Who is smark-proof?

Recommended Posts

Someone mentioned Gorilla Monsoon. I liked him when paired up with Ventura and Heenan, but a lot of times Monsoon would contradict himself when trying to argue with them and that was hard to look past.

I looooooooved Monsoon. \!\Fuck all yall hataz/!/

Quite frankly, no one is smark proof. Even if a wrestler was perfect, there would still be some people saying that he was "too perfect". People have different tastes, people like and dislike different things, and every wrestler is different.

There are just a bunch of guys running around that seem to be from the same mold. Guys who do most of the same moves, aside from their two or so signature moves, same style, same talent, etc...

Just so many cookie-cutter guys running around.

I've seen everyone dissed from Kawada to Tsurta to Heenan to Jericho and to pretty much anyone. The most smark proof would have to be Ricky Steamboat. It's truly hard to hate the guy. Arn Anderson is up there too. Eddie Guerrero overall is also high. Owen Hart, Ravishing Rick Rude, Mariko Yoshida, Aja Kong and the Destroyer aren't commonly dissed either.

So I guess the WWF years of Vader were that bad?

in defense to Vader...his final days were filled of misuse... an aging Brick wall of a Hoss was slowing down.

they basically openly critizised in on air for his condition

Wrestlers can be similar (lord knows the OVW guys seem to mass produced) but they aren't the same. There are differences. Matt Morgan and Batista, for example. They both do the sit-out powerbomb, they both are big. I like Batista more than Morgan, though. Batista has a nice clothesline, the way he pops up from the spinebuster is cool, and the indifference he shows in his entrance rules. Little things. Smarks tend to pick on those the most.

Elaborate.

Matt Morgan = John Thirdreich

On that wave length:

Headhunter A = Headhunter B

Villano IV = Villano V

Awesome Kong = King Kong

When was the last time anyone bashed Funaki? By the way, what ever happened to him? He's disappeared of late from my view at least. Is he stuck on Velocity?

Bret Hart was smark-proof when he was in the WWF. When he went to WCW, every smark in existence jumped all over him.

Owen Hart is remembered as one of the best guys in the business; not just for in-ring work, but by how everyone would describe him when they were out of character. He was the exact opposite of Levesque. He got to where he was by being good, AND by being a good team player, and never stepping on anyone's toes.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Larry Zybisko. He was one of the true greats from NWA/WCW.

Flair used to have my respect, but he's lost a lot of it recently. He made himself Levesque's bitch, when Triple H should be his bitch.

Kurt Angle gets the love because he does it for the business, and because he works harder than almost anyone else. The guy risked permanent paralysis so all the fans who paid to see him and Lesnar go at it at Wrestlemania wouldn't be disappointed.

Mick Foley got a lot of love, because he was the only other guy who was so much into the business like Angle. Few people remember that HBK and Taker had the first Hell in a Cell match, and that Mick Foley lost his first HIAC match against Taker. But EVERYONE remembers when Mick Foley got thrown off the top of the Cell. We can all still hear JR: "Oh my GAWD! He's dead! He's gotta be dead!"

Benoit...I've never heard a smark express any kind of dislike towards Chris.

Jericho to a lesser extent. Chris gets a little criticism for his mic skills and for being sloppy from time to time.

I wasn't on the net all that much when he was alive, but I've never heard anything bad about Owen.

Steamboat too.

And Chyna...who doesn't love Chyna?

Steamboat is a minor smark deity, and that's propably because he was the perpetual face. Yes, I know that sounds markish, but here me out. We've always been accustommed to liking him, personally wise. Combine that with the fact that he was an amazing wrestler, we'll never bad mouth him.

I saw Raven on the list, but he always gets torn to shreds about not being a great worker, being a burnout, and having too highly an opinion of his own booking and selling abilities. Don't get me wrong, but I'm a huge Raven mark and I understand the opposition's opinions of him.

It also doesn't hurt that it's been proven over the years that he's just a universally nice guy on top of what you said, and thus hard to dislike

On the opposite side would be someone like Test, who's documented asshole behavior outside the ring makes it even easier for smarks to hate him.

What was so special about Zbyszko? Other than the fact that he was the master of the ten-minute stall, that is. Plus, the whole "Living Legend" fiasco just made him look like a dick.

Many wrestlers could be described as living legends: Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, and the list goes on and on.

As for Zbysko's wreslting style; that's just how it was done back then. Watch any of Hogan's or Flair's matches from the late 70's/early 80's. They all did it that way back then.

I've heard Zyb...Zyb...ah fuck it. I've heard Larry bashed A LOT, for various different reasons. His attempting to sue Jericho for the Living Legend name was one, and also because he supposedly got the title in the AWA by sleeping with the boss's daughter (or something along those lines).

I dunno if Vern Gagne had a daughter, but if she existed and looked anything like Vern and/or Greg, I'd stay away

I agree with Papacita. From my experience, Zbyszko has been bashed more than he has been praised. Most of the people I know either hate Larry, or haven't heard of him.

DK took too many suicidal dives to the outside and scrambled his brain?

For whatever reason, I liked Syxx when he was in WCW. Add the Flair vs Syxx matches to next Flair DVD!!!
