Batman: The Animated Series DVDs

Recommended Posts

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen

Two new DVDs announced by WB. Instead of the next four eps in order, or (Heaven forbid) teh Boxset we get these:

Batman The Animated Series: The Penguin/Poison Ivy

Batman The Animated Series: The Joker/Fire And Ice

Reissues of the the VHS movies! Worst of all, if you've bought them all so far you'll be double dipping on the episode Christmas With the Joker if you buy the latter as well.

I sent WB.com an e-mail and every other fan of this and S:TAS should write as well. This show deserves a box-set.

Why don't they just give it up and release season sets. That's the only way I'm buying Batman TAS.

You can get the whole series from Columbia House, but it's pricey.

I'm reasonably sure that if we don't see them before then, they will be sold as tie-ins to Batman: Intimidation Game.

What's the URL for the website for Columbia House Tv Shows on DVD or whatever? They have 60 eps out do far with animated menus. I might be interested in that.

EDIT:

ATTENTION ANIMATED BATMAN FANS: COLUMBIA HOUSE IS A *GREAT* DEAL.

They're releasing the whole series on DVD, 6 eps a volume, in original airdate order (except with two-parters, they're put together). The packageing is great, the transfer is good, and the releases come every few weeks. They are more expensive, but I'm going to have the entire run of B:TAS and TNBA LONG before WB decides to put out the first set.

You MUST call to order the DVDs though, the website doesn't list them. The number is: 1-800-692-1000. Ask for Batman: The Animated Series on DVD.

They are propably holding off on the boxed set because there is a huge kid market for individual episodes. If they make them inexpensive (10-15), parents are likely to keep buying them for their kids. Eventually they will have the season sets, but for now they seem to be comfortable cashing out as quick as possible.

Um, didn't WB have a press conference a couple of months ago saying that Season Sets were in line for Batman AND Superman? There was even a thread about it here..

That was near a year ago and we've heard NOTHING about it since then. Plus, the TV releases to the middle of next year have already been announced and B:TAS was not amongst them. My attitude is simple: I'll support the company that is offering the fans what they want. If enough people sign up, they'll offer the next 49 episodes on DVD in addition to the first 60 they already have available, and the fans will have what they wanted: the complete run of Batman: the Animated Series in DVD quality.

I think the press conference was held this past summer, actually.

Which honestly doesn't change the fact that the DVD set isn't coming out till at least the second half of 2004. Besides, it wasn't a conference to announce B:TAS DVDs, it was a comics convention at the booth for MotB IIRC. And the guy sounded like he was merely trying to placate the fans by saying "there was a strong possibility" and "they're looking into it." Nowhere does he directly confirm them.

You keep waiting for the box sets, vivi. I'm enjoying Heart of Ice and Feat of Clay at the moment, with 6 more eps coming in two weeks.

I assume this is the one with the yellow and black logo,, not the one with just a black logo on his chest that looked more cartooney

Correct.

The first four seasons of Batman: The Animated Series were on FOX and sport the look to which you refer. In 1997, the series moved over to Kids WB and was revamped. Most of the changes weren't bad; ironically I think the only two character designs to end up worse were Batman and The Joker.

Anyone remember watching the Clayface two-parter back in the day? (Feat of Clay) Those two episodes still hold up PERFECTLY, and I love the fact that this is just the first of many of the Rogue's Gallery origins that were done better here than in the comics. Turning the Matt Hagen/Clayface character into an avatar for vanity was a masterstroke by Marv Wolfman.

I'm perfectly content waiting, even if it never comes out. I like the show, but I don't lose sleep over the fact that I can't own it all at once, at this very moment.

I remember watching that one the first time it aired in 1992 and then watching it again when it was reaired in early 1993. Good stuff, although being so young at the time, I didn't fully appreciate it. I've got a couple tapes of B:TAS around here and I believe at least one part is on one of them. It's funny (I guess) that the only B:TAS episode that I had a vivid memory of from way back when was the panned Penguin episode I've Got Batman in My Basement, if for no other reason than Fox contasntly aired it.

As for the conference about full season sets of the series coming to DVD, it took place in July of this year, a day or two before the third volume of the series was released on DVD. I remember because I was psyched to get it and heard the morning of its release date that the season sets were almost a sure thing.
