Favorite dropped storylines of 2003

Recommended Posts

What are your most memorable storyline abortions from 2003?

I'll start it off with an excerpt from my TV report of the very first segment of the very first RAW of the year:

Match #1

No Disqualification Handicap Match

The Dudley Boys vs. 3 Minute Warning, Rico, & Batista

The Dudleys' entrance takes the place of the opening RAW pyro. We find out that tonight, Scott Steiner and Triple H will take part in a Pose Down Challenge. What's that sound I now hear? Ah yes, it's television remotes being clicked over to Joe Millionaire. Bischoff comes out and mandates that some attitude changes will take place. Recap is shown of The Dudleys helping J.R. & Lawler beat Storm and Regal. It should be noted that J.R. is now 2-0 in his wrestling career. This will be the "Year of Eric Bischoff" supposedly, so expect WWE to lose $80 million. Bischoff introduced 3MW, Rico, and Batista. Batista will be one of the 15 RAW entrants into the Royal Rumble. The match is basically a looooooong squash as the Dudleys get zero offense. Hey, remember on the last RAW when Batista walked out on 3MW during their match against Kane & Rob Van Dam? And remember when 3MW teased a breakup? And remember when Batista and D-Von used to be friends\enemies? 3, count them, 3 storylines forgotten in the span of one segment. 2003 is not looking good. The match part of the pain ends at 4:28 after Batista hits D-Von with his Sitout Powerbomb. Bleh. The beatdown continues. Bischoff slaps D-Von then we fade into commercial.

Winners: 3 Minute Warning, Rico, & Batista via pinfall

Well it makes sense that was dropped.....Hogan/America left WWE.

We should think of ones aborted when the persons still around.

How bout that storyline with Ultimo Dragons mega-push vs. Rey Jr.?

Ultimo Dragon, who is that? Oh right... the Japanese dude with the funny mask. Is he still in WWE?

I think thats him. He went from CW Superstar to Just Above Funaki.

And ironically they are both japanese.

RACISM!

**THE D-VON and BATISTA STORYLINE WAS ENDED**

Batista and D-Von were never friends. They were partners in D-Von's ministry. Once their team started losing, Batista attacked "Reverend D-Von" and kicked his ass the next week, as well. They had a match, and Batista destroyed him again.

Batista then went to RAW and D-Von recruited Ron Simmons as his new partner.

That seems like the end of the storyline for me. Batista couldn't be controlled, and kicked D-Von's ass.

He went to a different show.

**THE Mr. AMERICA STORYLINE WAS ENDED**

Lame as it was, with Hulk leaving/whatever so abruptly.

Mr. McMahon's cameras caught Mr. America unmasking backstage, and he was "revealed" to be Hulk Hogan.

McMahon, as promised, instantly fired Hogan. He's still gone.

***DIVAS Vs. TRISH***

Molly hates Trish because Molly is "pure" and Trish represents glamour, sexuality, and a title threat.

Victoria hates Trish because they "both started out in fitness competitions together" and Trish was contacted before Victoria to come to the WWE. Victoria crazily believes Trish cost Victoria a shot at coming sooner by "sleeping her way" to the top.

Gail Kim hates Trish because 1)Trish accidently kicked her in a tag match (trish/gail Vs. molly/victoria) and cost Gail her first ever loss. ALso, that loss led to the Molly Vs. Gail match the next week, in which Kim lost the Women's Title. Molly brainwashed Gail Kim into eliminating Trish from WWE.

Lita likes Trish.

Ivory, as a face, by default, at least tolerates Trish.

Jazz's hatred for Trish stems to Jazz's WWF debut, at SSeries 01, which was ruined when Trish gotr the upset win in the 6-pack match for the Women's Title. Tehy feuded forever, and she sees Trish as nothing but "great white hype". Teddy Long also has added to her hatred for the white man, or in this case, the white girl.

Kidman was never teased to be a heel.

He just showed up with a short haircut, and dressed nicely, with some hot ladies.

That was the internet who started that rumor, although obviously it could've easily happened.

If I recall, he appeared during an Ultimo Vs. Rey match and put over both guys afterwards.

Then he started teaming with Rey, gained some momentum, and dissapeared, like Kidman always has since 2001.

Christopher Nowinski and Molly Holly, aka the Hymen angle.

I was really starting to love that angle, too bad Nowinski had to go and get that concussion and then become a crazy sleep-walker.

I never liked how they dropped the Spike/Molly romance. It should have led to a CW title match between Spike and Hurricaine, with Spike losing the match but in defeat Molly reaffirms her love for him.

Instead how's it end? Big Show getting strippers for Spike at a bar.

*EDIY*- My Bad, I missed that the year in question was 2003.

As for 2003- Scott Steiner as serious World Title threat. Not that I was upset they dropped it, just very funny that huge build-up was placed on that fued and then it blew up (literally) in their faces.

Hmm...Spike and Molly...

I never really got into that whole thing, as it was kinda bland and contrived.

I DID like when Austin insulted Molly and Spike stood up for his girl. But then they just had Austin squash Spike and it was silly.

Yeah, how did Molly turn to Hurricane? Was it explained?

I recall her showing up as "Mighty Molly" one week and Spike being upset.

Where's the Molly Holly mark at, he should know for sure! Explanation!

Molly got laid out during one of the Hollys/Dudleys brawls and Hurricane came out and carried her away to safety. And the next week, Spike and Hurricane had a European Title match. Hurricane ran away and backstage she appeared with Hurricane as Mighty Molly.

Ultimo, I remember that stuff. Victoria was introduced in that angle, by Molly, when the 3 of them (and Regal?) were backstage.

Did injuries kill that angle or was it forgotten?

'Cause that whole stuff happened around what, September-Nov. 02 right...yet Nowinski was teaming with Rodney Mack by June '03.

They probably forgot it.

What was that "hymen" line that Nowinski used that one time?

The Nowinski/Molly angle was just forgotten. That happened in mid-'02.

Nowinski and Holly were about to have a mixed tag team match against Bubba Ray Dudley and Trish. Before the match, Nowinski was talking with Regal, and he was like, "Tonight, after we beat Trish and Bubba Ray...I'm going to break...Molly's...hymen."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Nowinski was so great.

I remember the Nowinski/Dreamer classroom fight when he hit Tommy with the skeleton or something.

He had a really bright future, IMO, with the right fine-tuning.

Yeah, I love how Torrie Wilson conviently forgot that Dawn Marie sexed her dad to his literal death. I guess hatred for Shaniqua will drive a woman to that madness.

Or something.

I always thought that Nowinski should have won the male side for the first Tough Enough, because Nowinski had a natural heel aura and charisma that Maven was nowhere near. And I am happy to say that I was at the RAW when Nowinski made his debut, helping out Regal against Bradshaw I think. June 10th, 2002 in Atlanta, GA.

Something else important happened that day...what was it. Oh yeah, Stone Cold walked out of the company.

Maven sucks, so much.

Nowinski may not be miles ahead, wrestling-wise, but at least he's had some entertaining moments.

You could have substituted "random jobber X" to dropkick UT over the ropes at the Royal Rumble.

Nowinski just looks like an asshole, which I like.

Well, there was Kidman putting Rey on his shoulders and parading him around the ring after Rey's victories. Seemed to me they were setting up tension between the 2, leading to a split & heel Kidman.

Anyway, Nunzio as Knoble's cousin, as well as the FBI's "hit list".

Yes, cause I know I would just hate someone that accidently kicked me. And Molly never 'brainwashed' Gail; she just threatened to kick her ass if she didn't help her with Trish.

Kidman was never teased to be a heel.

He attacked Mysterio at a house show to try out the storyline. The heel turn went to Tajiri instead.

Did injuries kill that angle or was it forgotten?

It was forgotton when Regal joined the Un-Americans, which was ended not too long after he came into the group.

When Tajiri bowed to Ultimo and acted like he wanted him to join the Yakuza and Dragon blew him off, I thought they might finally go somewhere with him, but they decided to go with Rey
