Ok lets review my favorite teams in the Sports World

MLB - Mets (86 Series)

NBA - Celtics (86 Finals)

NHL - Rangers (93-94 Stanley Cup Champs)

NFL - Giants (Super Bowl 25 Champs)

NCAA Football - Notre Dame (1988 National Champs, although I still say they got screwed in 1993)

NCAA Basketball - St. Johns Red Storm (Final Four was the closest they ever came to winning)

Is anyone else in as dire need of new teams as myself? The only thing any of these teams won was almost 10 freaking years ago.

Well, I like the Leafs (1967 Stanley Cup champions, haven't been to the finals since then), the Blue Jays (haven't been to the playoffs since 1993 World Series), and the Expos (made the playoffs once, in 1981, 2 years before I was born). Someone better win something soon.

With the exception of the Celtics and Notre Dame (though they have that nationwide fanbase), all your teams lie within the same geography, so really your team selection makes sense

Maybe you should come to grips with the fact NYC just blows <g>

NYC does not such my friend its actually quite an interesting place to live. Where else can you have terrorist attacks, massive blackouts and a fatal ferry crash in a 2 year span?

Why does everyone always have to hate on SI?? Is it because of the whole largest dump in the world thing??

Seattle Sonics - 78-79 season NBA Champions. and the last Finals appearance was in the 90's.

Seattle Mariners - GRRR.

Seattle Seahawks - I remember them getting to the AFC Championship game back in the 80's when they had Steve Largent but that year escapes me.

1984 AFC championship - The Seahawks owned the Raiders twice in the regular season but the Raiders would have the last laugh here and would then go on to crush the league-record scoring Redskins in the SB

And the sad part is that no one outside of LA/Oakland and Seattle knew about the hatred between the teams.

Oakland vs. Denver always got all the pub.

Oakland vs. Denver always got all the pub.

And it still does

Seattle (no longer applicable) and San Diego have essentially been odd men out from the AFC West. It's all about the triangle between Oakland-Denver-KC, which is my next favorite rivalry in the NFL after the Black'n'Blue division

Oh yeah, my sports affiliations, mix of good and bad

NFL: Vikings (0-4 Superbowl all-time and 0-2 NFC championships in last five years)

MLB: Reds (greatest upset ever in '90) and Red Sox (do we need to go there?)

College: Michigan (football national champs '97, Final Four champs '89, but Fab Five era shrouded in controversy) and Kansas State (finally got over the hump in football and won the conference)

NHL(don't really pay attention to this as much as the above three): Devils (3 cups in last 8 years) and Blackhawks (no cups in 40+)

EDIT:

Green Bay vs Chicago rules... all that tradition, although it's been a letdown since the Packers has kicked Bears's asses for a long while now.

It's the oldest, but in recent years, the rivalry has gone far downhill with the Bears dropping off the map. Hell, even in '01 when the Bears went 13-3 and made the playoffs, they still got owned twice in the regular season by Green Bay.

The Black'n'Blue's premier rivalry now is Minnesota-GB, by far

I agree. Minnesota and Green Bay is the top two teams in that division... now only if they would win their other games...

Well, my teams used to be so bad that people wondered why the hell I was a fan:

NFL: New England Patriots

NBA: Dallas Mavericks

MLB: Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles (ok, still bad)

College: Florida St football, Florida St and Ohio St basketball, Florida St baseball

Hockey: The Mighty Ducks (we need Gordon Bombay)

The point is you have to stick with your teams cause when they win, it is f'n sweet.

NHL - Boston Bruins - 31 years and counting, plus one of the worst owners in sports.

NFL - New England Patriots - up until 2 years ago they had never won a damn thing ... but then there was that little upset in the Super Bowl. So, they're a positive.

college football - Colorado State Rams - little fish in a big pond, will never even get a sniff at a BCS game.

I don't really care about the other sports that much, but living in Boston means that I have to root for the Sox and Celts by default - one team hasn't won in decades, the other hasn't looked good in 15 years.

Being born in and raised near Oakland, I can tell you we hate all the teams in the West equally. At some point or another, each team has beaten us bad enough to piss us off.

Seattle was probably the least hated but the hatred for guys from Largent to Ricky Watters was always there.

San Diego was hated deeply because of the awesomeness of the the Air Coryell teams. We got the best of them to go to Superbowl 15, but the rivalry was there. When the Raiders moved to LA it got worse because up until last year, there seemed to be more Raiders fans than Chargers fans at the games played in San Diego, and it usually was the worst of the worst fans.

The Kansas City rivalry goes back to the 60's and the hatred was deep back then. In 1970, a purposeful late hit on Len Dawson by Ben Davidson led to a 5 minute brawl that led to the ejection of a KC player. Marcus Allen signing with KC after Al Davis blackballed him came at a time when KC was simply dominating the Raiders year after year. It wasn't until Gruden came in and the Raiders beat KC on the last day of the season to eliminate them from a sure playoff berth that the Raiders beat them for the first time in years.

Denver is probably the most hated because John Elway was so good. However, the Raiders are the only team with a winnning record against Elway. The Mike Shanahan firing led him on a mission to beat the Raiders, and he has been quite successful doing so pretty much every year except for last year, when the Raiders swept them for the first time in years on their way to the Superbowl.
