nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 In a perfect world, the B's could keep Jillson and make it Gill, Samuelsson and the pick for Gonchar. But I don't think many teams want a 6'7" player that plays like he's 5'7" and wearing a skirt. And I'm not too high on Jillson; at this point, he's the #7 defenseman, and once Moran gets healthy enough to play Jillson will drop even further. A player can only show potential for so long before it starts to look like it'll never pan out, and he's been showing potential for 2 or 3 years now. Morrison, who's a true rookie, gets playing time over Jillson.
the max 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 Even so, you're giving up a Gonchar jnr. in Jillson, a good two-way player in Samuelsson and a 1st rounder for a guy that you'll have for a few months (since we both know that the B's aren't going to spend money on Gonchar). Gill/Samuelsson/2nd rounder would work just as well for Washington, as they get size on the blueline, a good two-way player, and a potential second or third line player in the draft. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 If I was Quenneville, I'd hold off on taking a job in New York. Hell, if I was Renney I'd have held off on taking the job. It's a no-win situation in New York, and there will undoubtedly be better jobs for the taking once the season ends. Why take a job that you know that you're destined to fail? The money just isn't worth it. And how 'classy' is Slats? Basically blaming the fans for the Rangers being so piss poor, by saying that the "Fire Sather" were distracting and caused the team to make more mistakes. Why take any blame for bad managment when you can blame the fans for caring enough to boo and chant? Sather went from genius to idiot in about half-a-decade. The Ranger effect does that to you If you're a Ranger, you lose skills, get injured or don't play up to potential. Once you're on almost any other team, you gain skills, stay healthy and exceed potential. (How scary would Richter and Leetch have been on other teams?) treble 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 And, in Hell Freezes Over news, the Penguins actually win a game, even though they had to go to OT to do it. Not a good start to the Rick Bowness era in Phoenix.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 And, in Hell Freezes Over news, the Penguins actually win a game, even though they had to go to OT to do it. Are this year's Penguins in the running for worst team ever, or have teams like the Jets and Senators in their worse years already set unattainable lows? Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 Are this year's Penguins in the running for worst team ever, or have teams like the Jets and Senators in their worse years already set unattainable lows? Washington Captials: 21PTS - 1974-75 Washington Captials: 8W - 1974-75 I'd say it's safe to say, Pittsburgh isn't on track to being the worst ever.

Not a good start to the Rick Bowness era in Phoenix. Whenever the words "Rick Bowness era" are used, you can rest assured it will have a bad start, bad middle, and bad finish. I think Bowness might have pictures of Gretz somewhere.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 I'm pretty sure that Bowness is just the interim coach, and won't be retained after this season ends ... I've heard that Marty McSorley is one of the frontrunners to be the head coach next season (if there is a next season). I've always been a big fan of Marty, and was one of the few that still defended him after all that Brashear-bullshit, so I'd like to see him get a chance to coach the Coyotes. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 For those who can get it, watch tonight's Philadelphia/Ottawa game. It should go a very long way toward determining whether Philly has what it takes to last in the playoffs this year. The Flyers have only one victory over a team which is currently playoff-bound in the last six weeks and they got thrashed by the Senators in their only other meeting this year. Following up, the Flyers are only 11-11-4-3 against playoff teams this season -- 5-9-3-3 in their last 20 -- and 13 of their last 18 games are against current playoff teams. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 Sens/Flyers tie at 1. Sounded like a pretty intense game. Yeah, it was that. Sens should've won easily, but Burke had an awesome night. I think he stopped 40 shots. Havlat may get suspended for Saturday's game against the Sabres after a vicious elbow. Leafs lose to Tampa. Tampa has 80 points and looks to be gaining confidence. Tampa is looking VERY strong right now. No more jokes about wanting to finishing 6th if the top 2 wasn't possible.

Yeah when can you stop calling a team an expansion team, by the way? Because technically, everyone post-Original Six is an expansion team. But the Flyers, Pens, Stars, and Islanders are all well established as teams, so the expansion moniker doesn't really belong anymore.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 Russ Conway (local writer, HHOF member, the one that broke the story about Eagleson being the piece of shit that he is) still calls the teams that were around before the last few expanions "The Original 26" ... so, using that mentality, only the teams that came after that would be expansion teams. And I think that honestly, a team has a 3-5 year window to be viewed as an expansion team. After that they'd have their own draft picks and free agent signings as the bulk of their lineup, rather than castoffs picked up in the expansion draft. Just my theory.
