OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 This week's edition of Smackdown did a 3.4 broadcast rating, with a six share, according to Nielsen Media Research. That is down from last week's 3.6. The highest segment of the show was the 8:45 quarter hour, which did a 3.7. 1wrestling.com

Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 Vince McMahon dancing with The Cat isn't bound to save pro-wrestling. Notice how Vince comes back after four weeks, and the ratings sink.
OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 I taped the show but haven't watched it yet. Please tell me that the Vince McMahon/Cat nonsense didn't come on at 8:45 and get the highest rating.

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted December 20, 2003 Wasn't Brock/Moore past 9:30? I didn't watch, but I think thats how late it would be by spoilers, unless I'm remembering long. Cat/McMahon was around the 8:50-9:00 frame so.....it was in the 8:45-9:00 zone.

Guest NewYorkFox Report post Posted December 20, 2003 Vince McMahon dancing with The Cat isn't bound to save pro-wrestling. Notice how Vince comes back after four weeks, and the ratings sink. If they'd advertised Vince's return, the ratings probably would have been higher. Like it or not, the guy's a draw, and possibly the best character in WWE right now. Don't kid yourself. The Vince-family bullshit has killed, or at least not allowed the ratings to grow, for months. No one cares about Vince McMahon. It's not 1999. Stone Cold can't beat him up. He's old. He's boring. Let them wrestle.

Hell, it was probably the high point of the night for a lot of fans. McMahon overkill might be bad for the product, but in small doses and outside of the ring, McMahon is a hit. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 Buyrates are low but the fans give a fuck about him. Ok. So the fans pop for him, I understand and will give you that. The fans also pop for the opening match jobbers because the show is starting. The fans pop for Jim Ross for some reason. The fans pop for Booker T's entrance. The fans pop for etc... Just because the fans give a reaction doesn't mean it should be SHOVED DOWN OUR THROATS or portrayed in MEANINGLESS SEGMENTS. If Vince gets pops, then use him as Vince, RUTHLESS OWNER, in small doses. Oh wait, that's been done. Instead we get VINCE MEETS SHANE, VINCE RECRUITS KANE, VINCE FIGHTS ONE LEGGED BOY, VINCE UNMASKS Mr. AMERICA, VINCE FIGHTS HIS DAUGHTER, VINCE PRAYS TO GOD WITH PREACHER, VINCE FUCKS SABLE, VINCE DANCES WITH CAT, VINCE DOES THAT... Vince sucks. Get the fuck off TV, your gimmick is shot to hell. Stop trying to be funny or imposing.

You can't deny that Vince gets a better reaction than half the roster. You can't deny that heel Vince is oone of the most over and identifyable gimmicks on the roster. He's probably the biggest name on Smackdown at the moment, the only guy who fans of any point in the last 10 years recognises. People may not buy a PPV for him, but they sure as hell don't turn off Smackdown when he gets in the ring for a promo.
