Bad live performances of good songs

Recommended Posts

The worst example of this has to be Axl Rose appearing with Tom Petty on an old MTV awards show and doing Free Falling. Now I'm I like Guns 'N' Roses as much as the next guy but man did Axl ruin that song "NOOOOOOWWWW IMMM FREEEEEEEE FREEEEEE FAAAALLLLING! Another band I've seen who butchers almost all of their songs live is the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, now I know they've got a huge live following (Why else would they still be selling out 2000 seat theaters) but good lord their singer sucks live.

Another example I saw in person was some huge fat white guy opening for the Drifters at a county fair I went to just taking Sitting on The Dock of the Bay out back and beating the life out of it. Just awful.

when I saw Pearl Jam on the latest tour, the sound was a bit too distorted and that kind of killed the experience for me.

My cousin saw the Counting Crows years ago, and he said they played an awful, slowed down version of Mr. Jones.

When I saw Megadeth, their sound was AWFUL. I couldn't make out any songs but "Sweating Bullets" and "Symphony Of Destruction," really. And they didn't play "Peace Sells"!

At a local show I went to, this band covered "For Whom The Bell Tolls." I wouldn't have cared, had they not covered "What's My Age Again?" before it and "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous" after it. A classic metal tune sandwiched between two pop/punk songs is BAD. Not only that, but the guitarist couldn't do the triplet part that Kirk does in the beginning, and they forgot that it's the BASSIST that does the whiney, doomy lead in the beginning. Forgot half the words, too.

Agreed about Axl Rose and Tom Petty doing "Free Falling." That might be the only Axl related song I cannot defend. Although, on the GNR Live Era CD, "Sweet Child Of Mine" is pretty bad too.

Beyounce just murdered Satana's "Oye Coma Va" at the super bowl pre-game last year. That was disgusting.

Some band (I believe GooGooDolls) murdered "Carry On Wayward Son" in a live performance, even going to far as to say something along the lines of "Does anyone remember the fucking words to this?"

Another one I saw at one of those "Jingle Ball" holiday concerts thrown by top 40 stations was a cover of AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long by Evan And Jaron (Two Jewish identical twin brothers that had one hit) that was so awful. All the fathers that brought their 12 year olds daughters were like "THIS FUCKING SUCKS!" It was just god-awful.

Celine Dion does a horrible cover of it as well.

Garbage did a pretty poor rendition of "Can't Get You Out of my Head."

Trapt was playing at a local music festival, and they kept fucking up horribly. Their lead singer was climbing all over the speakers, slipped off, got pissed, went back to the center of the stage, stepped in the wrong spot, causing a shitload of reverb from his standing on the main speaker with a wireless microphone, and was booed off of the stage.

It was great.

Papa Roach and their most God awful rendition of Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion at the ICON show on MTV. Completely horrible singing, and the music wasn't even close to anything resembling the actual song. This was so bad that it didn't even make the replays of the show.
