Matt Young 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Months of rumors are now offical... According to guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo, Stone Temples Pilots have now officially broken up. No reasons was given for the breakup but one could believe it involves Scott Weiland's new project "Velvet Revolver." Source: Guitar One, via 411Music --------------- Well this definitely sucks. I was a pretty big fan of STP. Although I didn't purchase their later releases such as Number 4 and Shangri-La-Dee-Da, I did enjoy what I heard from those records, and I own Core, Purple, and Tiny Music.... They were an amazing band, one of the best rock groups of the '90s in my opinion. I haven't heard anything by Velvet Revolver outside of the first single, "Set Me Free", but I wasn't too impressed. Still, I have hope since I love(d) Guns 'N Roses, and Weiland's a great, charismatic singer who's great when he can stay out of jail/rehab.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Oh god..The last couple STP albums are so incredibly, terribly, unquestionably bad. They took the basic rock formula from Core, and Purple, only made every single song fall flat like a second-rate quiche.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 18, 2003 I thought they already broke up
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 I'd weep over this, but let's face it: STP hadn't had a decent album since about 1996.

Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Does this actually surprise anyone? Between Scott's substance abuse and Velvet Revolver, they actually stayed together longer than I thought they would.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 How do you guys think Velvet Revolver is going to turn out? The songwriting will have to fall in Scott's lap, as the good GNR shit was mostly taken care of by Axl and Izzy. And, IMHO, if you have heard one Slash riff you have basically heard em all. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 While this does suck, it comes as no surprise. I've been an STP since Core came out in '92 and felt their last good record was No. 4. It gets shit on by alot of people, but I love it, particularly "Atlanta."
PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Ray Charles could have seen this coming but it's still upsetting, I really liked alot of their work. I just hope the DeLeos don't do anything stupid like reunite "Talk Show" or something.

This is a surprise to me, not because they broke up, but I didn't know they were still together.
