Guest Kamui Report post Posted November 24, 2003 The insults are still sterotypical and stupid and the last one still makes no sense (uh, you know, we're both geeks and there's that thing called high school tommorow), but hey, at least they're grammatically correct now. -Duo
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 Yuna has a picture of males fucking in her signature? That's news to me. Actually, her sig would just be an example of a bishie (and an, uh, interesting quiz). You asked previously what you could do to look less like an anime fag. Not using pet words like "bishie" is a good start.

Having spent around $300 on MMORPGs (and that's pretty low if you look at the extreme people), it's EverQuest with chocobos and the smell of a console port (though not a terribly bad one.) Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 Yet another quote-clipped repliage... It appears as though Duo has won over the "14 year old girls with homosexual art fantasies" group over I'm 17, thanks. And my liking gays is no different than guys liking lesbos. Google it, yo. I'm not the only chick who likes yaoi. "Bum Rush" is probably a reference to FF VI. Sabin had a blitz called that. Ah, okay. Still 'Bum Rush' just sounds...odd in an FF. Wow, Yuna likes yaoi. Who the fuck cares? Why doesn't someone get on the case of all the assholes who pick on Yuna every five minutes? The two of them never appear to do anything wrong, and yet they seem to get more hate than assholes who actually DESERVE it. Danke, danke! To be fair, though, I was kind of insane when I first joined..slash this, and slash that. However, I haven't talked about it as much, and have stayed out of the wrestling threads. So, everyone picking on me is just something I've learned to ignore, or maybe even laugh at. Sakura made a thread about me, I believe, in either General Chat or No Holds Barred. Duo, my remark was simple banter...I have no problem with Yuna and I'm sure she knows that I don't have a problem with anyone on here, either. If I did, then I'd be spending way too much time on here, ja? the young girls who become pseudo fag hags because cartoon guys doing it are so appealing (which is like the female equivelant of guys thinking everything they know about sex they can learn by watching porn,) My girlfriend loves yaoi. Do I care? No. It's just another sexual fetish. Some people have them. Yay for them. Again, why should you care? That's what I'm wondering. Litmus test time: "Dragon Ball Z is the greatest anime ever made" Respond I'd tell them that I disagree, but hey, they can like whatever they want. I'd suggest that they check out some other specific animes that I feel has the best quality of DBZ (the fight scenes) and improves on the parts I personally feel are pretty bad (everything else), but if they disagree with me, that's just wonderful. I don't care. Did someone give you the answers to the test ahead of time? Yuna I'm looking in your direction... Huh? I haven't responded since you made that post. If Yuna's a female I'll have sex with her to show I don't have a problem with her. I would think that would prove my stance Yes, I'm a chick. But, really, ya don't have to go that far. This board does need more bishonen, in particular more Squall. I definetly suggest joining http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?us...squaresoft_icon I don't see how Yuna goes on and on about it. She has pictures in her threads, and she posts about it when the topic's relevant. OMG KILL HER NOW~!!! Again, to be fair, I used to talk about it a lot. But not anymore. Like you said, it's just pics in my sig. Yuna has a picture of males fucking in her signature? That's news to me. Actually, her sig would just be an example of a bishie (and an, uh, interesting quiz). My friend pointed the quiz out to me...I didn't actually look for it. I did see that thread you're talking about, though. I don't have a problem with anyone on here, either. If I did, then I'd be spending way too much time on here, ja? Yeah, I need to find something else to do today other than get in flame wars over whether or not I'm an anime elitist. If I don't get back my FFX-2 copy tonight I'll just go finish watching X. Mmmm.....X.... That's what I'm wondering. It's pretty simple WHY people care, actually- the majority of the people in this country are, at the very least, "closet homophobes". They don't outright BASH gays, but the disgust/hate is there. Again, yaoi girlfriend, I know these things. I definetly suggest joining http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?us...squaresoft_icon Ooooh, oooh, do you know where I can find Rinoa pictures too? That guy who linked to a Selphie pic instead was just plain MEAN. Not that I was tricked by the acutal link since it had "selphie" in the URL (dumb-ass), but still. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 I'm 17, thanks. And my liking gays is no different than guys liking lesbos. Google it, yo. I'm not the only chick who likes yaoi. I know ones who are 25. It doesn't make them less annoying when I can't discuss even the most innocent movies or books or TV shows without some crazy pseudo-pedophilic matchmaking. And to think that I was enjoying Harry Potter until that point. You are not nearly as bad as you are anymore, and like I said, when the subject isn't on yaoi you're a much better poster than you used to be. Again, people keep thinking I'm singling out posters on this board when I'm complaining about fandom as a whole. I wasn't flaming Yuna so much as the people Yuna used to act like. Guest Kamui Report post Posted November 24, 2003 But the problem I had was that you were generalizing way too much and acting like the MAJORITY of the anime fandom acts like that. From my experience, both online (Yes, I do frequent anime boards, like animeondvd.com) and in "real life" (clubs, conventions, etc.), most people don't. The sterotype was created because some people do act like that, sure, but most people who act very anti-anime-fans are people who just had bad experiences with a bad minority and then act like the various minorties are, in fact, majorities. They're really not. -Duo
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) I don't think there are many stereotypes too much worse about console RPG players than portrayed in FFTA. Back on the topic of FFX-2, I'm somewhat perplexed that it's a sponsor for WWE. The demographics seem almost completely separate. The sterotype was created because some people do act like that, sure, but most people who act very anti-anime-fans are people who just had bad experiences with a bad minority and then act like the various minorties are, in fact, majorities. They're really not. You mean like the sort portrayed in FFTA, furry freaks, really obsessive DBZ fans, etc? Edited November 24, 2003 by AndrewTS
Guest Kamui Report post Posted November 24, 2003 You mean like the sort portrayed in FFTA, furry freaks, really obsessive DBZ fans, etc? Yeah. JOTW is basically trying to act like they're the majority- they really aren't. You have many passionate anime fans, yes, but passion doesn't mean elitist. An anime elitist, to me (and this seems to be the generally accepted definition around the anime community), is someone who likes just one type of anime (or even one show) and defends it constantly while yelling about how everything else sucks. They're almost comparable to the really hardcore SMARTS of wrestling- if it's not EXACTLY how they like it, forget it, they'll never give it a chance and they'll spend 5 pages yelling about how sucky it is. I have no idea where Angelslayer got his definition from, but yeah. Most anime fans just love anime and Japanese culture in general. There's a difference. -Duo

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 Most anime fans just love anime and Japanese culture in general. There's a difference. I'm probably fall into the more casual category. I like some anime, but I don't buy it too often. Plus, I find many aspects of the Japanese culture, namely the sexism and gender discrimination, absolutely repugnant. In addition, I dislike how Asian cultures frown on individuality or "rocking the boat" in any situation. That's why Japan's economy is so heavily capitalist but there's been so little done to reform it and employ a decent welfare system. The US looks practically socialist compared to Japan. Of course, Japan hasn't suffered a Great Depression, so perhaps their system works well enough for them. If not, they'd have to reform it. However, Asian collectivism helps provide a welfare safety net, which may be much more effective than what we have. Ironically, socialism fits together perfectly with most Asian cultures' ideals, but Japan is so heavily competitive I doubt they'd respond well to a shift to heavy social welfare reforms. I'd throw in "humiliating game shows" as another pet peeve--but since reality TV became big, we're just as guilty. I'm aware we have a hell of a lot of problems ourselves, but I hold neither our culture nor Japan's to be an ideal standard like other people do.
Guest Kamui Report post Posted November 24, 2003 Oh and anybody who actually liked Gundam wing has deep deep issues. I liked parts of it. However, when I registered this username a long, long time ago, I hadn't seen nearly as much anime as I have by now, and it wouldn't even rank in my Top 20. Still, I found parts of the show to still hold up as generally enjoyable, and I still like Duo, hehe. Which reminds me- anyone know just how I would go about changing my username? I see people who change theirs a million times, and this is like the only forum I frequent where it's still "Duo" instead of "Voran Xias", my preferred internet handle. -Duo

However I have to make generalizations if we're going to talk about a certain culture, and I could go over some generalizations I have about the U.S. and they're not very kind either. However, I don't recall the U.S. having such a severe problem with women being groped in subways that government needed to step in and take action. We usually keep it confined to the workplace, I think. American women don't feel they absolutely must run the water in the sink while they tinkle. What I'm getting at is there are people who think Japan is perfect and wants the U.S. to become like it overnight. They also bitch and whine when a few nipples are removed from an anime for it's U.S. release, and are NEVER satisified with a dubbing job (at least having dub and sub on DVD releases quiets them usually). Those are the types that cause people to have negative impressions about American anime fans as a whole.
