song. Try and find some songs on Kazaa or something I guess.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2003 Aside from Travis, I hate Blink 182, and always have. When the guys learn to sing, then maybe I'll think higher of them than a dingleberry. MAYBE.

Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 I hated Box Car Racer mostly because I can't stand Tom DeLonge's voice. I should listen to the full CD, though, as it does sound interesting.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 My buddy Danny played the entire CD during a party at his house over the weekend, and it didn't seem too offensive. But nothing really stood out to me...it was basically a CD of background music.
Guest Mr. Brook River Report post Posted November 25, 2003 I only heard a few tracks off of the new album, and the first thing I noticed that the real beauty came from the production. Some of the songs are impressive as far as structure goes, but not in much else. No matter where Blink goes, I have to credit them for opening the door for the "pop/punk" sound. Buddha was just guys playing really fast, Dude Ranch, wasn't much better, but definately showed a maturing group, but as far as I'm concerned the gem that defines the Blink 182 sound as most of their listeners know it was Enema of the State. It was the first Blink album that I bought, and I feel that it has the most replay value as well as, for a lack of a better word, catchiness. Sure I wish Tom and Mark would have traded singing spots in some songs, but other than that, I think that was their highest point. And now that I've trailed off into a topic entirely off topic, I leave you.
