Masked Man of Mystery

Here's an idea

Recommended Posts

What if the WWF/E/I don't care anymore bought some time during either Saturday mornings or like early afternoons, like 12 Eastern ish, and took all the Cruiserweighst and put them on that show? Obviously, you can't have the kind of angles they've been running recently(ie Kane burning JR et all) but you have some simple storylines running, and let the cruisers run wild, and kids can watch, because you intentionally make sure this is kid friendly, and not only do the cruisers get to to do their thing, you now get a HUGE marketing thing going because kids will buy Rey Mysterios masks and action figures and Ultimo action figures(Rey may well be the most kid friendly person in the organization right now) and whatever and HH won't have a threat to to his belt because you'd have a cruiser singles and tag team belts and you could bring in all kinds of international talent and it won't matter if they can speak English because it won't be necessary and I think the majority of the hardcore wrestlign fans would tune in too. Heck, if it worked in the 80s why can't it work now?

It'll never happen because Vince McMahon's philosophy is that regular or small-sized guys will not ever draw money in any way.

Are there enough Cruiserweights to actually constitute a regular show that is child-friendly? I can think of Rey, Ultimo, Tajiri, Funaki, Knoble, Chavo (somewhat), Spanky, Paul London, Gowen (if he even counts), and that's it.

Nunzio I think you missed.

And I'm sure they could bring some indy guys in.

...hell, what's Nova doing?

EDIT: Also, for more fun, if they got him out of tag matches put Scotty 2 Hotty there. He IS a former Light-Heavyweight Champion, after all.

You don't think that sticking the Cruisers all on one show wouldn't make the gulf between them and the people Vince sees as "real" wrestlers even bigger than it is now? Yeah the show might be fun but what you'd basically be saying is "you can't draw money or compete with the big boys - have your own pint-sized playground and leave the real storylines (read: Sable dancing) for the real wrestlers".

I'd watch it, but I can't help but think that it would forever remove even the slightest possibility that a cruiser could go on to be world champion some day, or even be taken remotely seriously as a title threat.

New Japan juniors are separated, and in cases like Fujinami or Otani, they've eventually gone heavyweight. Typically, the wrestlers are going to make a name for themselves against wrestlers of equal size who can play to their strengths, at least the smaller wrestlers. If at that point, the audience demand is there for them to wrestle heavyweights, then nothing says they have to stay in the cruiser division forever. There you go.

I don't know about a separate show, just because that would make them all come across as a sideshow attraction instead of real competitors, but running tournaments to legitimize them and give them prestige would be a good idea.

It's all a matter of how you present them. If you downplay it, they're going to sink. But if you give them the time to shine, use it to build them up, and let them have cross-over success when they're ready, they'll do just fine.

How about Billy Kidman? How dull must he be to hold the Cruiserweight belt and STILL have people forget about him.

Oh, and there is also Shannon Moore, but I suppose he's busy being a hoss' bitch

Well, I think the majority of the hardcore fans(and maybe some puro fans if they could get some nice talent) would watch it, and well, the marks would probably stick with the Hoss brigade

They should have a morning show to try to hook a younger audience, whether they stack it with cruisers or hosses or whatever.

They should be at work on the next generation of WWE fans.

I first got hooked watching Saturday Morning JObber Squash or whatever the hell it was called.

it's a gamble.

we all assume that Vince is overly bias about the Cruiserweights that he is unfairly holding them down.

however if you do have a show that is all cruiserweights, like Raw and Smackdown it would also be a arena event with people buying the tickets from that town..

if the show had the usual amount of viewers it would be good for the cruiserweights.

but Vince believes that if you put on just Cruisers you won't get the numbers of people you would with the Hosses as well, at least the headliners

Because of their lack of exposure the cruisers are not well known enough for a whole town to buy tickets for..

Same here. The Saturday morning shows are a great way of getting kids interested in their programming and product. I don't think it should necessarily be just SD's cruiserweights, but they could use undercarders from both Raw and SD. Hurricane is fairly kid friendly, too.
