Top 500 Heavy Metal Songs of All-Time

I so can't see that ending well.

"The first-ever international metal debates were cut short today, as the Norweigan delegates hauled out axes and began attacking everyone, mincing them into small pieces before starting to devour the shredded bits of bone and flesh.

When asked why, their only response was "THAT'S FUCKING METAL~!"

HAHAHHA...

"And in other news, the second day of the conference was cancelled due to both the Swedish and Norwegian delegates not wanting to be in the same room with each other. A heated debate over whether Sentenced was better when it was death or doom turned ugly when the topic switched to a near century old border dispute."

"And yet more chaos occurred at the International Metal Summit, as debates between American thrash and death enthusiasts and European thrash and death enthusiasts turned ugly. The final body count is 72, with all but three of the dead being European.

When interviewed, one American thrash and death enthusiast had this to say. 'HEAVY FUCKIN' METAL!!! KEEP IT BR00TUL!!!!!!!!' Our thoughts go out to the families of those European pussies that couldn't handle the Slayer pit."

The term "heavy metal" is said to originate from a review of a Jimi Hendrix concert in

which it was described as sounding "like heavy metal being dropped from the sky."

The following is a good sentence from the hard rock section of allmusic.com's metal related list:

"With some bands, it can be difficult to tell where the dividing line between hard rock and heavy metal falls, but the basic distinction is that ever since Black Sabbath, metal tends to be darker and more menacing, while hard rock (for the most part) has remained exuberant, chest-thumping party music."

I've heard the heavy metal/Steppenwolf lyric too. The list of reccommended metal songs/bands/albums totally contradicts what we've been saying here. More reason for a metal convention.

More reason for a metal convention.

TSM Metal Convention huh? Allright, who would come...

Myself

Agent

NM

Steviekick

CoreyLaz

Maniac

That's typically who I think of as "TSM's metal fans"

Did I miss anyone?

I'll give it a whirl. I've had my fair share of prancing in forests wielding axes and wearing corpse paint.

I was also drinking buddies with Guns n Roses when they were touring here in Australia.

Man, I'd be the head of that convention. I am the tiebreaker and the breaker of wills at TSM.

The worst part is, even with a convention of just 8 or 9 of us, we'd STILL never reach an agreement on anything, because I know that guys like Agent, NM and Thumbtack like totally different styles of metal then people like myself, and possibly Laz and Redbaron. I'm pretty sure you guys are both into at least some powery-type stuff, (I'm pretty sure you both like Maiden, but I don't know how far that goes) but I dunno all your favourite bands off the top of my head (Well, maybe Laz's).

Though I do agree that Agent would have to be the head, on account of he's the only person who I've ever seen admit that while he doesn't like Maiden, even he agrees that they're very fucking talented.

And if not for him, I would have never head "Scream of the Butterfly".

I love you, man.

I run across the board, for the most part.

The gaps of stuff I don't listen to would more than likely be filled by Agent and CoreyLaz

I'm a metal fan but no one values my opinion.

I went to my cousin's wedding in a Nile shirt if that means anything.

According to others on the music board, we already have.

Apparantly, death metal is all anyone ever talks about here....

Bah...They're just jealous of the intelligent commentary we provide.

It's ok. Your redeemed by showing your love of Nile at the perfect time.

The origin of the term "heavy metal" actually comes from a review of Sabbath's first album, which said (I'm paraphrasing here) "the music sounds as if somebody took a bunch of heavy metal pots and pans and threw them down a flight of stairs while recording it." Funny how metal was once shunned, and now it's praised by millions the world over.

And at the TSM Metal Summit, me and Agent should lead, since he represents the more brutal music, while I represent the more melodic music.

http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_music :

" The origin of the term heavy metal is uncertain. According to one version, it was coined by a critic for Rolling Stone Magazine, who in 1967 said that the music of Jimi Hendrix was "like heavy metal falling from the sky". Others references have been the words "heavy metal thunder" in the 1968 Steppenwolf song "Born to be Wild", or the William S. Burroughs story "The Heavy Metal Kid". The word "heavy" (meaning serious or profound) had entered beatnik/counterculture slang some time earlier, and references to "heavy music" -- typically slower, more amplified variations of standard pop fare -- were already common; indeed, Iron Butterfly's 1968 debut album was entitled Heavy. The fact that Led Zeppelin (whose moniker came partly in reference to Keith Moon's jest that they would "go over like a lead balloon) incorporated a heavy metal into its name may have sealed the usage of the term."

The problem being, of course, that none of the above mentioned bands are, have been, or will ever be metal, so the origin of the term for them is null and void.

I stand by my Black Sabbath review paraphrase.

I never said anything that contained commentary with correct spelling
