MrRant 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 By Nellie Andreeva LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - ABC has given the green light to "Doing It," a drama pilot based on British author Melvin Burgess' controversial young-adult novel about the sexual antics of three 16-year-old boys. The coming-of-age drama, described as "My So-Called Life" meets "American Pie," will be set in Seattle. Newcomers Sean Farris, Chris Lowell and Jon Foster have been cast as the three leads. It is targeted for fall 2004. "It looks at three boys at the time of their life when one minute they can just be the biggest insensitive a--holes hounding girls for sex and the next minute they can be incredibly sensitive and wonderfully soulful," said producer Stu Bloomberg, who will produce. "You'll get to see these very personal, first-person moments when they speak to the camera and say things they would never say to anyone else." After it caused a stir in the United Kingdom for its sexual frankness when it came out earlier this year, "Doing It" is scheduled to be published in the United States by Henry Holt & Co. on June 1. In fact, it was Bloomberg's stepdaughter, an editor at Henry Holt, who brought the book to the attention of the former ABC entertainment president. Meanwhile, ABC has given a script commitment to "The Parent Trap," based on the feature renditions of Erich Kastner's classic novel "Lottie and Lisa" about divorced parents raising identical twin girls. Don Beck (ABC's "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter") will write the project. "We are refocusing the story so it is more from the perspective of two very different parents, but the twins will obviously have a prominent position," said Brian Robbins, one of the executive producers. If the project goes forward, the producers are planning to launch a nationwide search for identical twins to play the roles. In the 1961 and 1998 Disney movies, Hayley Mills (news) and Lindsay Lohan (news), respectively, played both sisters. Reuters/Hollywood Reporte
