The OAO NHL 2003-2004 Season Thread

Recommended Posts

Kidd's not that bad, but he's basically been a career backup for a reason: he doesn't play that well against good teams. Keep him as a #2, and only play him against the Pittsburgh's or Chicago's or Columbus' of the league, and he's fine.

BTW, I've got to say that my Bruins have looked as good these last two games as they've looked all year. After withstanding the initial ten-minute onslaught against the Wings, they played well on Wednesday, and they looked pretty good last night against the Penguins. Tomorrow's game against Detroit should be good.

MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Senators/Leafs game is blacked out on EVERY CHANNEL in Ottawa. I can't get it on Sportsnet OR Centre Ice.

Not that it's much of a contest...4-0 Senators 7 minutes in.

It was on the New RO here. Not that I was home to watch it, thank God.

Yeah, that's what I found out after the fact. I thought Sportsnet was the only channel carrying it, and when I saw it was blacked out there, AND not being carried on Centre Ice, I was pissed.

Then I just turned on Dave and Gord on the radio, and I was calm.

I had to keep up with it on ESPN2's bottomline. Apparently the Rangers v. Hurricanes is more intriguing than Ottawa v. Toronto. ;)

Looking at it now, Vancouver doesn't have the goaltending to make it in the playoffs, as has been proven in the last two years. Colorado has a thin defense, but is capable of busting out a huge trade to change that. Detroit has the most depth, but are small up front with Zetterberg and Datsyuk being their big point guys.

Of those three teams, Detroit would make the finals, where Ottawa's speed and depth up front would be a big factor. Also, Hasek hasn't been the same this year, and I don't think that they trust CuJo in net. Ottawa has faith in Lalime, so they have that advantage.

I think Ottawa/Detroit is the best matchup, and can go 6 or 7 good, thrilling games, which is what the sport needs the most right now.

At this point, I think the Cup winner will come out of the East. Four of the five strongest teams in the league right now are in the East (Flyers, Leafs, Senators, Devils, with Detroit being the fifth). Whoever comes out of the East is going to be playing some damn good hockey.

Sadly, due to the ridiculous "division winners get the top 3 seeds" rule, one of those four teams will be eliminated in the first round, as one will be a four seed and another will be a five seed.

Well, the 3 Phoenix Coyotes fans have history on their team.

Brian Boucher got his 5th straight shutout, and hasn't allowed a goal in over 330 minutes now, both NHL records.

I didn't see it written anywhere in here, but just to reaffirm that, yes, we are in the midst of an NHL season, Mario Lemieux is out for the year.

We all took that as a given.

Boston just beat Detroit again in a really good game.

Oh yeah. Shame on me for insulting everyone's intelligence.

Good to see the Bruins do well, as an Eastern team ranked 4th to 8th. They all have more points than the Thrashers, I believe.

It was 5 assists and a goal. And the victims were the Penguins, so maybe there should be an asterisk next to that.

Man, was that Leafs/Devils game tonight brutal. Hardly kept my attention and I kept flicking over to the football game.

I fear for the future of the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.

Anyhow, I'm starting to think the prospect of Canada going 6 for 6 in April is possible, and would be a great possibility.

yep.

my bad on the type-o, i wasn't really paying attention as I was talking to a friend about the score.

Losing to the Penguins is humiltating. Hell not scoring 3 goals is humiltating against the Penguins.

Brian Gionta (Scott Niedermayer, Jay Pandolfo)

Flames took out Florida 4-2. I really liked the effort I saw from them tonight, as they took the game to the Panthers for the entire 2nd and 3rd periods. And, of course, the higlight of my day...

I hope this makes him a #1.

I'm getting tired of Sean Burke, and knowing that he makes 5.5 million dollars a year is sickening.

Boucher did awesome tonight. That save in OT when the the guy shot at point blank was a Hell of a save. Then the save from the Thrasher's goalie only like 15 seconds later was a good one too.

Also not to mention the brutal game that Rangers and Lightning had tonight. Never seen so much hate between two teams.

Things that make me smile:

John Buccigross on the pre-game show before Pens @ Flyers:

"Jeremy Roenick, Keith Primeau, John LeClair, Mark Recchi and the Philadelphia Flyers take on...Dick Tarnstrom and the Penguins...next"

I was going to start a new thread for this, but there aren't many hockey fans on this board, and most of the fans that are here might be too young to remember his playing days, so I'm just asking here ... Was Cam Neely considered a dirty player? He's beloved in Boston, so we always overlooked his questionable play, but after watching the video montage of his career highlights tonight, it was kind of hard to ignore.

He had no issues with punching people while still wearing his gloves (and while the play was still going on). He would continue to throw punches when his opponent was already down and turtling. Hell, he dragged Lemieux (who was in full on turtle mode) and rammed him face first into the boards.

So, can anyone answer if Neely was considered dirty?
