Soldier writes letter to Michael Moore

Recommended Posts

I don't know whether to believe if this is real or not, being that Moore seems to invent a lot of shit. Anyway, from michaelmoore.com:

" Dear Mr. Moore:

I’m writing this without knowing if it’ll ever get to you. I’m writing it not knowing why, or knowing what I’m going to say. I’m writing it not knowing if I’ll ever finish it or mail it. I’m writing it from the trenches of a war (that’s still going on,) not knowing why I’m here or when I’m leaving. I’ve toppled statues and vandalized portraits, while wearing an American flag on my sleeve, and struggling to learn how to understand.

I was in Vindanza, Italy when I heard your Oscar acceptance speech. It was the day before I boarded a plane and experienced a “combat landing” in uncharted territory in northern Iraq. It was such a surreal feeling—the only light came from a red bulb—we sat shoulder to shoulder in silence. We were told to expect heavy artillery/chemical attacks. I can’t say I know what was on the minds of those men packed next to me, but I assume it was thoughts of family and religion. But me, a single 20 year old, I was thinking about what you had said. I joined the army as soon as I was eligible – turned down a writing scholarship to a state university, eager to serve my country, ready to die for the ideals I fell in love with. Two years later I found myself moments away from a landing onto a pitch black airstrip, ready to charge into a country I didn't believe I belonged in, with your words repeating in my head.

My time in Iraq has always involved finding things to convince myself that I can be proud of my actions; that I was a part of something just. But no matter what pro-war argument I came up with, I pictured my smirking commander-in-chief, thinking he was fooling a nation. I discovered that the result of the war and the actions of G.W. cannot be treated as the same issue. Bush accidentally did a good thing for the Iraqi people. After the fact he's starting to claim humanitarian intentions for going to war - obviously bullshit. But he realizes that that is the only positive outcome. I could explain what I've seen here; a people forced into poverty & ignorance – but I'll spare you. I try not to think about the ultimate future of this place. I'm sure we'll cause them to fall victim to Banana Republic and Joe Millionaire, with a puppet president and monopolized oil industry. But there will be plenty of time in the future to worry about those things.

I can't say I know what I believe. I am willing to accept that my opinions are a result of a given subconscious, not sufficient knowledge. Do I support care for the low income class because I truly understand the system, or because I've personified inadequacies and identified with those who experience struggle. Does a conservative oppose gay rights because he genuinely understands the issue or because he's scared to face deeper levels of humanity? What if you could be given a reason for everything you believe, but the reason is unrelated to the topic – the result of a life and a psyche? Will we believe those things the same way we used to? I call myself a liberal because I've been moved to tears by the words of Paul Wellstone, scenes in "The Awful Truth," the funeral of Matthew Sheppard, and the homeless people in the city I once lived in. It's not what I know, it's what I felt. It's dangerous to rely on emotions to guide your moral compass – but it’s the only way to be honest. I understand everything I believe may be wrong; that I believe for a reason, and that reason may not be reality. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say. Maybe just that I can't look at this war politically. I can only look at it as an experience that has taught me that life is dictated by seconds and inches; one that has caused me to face death and loss and fear. And at its core, stripped of the WMD's and no-contest contracts, it's been about one thing: serving my country. The most difficult thing has been learning how to be proud of that. This country, I'm serving,…is it America? Has it ever been? It's always bothered me that, despite the American philosophy, it became NECESSARY for a civil right movement, it became NECESSARY to form the ACLU. I've simultaneously battled Saddam loyalists and these questions. Kind of an odd setting for suddenly doubting my patriotism. But while my fight with those trying to kill my friends & I is far from ending, the fight within myself has ended.

I found what I've been fighting for. It's been you, all along. I hated you on a plane ride in the dark with shaking hands. But you've been the roof of my loyalty, my bravery, and my dignity. Mr. Moore, you are America. This isn't a "I'm a hip liberal & I'll be cool if I get an autographed copy of Stupid White Men" letter. I've faced every weapon, from SCUDs to swords, and I've had to face why. And you've been the answer. I'm serving a country in which you live; where you're allowed to speak and PEOPLE LISTEN; where you're allowed to write and PEOPLE READ. What a beautiful country – every injustice has a prosecutor – every struggle has a defender. We are still a country being born. Compassion will never lose to conservatism…the country could be ruled by Jerry Falwell and Dick Cheney – but there will always be tears, as long as there is injustice and oppression and greed and hypocrisy. And there will always be you, the people you've taught, the lives you've influenced. You reminded me that America exists, and I suppose this letter is meant to thank you for that. I can't explain the pride you've instilled in me, and the comfort you've given me, to know that if I find myself fallen on the battlefield, I gave my life serving something I loved and truly believed in.

Sincerely,

Mike Prysner"

I think Moore had a bad dream after eating a couple of million tacos.

The soldier probably coated the letter with gravy so to attract Mikey's attention.

By the way, I just got a letter from another soldier in Iraq on Sunday. Here it is:

Dear kkk,

Hi, I used to lurk around TSM forums for quite some time before being called off to fulfill my patriotic duty. You are one of my favorite posters and I managed to get John Ashcroft to track down where you live so I could write to you.

I was “lucky” enough to watch the most recent Oscar awards while stationed in Italy and I can’t believe what that fat fuck Michael Moore did when he accepted his prize. And what the fuck is up with the academy for giving him an award for “documentary” when that piece of shit should be under “comedy”?

Anyway, I’m writing to you because I’m worried that this fat tub of shit might pull out some “letter-from-a-soldier” ploy, what with this being the holiday season and all. I just want you, and the rest of the pro-American TSM posters to know that we’re still out here kicking ass and taking names, but yet making sure not to violate the civil rights of anyone we capture. Sure the job sucks, but that’s the price one pays for freedom. We all over here know that the majority of people in America support us, and that only a handful of loudmouth pseudo-terrorists who don’t know their head from their ass actually do exist.

So, in conclusion, kkk, happy holidays and all that.

Sincerely,

*name withheld at request of soldier*

PS: Is there any way you can enlarge Marney’s Avatar? Thanks...

Just some constructive feedback for Mike, and KKK. As much as I disagree with you guys when it comes to political stance, I usually enjoy the thought that goes into your posts, and the way that you articulate your feelings. That being said, I think that both of you are doing a diservice to yourselves when you use fat jokes while trying to get your points across. It comes across as juvenile and definitely below both of your levels of intelligence, especially since you guys are both not teenagers. A lot of conservative ideology is based upon Christian principles, and the Bible, and it is a shame to see such egocentric behavior that is in opposition to the teachings of the Bible...especially at Christmas time. Nonetheless, Happy Holidays!

You're perfectly correct. My avatar > Marney's.

Thank you for your response.

Articulate? I'll be the first person to tell you that there's probably nobody here that's more full of shit than me, but I'll take the compliment nevertheless.

There is no point when making fat jokes -- we're just making fun of good ol' Mikey.

Intelligent? That could be debated.

especially since you guys are both not teenagers.

That cannot be debated.

So what? I'm going to rot in hell for a lot of the stuff I say/do at TSM, not to mention what I say/do in real life.

Nonetheless, Happy Holidays!

Ditto.

Now it's time to offend the heathens...

Thanks for the kind words.

I don't waste my time often discussing Moore as I think the man is, flat out, a braindead troglodyte. I felt dumber having read that alleged letter.

If you found better shots of Kylie Minogue, I might agree. She's an uber-hottie, but your avatar isn't the best pic of her I've seen. Heck, I liked the old pic you had of her in your sig. Change need not always be done.

It's got a hippie-vibe to it, but at least I'm not scared anymore.

I woudln't call what happened to Kamui "patriotic duty."

Damn! I wish I had thought of this earlier. I, err, the soldier, could have mentioned that he shoots all his targets in the foot...

I googled his name and the only reference I got to a "Mike Prysner" existing outside of this letter was from this site. It says

Former WOW Teen Editor Mike Prysner, son of Pam and Dennis Prysner of The Fords, recently returned to Tampa to work in the Army’s recruiting office while enjoying some leave time at home with his family.  A graduate of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in Ft. Huachuca, AZ, a program which has left him just six credits shy of an associate degree, Prysner will remain at home until early March.  At that time he will join his 10th Mountain Infantry Division at Ft. Drum, NY, where he will attend Air Assault School.  His unit is deployed on peacekeeping operations in Kosovo until May when it is expected to be deployed to Afghanistan.

This was updated almost two years ago...could this be our same guy? OMG CONSERVATIVE CONSPIRACY THEORY LOL~!!!1

Why not? The people who like him, aren't going to care, and the people who hate the guy will never change their opinion about the guy.

Exactly. Every Michael Moore fan to whom I gave a laundry list of exaggerations, truth-twisting, and outright lies in Bowling has given me the lame excuse "Well if the point is good what does it matter?

We call that sort of justification the "weapons of mass destruction loophole."

Well, we haven't been definitively proved that WMDs weren't there. Now, being from Detroit, I call this one the "Colemen Young, this is YOUR CHILD" precedent. You've been proven wrong, you just never admit to it.

If it's fake, it'll be a huge blow to Moore and his credibility with the general public when exposed. Do you really think he'd take that chance?

If "Bowling in Columbine" didn't kill his credibility, nothing will.

-=Mike

...Heck, since "Bowling" won an Oscar for Best Documentary, I half-expect him to win a Pulitzer for this. Heck, Duranty won one for his rampant lying during the 30's.

On the lovely subject of antrax:

After lying for four years, Iraq admitted in 1995 to producing nearly 8,500 liters of anthrax.

Furthermore, the Iraqi's noted that only one facility was involved in the production of anthrax and that none of the biological agent was produced in 1991. Moreover, Iraq said it filled 50 R-400 bombs and five missile warheads with anthrax.

UNMOVIC's report recollects UNSCOM's conclusions:

Iraq's anthrax production potential could have been as much as 25,000 liters.

Evidence that a second facility produced anthrax in 1991.

Evidence that more than five warheads were filled with anthrax.

That there is no reliable or final assessment of how many R-400 bombs were filled with anthrax.

UNMOVIC concludes:

About 10,000 additional liters of anthrax were not destroyed and may still exist.

"Iraq currently possesses the technology and materials...to enable it to produce anthrax."

By 1993, Iraq was successfully drying large quantities of a bacteria that "could be a model for anthrax."

As the Secretary noted on February 5, Iraq has developed a mobile biological agent production capability. In only one month's time, these mobile units can produce the same, or more, dry anthrax equivalent to the 10,000 liters Iraq has hidden from inspectors.

On the subject of VX:

Iraq's Chemical Weapons declarations in April 1991 and June 1992 did not disclose Iraq's VX program. Only in March 1995 did Iraq admit to having produced large-scale amounts of VX — one of the most dangerous chemical agents created.

Iraq claims never to have successfully weaponized VX.

UNMOVIC's document concludes:

Iraq provided false and misleading declarations in order to retain production equipment specifically modified to produce VX.

Direct physical evidence contradicts Iraq's claim that it never weaponized VX.

Iraq failed to provide any credible evidence to support its claims of unilateral destruction of VX and VX precursors.

UN inspectors reported to the UN Security Council that "UNMOVIC has information that conflicts with [iraq's] account. There are indications that Iraq had worked on the problems of purity and stabilization and that more had been achieved than has been declared."

On R-400 CBW arial bombs:

R-400 Bombs

Iraq first claimed it had 1,200 R-400 chemical bombs.

After Iraq admitted its biological weapons program in 1995, Iraq altered its story and added 350 R-400 bombs.

However, UNSCOM has never fully verified Iraq's ever-changing claims and concluded it did not know how many R-400 bombs Iraq produced for chemical/biological agents.

Of these 1,550 bombs, Iraq says it filled 157 with biological agents. Nothing supports that number. UNSCOM concluded it did not know how many Iraq filled with biological weapons.

Iraq claims today that newly-found bombs and bomb fragments add up close to 157 and that, therefore, the issue of R-400 biological bombs can be closed.

Regrettably, the fact is that Iraq has refused to provide a complete and accurate count on how many R-400 bombs — filled or unfilled — Iraq really has in its possession.

From a summary of Hans Blix's March report to the Security Council in 2003 (cross referenced here)

I'm sure we can all trust that Saddam Hussien destroyed those NBC weapons and that after he did so he destroyed all the documentation proving he had done so as he claimed in 91, 95, 98, & 02. He's a good guy after all, right?

I'm seriously very sick of people thinking that stuff from CNN, NYTimes, FAUX News etc. as gospel. The information is out there. Look it up for yourselves.

It's not like truth, logic and facts have stopped him before.
