So who gets the blame for SS bombing?

Recommended Posts

HHH: No, he's family and literally bullet-proof for obvious family

Golberg: Possibly, but there is no one else in the upper card face to support Raw save for him so he is exempt

Angle/Benoit/Lesner/Cena: Take the fall for not being able to carry the Hosses

Shane MacMahon: See HHH

Kane: Possibly but Kane (along with Chris Jericho) has been carrying Raw these last couple of months so I don't see him taking the fall, especially since Kane is bulletproof when it comes to McMahon stupidity.

UT: Possibly especially if HHH wants to eliminate his only real remaining rival in the WWE power structure

Chris Jericho: Possible but then again, like Kane, CJ has been the glue holding Raw together. Not to mention HHH needing to keep CJ strong so he can squash CJ again and again when he turns babyface soon.

Eric Bischoff: Work on the "Monday Night Wars" DVD brings back old feelings in Vince, causing him to blaime Bisch for the problems of the WWE.

Steve Austin: Cause you know Vince is just waiting for the right time to get his revenge on Austin for fucking him over last year and refusing to do his part to get Brock Lesner over....

I think Goldberg, "Because he didn't job well enough to HHH, HOW DARE HE NOT MAKE HHH LOOK GOOD IN THE RING!!"

Actually, I think they will blame it on the lack of Stephanie McMahon on the card. Who wants to see a PPV with only 2 McMahons on it? I know I don't.

It's not a mega event if it doesn't have at least 3 McMahons on it.

Steph is rumored to be part of the card. Just not an announced part of the card....

Y'know, it would make more sense to post this once Survivor Series is actually regarded as a piece of crap.

No Mercy looked shitty going in, but it actually wasn't too bad in the end. Survivor Series may still suck, but it would make more sense to insult it once it's actually over.

I'd say over half the people online actually WANT the shows to suck. Going into the show with a negative outlook isn't going to make the show any better.

I think he means SS bombing in terms of $$$$$$ it brings in.

No Mercy may have been "not too bad" but its buyrate still blew chunks. And someone undoubtably took the blame for that one.

(paraphrased from "The Summer of George" episode)

Kramer: Well, I- I Ms. McMahon I do need to talk to you about a little problem regarding, eh, your company...

[Linda kicks a chair out of her way.]

Linda: What kind of problem?

Kramer: Well, it seems that due to the vagaries of the production parameters of this fragmenting of the audience to the cable television, carnivals, water parks...

Linda: Out with it!

Kramer: Well, your show blew because you don't book things most fans want to see and your son hogs airtime and we can't stand your husband on TV all the time and I've gotta go...

[Kramer runs out, but Linda grabs him from the back]

Who is to say that the buyrate will bomb?

Out of my friends that watch wrestling, tonight will be the most packed my house will be for a PPV since Mania. I have had more than a couple people tell me about how they are psyched for the show and that the storylines are good. Apparently, others feel that the PPV has a big show "feel' to it, meaning they feel something big will happen at the PPV, as opposed to at RAW or Smackdown a night or two later.

I'll say it does 350,000 buys, what last year's Survivor Series did. Hell, according to Meltzer, the early estimates for Vince vs Steph is 250,000, and the interest in this show compared to that one is a huge difference.

Depends on who you believe but Meltzer said 250,000 for Oct. and 260,000 for September(with the final numbers for both expected to go up). I'd take Meltzer's word over any other "Sources" but believe what you will.

My # came from WWE's corporate website. And since when do numbers go up from their initial estimates? They usually go down - Judgment Day was a prime example of this when it initally was thought to have done even better than Backlash and ended up doing noticeably worse.

At any rate, it really doesn't matter how many people you have at your house because it'll just be one buy. And for it to be 350,000 buys total, there is going to have to be around 100,000 more that feel the same way as you. And somehow I doubt that.

A lot of things have changes since last year. All signs are pointing toward no one wanting to pay to see the product. TV ratings are holding, but house show attendance and PPV buys are going into the toilet. I'll be surprised if it breaks 200,000.

1993: 0.82 SS / 1.3 Avg –

1994: 0.90 / 1.1 –

1995: 0.57 / 0.75 –

1996: 0.58 / 0.6 =

1997: 0.89 / 0.61 +

1998: 0.89 / 1.03 –

1999: 1.14 / 1.3 -

2000: 1.00 / 1.34 -

SS Avg: 0.85

Typically, Survivor Series doesn't do very well. Some of the avg's should be adjusted because of the WM spike. But generally, Survivor Series doesn't do as well as Mania, RR, and Summerslam. It more closely relates to King of the Ring... but since KOTR is gone now, it's hard to get a good measure. There are more variables to take into account, as well as this years PPV performance, 2002s and 2001s. However, if someone wanted to guage how well this did compared to others, it would probably be "lower".
