Man Who Played Santa Sentenced for Murder

 

 

WARREN, Mich. (AP) - A man who often played Santa Claus in the city's Thanksgiving parade was sentenced Tuesday to 22{ to 40 years in prison for killing his daughter, prosecutors said.

 

Frederick Kaercher, 66, was convicted last week of second-degree murder for killing his daughter in an argument that broke out while the two were putting up Christmas decorations in their home last year.

 

During the argument, Kaercher accused his daughter of stealing some personal items and stabbed her in the neck, authorities said.

 

Kaercher's attorneys, citing a history of mental illness, argued he was insane.
