Ive only ever found 2 people who ever done a good Black Russian, one in Greece and and at my local, but when its done right, its beeeeeaaaauuuutttttiiiifffffuuuullll

A black russian is Coke, Tia Maria and Vodka, and it has to be spot on, otherwise it is too sweet or too bitter.

Huh?

 

In all my years, every variant I've ever heard is vodka and a creme liquer. I can't say that I'm familiar with Tia Maria, but I know that Coke never figured into the equation.

 

Having said that, I can see such a concoction being very delicious.

 

As traditional Black Russians vs. White Russians go, maybe it's the bigot in me (kidding), but I prefer the white ones. The addition of cream really tastes better, to me.

 

What I'd really like to try is a Siberian -- a White Russian with ice cream in place of the standard cream. Yum!

I made one of those a couple of weeks ago...Pretty gross.

To my understanding, a black russian is vodka + Kaluha and to make it a white russian you just add milk/cream

 

I have heard of the vodka/coke/kaluha concoction but it was not called a black russian.
