DVD commentary tracks

Recommended Posts

I love the DVDs....but the Family Guy's commentaries just suck balls. Occasionally, there'll be some good insight (and funny moments, like Seth saying "Fuck" in Peter's voice), but there's a helluva lot of silence.

I almost always listen to them. A lot of the 'actor' commentaries [ie, The Mummy commentary track with Arnold Vosloo, Kevin J. O'Connor and the other guy; or the Fight Club track with Pitt, Norton, and the director] are usually quite entertaining and humorous.

I enjoy the commentary tracks on DVDs especially the ones that add back story to the movie. On the Dunken Master dvd it had commentary by Ric Meyers who has written books and in magazines in depth about Martial Arts. His insight into the character of Won Fei Hung, helped me understand and enjoy the movie more. Such as commenting that the Drunken Master was like a who's who of Won Fei Hung films which date back to the days of black & white. Or the fact that Simon Yuen who played the role of the old master died a few years after the movie was made but still was featured in several spinoff movies about his character even though they were not true sequels the studios still advertised it as such, i.e. 36 Crazy Fists and Manificient Butcher among others.

I like the documentary style of commentary over the getting the cast together to talk about nothing tracks.

Ric Meyers isn't that great of a Hong Kong movie expert as Bey Logan is. He kept referencing a scene that was in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow that was redone in Zorro on the Drunken Master DVD and when he didn't see it, he just said the footage was cut and probably lost forever.

I watched Clerks with commentary the other day and I was bored out of my skull. Not very good.

Just wait for the (rumoured) 10th Anniversary Clerks DVD. I'm sure that version will be a freakin' monster.

Kevin Smith bored me to death on Clerks. But Chasing Amy was hilarious. Everyone making fun of Affleck's acting ability, Affleck cracking on Smith about Adams dumping his ass, and Mewes passes out again.
