Guest Besus Report post Posted December 23, 2003 So many say it is.I only played it once and Never got a chance to play long. This was like in 2001.Anyways can someone tell me what makes NM better then any other WWF game?
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 The grappling engine, the storyline was one of the first in its time (outcomes actually counts in the storyline.) and you could design 4 possible attires for the CAWs.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Even though everyone says its "OMFG BEST GAME EVR~!1", I find it quite "bleh" once I started playing SD: SYM, which was a bit better. Then HCtP came out and its LIGHT YEARS better than SYM to me, thus making it better than No Mercy. I tried playing NM the other day, but got bored with it in 10 minutes. the max 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 The only thing that pisses me off about it is the GLITCH~! that happens when you're in the midst of a season and it decides to delete your created character and you suddenly become a generic looking fool. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Then HCtP came out and its LIGHT YEARS better than SYM to me, thus making it better than No Mercy. I tried playing NM the other day, but got bored with it in 10 minutes. HCTP took baby steps forward in graphics and gameplay, but took a HUGE step back because of the lousy character balance. SYM is still better to me. HCTP makes it impossible to make CAWs and even start them with the correct stats. You have to build EACH ONE up first. Wrestlers don't specialize in moves like they could back when you'd make a wrestler have, say, a 5 in power moves and a 7 in Technical moves, or how Cruisers would have 9's for "Speedy" moves. "Strength" determines all damage. Hosses are favored heavily in the game. It sucks if you want to play with any non-main-eventers. Or wrestlers who vary in total attribute points. I'd rank SYM an 8/10 when it came out. I'd rank HCTP a 6/10. If it isn't broke, don't f*** it up, Yukes. If No Mercy were faster and had better graphics I'd not even clamor for an update. We just gotta hope WMXX on GC has a decent season mode isntead of that Revenge mode crap. However, No Mercy still stacks up pretty well today, but it can get hard to readjust after playing the PS2 games.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 I love No Mercy and I still play it to this day. It's by far the best WWF/E game, but nothing touches Fire Pro Wrestling D as the best wrestling game ever in my opinion.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 It was the best WWF game better, but it wasn't the best in the series. WCW/NWO Revenge was more fun to play because of the greater mix of performers. Everyone seems to wrestle the same generic WWF Style in No Mercy. In Revenge, playing Hulk Hogan is not the same as playing Booker T which is not the same as playing Juventud Guerrera. The roster is much better in Revenge. the max 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 But No Mercy has the wonderful "body damage" thing, where if you continue to work the knee, it shows, and they tap out quicker.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Yes I remember making them limp or holding their injured part.

With the notable exception of the damn joystick kickout glitch which sucks the fun out of multiplayer matches in Revenge (except battle royals) Revenge is the better game on the whole, and I wanted to reply to state that fact, and also the fact that your avatar rules, Kahran. EDIT: Well, that's post 420... my lucky number. Alright... *points to self with thumbs*
Guest Douche Report post Posted December 23, 2003 But No Mercy has the wonderful "body damage" thing, where if you continue to work the knee, it shows, and they tap out quicker. I think they did that shit back in World Tour. You obviously have no video gaming taste if you prefer SYM over NM.
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 The only thing No Mercy is missing is luchadore masks. I think No Mercy and Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium are the 2 best wrestling games I've ever played.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 I always loved No Mercy even though I thought the graphics were kind of too dark. I mean you barely could see the environment.
dubq 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 IMO, HCTP surpasses No Mercy in pretty much every aspect. Fuck, I try playing No Mercy now and it's like watching two snails cross the fucking street. SLOOOOWWWW!

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 (edited) IMO, HCTP surpasses No Mercy in pretty much every aspect. Except, you know, CHARACTER BALANCE. No Mercy had the weight detection thing but it wasn't horribly slanted in hosses' favor like HCTP is. Midcarders and jobbers stood a good chance against main eventers. Also, fahgetabout making CAWs have the stats you want right off the bat. You have to build them up slooowly one by one. That takes forever. Plus you can't even clone a CAW that's been in Season mode and edit stats--once stats are set, they're set in stone. Sure, it's perfect if you are making a CAW of yourself and only yourself and like building him up, but if you want to make several real-life wrestlers, you have to invest too much time into making their stats even competitive with the in-game wrestlers. In SYM, you'd earn the "extra attribute points" card and that was it. Plus, you could edit attributes after making a CAW--none of this "you can only ADD points and only after earning them in Season mode," which takes too long. I find it odd so many people can blindly ignore gaping gameplay flaws that were pointlessly self-inflicted by Yukes. Nobody asked for that those to be in. *is becoming the Anglesault of the Video Game/Toy folder* Edited December 23, 2003 by AndrewTS
Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted December 23, 2003 No Mercy does some things better that other games don't, but in terms of the total package nothing touches HCTP. You make a list of every little good thing about HCTP and compare it to the same list for No Mercy and there's just no comparison. It's like comparing an old skateboard to a new one and saying the old ones better because you liked clay wheels.

The "new skateboard's" wheels are all wildly different sizes, so the old skateboard's better.
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted December 23, 2003 It was the best WWF game better, but it wasn't the best in the series. WCW/NWO Revenge was more fun to play because of the greater mix of performers. Nope - the best in the series is VPW2. The only thing No Mercy is missing is luchadore masks. I try playing No Mercy now and it's like watching two snails cross the fucking street. SLOOOOWWWW! VPW2 has an incredible mask generator and no slowdown, plus it has an awesome shoot- fighting mode. It is greater then No Mercy. Although I think WrestleMania XIX is a very underrated grappler - Revenge mode really kills it for most people, which I can understand. Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Yep, VPW2 is the best of the series. Mask editor, shoot fighting, huge roster, awesome list of unlockable legends, the ring announcer TALKS~!, the 1st one w/ running grapples. Just an awesome, awesome game. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Although I think WrestleMania XIX is a very underrated grappler - Revenge mode really kills it for most people, which I can understand. Definitely. What's so hard about a mode where you face a bunch of CPU opponents one after the other in persuit of a title? I'm sure the programmers can handle that. Instead we got a half-assed beat 'em up where you can drop security guards on their faces onto concrete for 17 minutes straight but they won't juice.

Sonic Reducer 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 It's easily the best wrestling game on the 64. Overall, though, I think the honor goes to Here Comes the Pain.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Having not played HCTP, I feel obliged to at least defend No Mercy, and point out some flaws. It gives you a pretty huge battery space for saving CAWs, 4 per character, actually. No lucha masks, tho...ugh. The best you can do is create Mysterio in a white outfit, give him the white Aki-Man mask, and give him white hair. It looks pretty good. Inability to edit the established characters moves & entrances. I've got Test, etc. looking exactly like they do now...yet, Test still comes to the ring with Trish Stratus. Sigh. Whoever complained that HCTP doesn't give the jobbers/cruisers a fair shake against the big-guys...well...isn't that pretty realistic? No Mercy easily outshined Revenge. C'mon, the "tap up on analog stick" thing is just pathetic. The different moves each CAW can be given is pretty neat. You can easily make most people with a little effort. Great game. Any knocks on it are just b/c of the new technologies that have came out since it's release.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 A question: as someone who is SO used to the No Mercy-style and controls...which new game would I best like? I do NOT want a game with the awful WWF Warzone/WWF Attitude controls. (Multi-button combos and such)
MooreMark 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 I'm a diehard WM2k/No Mercy fan and I thought Wrestlemania 19 for Gamecube was the way to go after years of mastering the no mercy style.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 No Mercy easily outshined Revenge. C'mon, the "tap up on analog stick" thing is just pathetic. You could always not use that. Plus, the more you use that "trick", the more you'll be susceptible to tapping out quickly.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Yes Wrestlemania XIX is pretty much like No Mercy in terms of the grappling engine. It even has a shopzone and all. Now if they had a fun storyline mode like No Mercy, all's kosher.
