Anglesault has to be the whitest guy I know.

I always thought it basically meant "I'm so much better than you you can't even see me, let alone touch me".

But I'm VERY white, and British too. So my interpretation of American Street Talk should be viewed as more or less worthless.

Should I be offended?

Depends if you see yourself as hip and cool, down with the kids and their lingo. I think being into hip-hop helps. Personally, I would never make a fuss if someone called me the whitest person they knew because it would be totally laughable for me to attempt to claim otherwise.

I don't particularly see the problem with being "white" ( I AM, after all). I don't understand why it would be derogatory

"You can't see me" is so simple yet so entertaining.

Here's a saying I have no idea the meaning of. "You can't have your cake and eat it too." Why the hell not?

It means at the same time. If you eat the cake, it's gone, you don't *have* it. But if you still have it, that means you haven't eaten it. You can't have both.

If you can't have your cake and eat it too then why bother buying the cake in the first place??

White people aren't cool. White Men Can't Jump. I personally have formulated a theory based on my own observations that a person of any other racial background can kick the crap out of an equal-sized white person in a fight. Basically, since white people aren't cool, anyone who isn't cool is white.

Then again, I think this rationalisation only works if the person is uncool in relation to a culture dominated by a different racial group. The rap/hip-hop culture is obviously traditionally dominated by black people, Eminem being the only notable exception, and has a language vastly different to "standard" English, whether American or British. So if you don't understand the language, you're white.

I hope that makes some kind of sense.

Tell that to the esteemed heavyweight champion Lennox Louis who got his ass handed to him by Klitschko before the ref stopped it.

Its like Any given sunday

where Willie Beeman said

" I gotz this Invisible juice in me and when I turn it on, im gone."

Cena is assentially saying no one can touch him.... He Gatz skills Dawg...

bleh

until someone big boots him

or slugs him

or throws him around like a rag doll

It's not a "language," it's a bastardization of American English.

Does "White" mean "WASP"-white, or like any-kind-of-white. Some Japanese are "white" skinned, but aren't "White". Some "white" people are more tanned than white. Where do places like Brazil and Spain fall?

... in other news, this is all very stupid.

Silence, Whitey

I was all set to laugh at this and applaud you for your comedic talents until I realized you weren't really joking, were you.

Anglesault once again proves how white he is by taking "white" literally.

It has nothing to do with color, it has to do with how painfully unhip you are.

By the way, I elect this thread to go to the Eternal Folder or whatever it's called...Hall of Shame?

How funny is Anglesault's original post?

What is up with Cena's whole "wave his hand in front of his face, make stupid facial expression, say You can't see me" bit?

What does it mean? Why is it being done? The person he says it to is always RIGHT THERE and can CLEARLY see him.

Does this waving his hand bit make him invisible? To everyone but me? Is it "thug language that means something that isn't even close to the actual phrase in meaning? (i.e. "word Life" "phat")

Am I just not "down" with the lingo?

Am I just not "down" with the lingo?...LOL...I can just see him making the quotation marks with his fingers like Kurt.

And he should care because.........?

It doesn't have anything to do with being hip, it has everything to do with common sense. I would like to believe that even an amoeba could figure out Cena couldn't literally mean McMahon could not see him, so why not Anglesault?

AS is a guy that constantly harps on the stupidity and lack of common sense exhibited by the WWE, it's ironic and humorous that he can't even see the reasoning behind an obvious metaphor, what's worse, he doesn't even know it's a metaphor. Idiocy in it's purest form.

Do you seriously not get the saying?

I'll assume you don't:

It's good to have a cake. It's also good to eat a cake.

At any one point in time, you cannot have both. You can't say, "Look at my wonderful cake" and say "This cake tastes delicious." You can't. It's like consuming anything edible. You can't have it out on display and enjoy eating it all together. It's one or the other.

If you still don't get it, I give the hell up.

What if you just eat HALF of the cake?

You still have a CAKE but ya still ate the cake as well...

The figure of speech obviously assumes you eat the whole thing. Thing of it as a friggin brownie then. Do you eat the brownie or show it off? Can't do both...

Lord...

Who shows off a brownie anyways?

Who is really impressed by a brownie?

A Ho-Ho? Maybe.

It's not a language per se or a bastardization, it's a dialect of English. A very linguistically rich dialect of English, in fact. There's a lot of interesting derivation going on in African American Vernacular.
