Because not everybody wants to download ROMs. I don't mind ROMs, but I've gotten rid of most of my ROMs as it is. I prefer to buy the carts for collecting and playing. You make it sound like its hours of work Step1: Download rom Step2: Run emulator and game Step3: Configure controls (you can buy USB adapters for almost every mainstream console controller) Step4: If game sounds or looks funny, make a modification in the video/sound options If we are talking about a Megadrive or Super Nintendo game with broadband that would take less then ten minutes. Sure you need to know about your emulator but really it doesnt take a genius to work these things out. If it wasnt for emulation there would a lot of games that I would have never have had the pleasure of playing and actually buying in the long run. Games such as super robot wars, captain tsubasa, Metal slug and so forth. Also I use them to see if the game is actually worth buying later (like SNK vs Capcom chaos, by downloading the rom I made the decision to pre-order the Japanese PS2 port as there are no arcades near me that supply the game.) Through neo-geo emulation about five of my friends have started to support SNKP by buying console ports and even NGPC's. Fair enough, I do have some roms which I do not own legally but if you could tell me where I could own a copy of "guwange" without taking a flight to Japan and hunting it down in every arcade please tell me. Hehehe--no, we aren't talking about that. Also, I've admitted to playing Rockman and Forte on an emulator (long before it was announced for GBA), so I think you should know better than to think I'm opposed to emulating import games. I never had to calibrate my PC controller to get it to work right either. I got one of those PC controllers that doesn't require calibration and can be plugged in and used immediately. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2003 I have thousands of old school games in ROM form, both on my PC and my Dreamcast. For some reason though, I feel the need to buy the actual carts. It's the same for PSX and DC games- I had a ton of burned ones, but I'd rather own the actual games. It's more fun to play the real thing and more rewarding to be able to look at my massive collection. Anyway, I just rented my first game in a long time last night, so I figured I could talk about that in this thread as well. I got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for GameCube based on the fact that I loved the demo on the Mario Kart bonus disc. It's a great game so far. The graphics are gorgeous and the cartoon derived cutscenes make it feel like you're actually playing the TV show. 2D side scrolling beat-em-up games were probably my favorite genre back in the SNES days, and maybe of all time. When they're done right (as many on the SNES were) they are incredibly fun, although at times mindless. TMNT for GC is a perfect 3D adaptation of the genre, and although nothing can touch TMNT II: The Arcade Game for NES as the best game in this genre, the new game is a great breath of fresh air in the current gaming world and it's very difficult to put down. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is addicting, and multiplayer is probably even better. I'm sure I'll be able to easily beat the game at least with one character by the time I have to return it, but seeing as how you can play through the game with all 4 turtles (and I here casey Jones and Splinter are unlockable) there should be a ton of replay value. Does anyone know if playing with different characters causes the story to be any different? Honestly, this is a title I can see myself playing through over and over again. I heard it sucks, but I like car combat games, LOVE WWE games, and hell, it was only $5 at Circuit City (it'll be marked at $19.99, but get a price check). I haven't played it yet, but I'm about to. The instruction manual is fucking hilarious. Here are a couple quotes from the character/vehicle descriptions: RVD- "When it comes to taking turbo powered leaps in his 4-wheel ATV, no one gets as high as Rob Van Dam." Also, most of the games I really wanted were at least $10, and I decided that since I only had $170 remaining ($100 of which pays for wrestling) I would only spend around $20 rather than the previously planned $50. I still picked up the following 9 games for $23.56 (mostly sports and fighting): WWF Royal Rumble (Genesis) Wolverine: Adamantium Rage (Genesis) Mortal Kombat (Genesis- with box) Street Fighter II: Championship Edition (Genesis) TMNT: Tournament Fighters (Genesis) College Slam (Genesis) World Series Baseball '95 (Genesis- with box) NBA Live '98 (PlayStation) Madden 64 (Nintendo 64) I have very few Genesis games, so I'm trying to build up a collection. I have MK already for SNES, but the Genesis version is supposedly superior. The Live and Madden games I got are my favorite incarnations for those systems, repsectively. I picked up the TMNT and Wolverine games because I have played and enjoyed both, and I needed some superhero/comic/cartoon games. You also can't go wrong with Street Fighter. I didn't know anything about it, never heard of it, BUT it was made from Black isles, my fav. pc game developer. Basically, Take the Fallout engine, , place it in the 1600's Barcelona, and twist and tweak history to your ling, plus a great magic system, and trait and perk system, and you have one hell of a game. The combat engine has evovled from Fallout too, no waiting, all realtime. You all should buy this game...now...I'm serious....go...why you still reading? I didn't buy it but I got a Gameboy SP for Christmas( I specifically asked for it during my English class lectures. Oh and I got a tape recorder:)) and din't get any game I asked for. Nope, instead my parents picked me up this game called Blackthorne, which is an old game from the snes. I was dissapointed untill I started playing. Really fun, mindless action game, which had some rpg-lite elements(an inventory, talking to npcs). It's probably less than 20 bucks, so I recomend this game to pass some time. DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2003 Got 4 cheap, cheap, cheap PS2 games to trade in at EB Games (Fantavision, State of Emergency, Pryzm, Gungriffon Blaze) for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. I found Light Crusader for the Genesis for only $2.99 (it's a quite underrated Treasure game) at Gamestop. I'm also expecting Project Gotham Racing 2 that I won in a contest.
