Three gorgeous pashmina shawls from my Aunt Sarah - one green, one red, and one white, all with gold and silver thread sewn into them in paisley patterns; half a dozen different Persian floral attars, an emerald YSL evening gown, a shimmering black Giorgio Armani dress with long black gloves, and a long white mink coat with matching hat, scarf, and gloves from Mummy; a three-tiered pearl choker, two pairs of silk pyjamas, a set of silver-plated drink-mixing tools, two beautiful crystal goblets, and ten bottles of 148 year-old cognac from Daddy; a pair of 2 carat diamond stud earrings set in white gold from my lovely wife, and about twenty other smaller things.

And the best gift of all, from Daddy, naturally: a new, specially commissioned, custom-built .357 Desert Eagle mark XIX with a matte black finish. It includes a built-in "intelligent" laser sight, an optional silencing mechanism, and a recoil-absorbing grip, and (thanks to some truly amazing technical wizardry) it weighs just under three pounds fully loaded.

It's good to be the universally adored baby girl of the family.

I'm not, unfortunately, since I'm on a government salary and my wife's still in school. My parents though? Well, not quite to a Bill Gates degree or anything, but yeah, they're very comfortable. Aunt Sarah, on the other hand... she's the one who lives by herself in a sixty-three room "house" in Louisiana with more people on her domestic staff than there were in my last government department, and passes the time by throwing million-dollar "coming-out" parties for her friends' grandchildren while writing to me and my wife to "visit" for a few months.

They always try to top themselves year after year, and it's been going on for over 20 years now... but hey, I'm not complaining if it gets me the kind of handgun James Bond dreams about. I'd better call someone and register this beautiful, beautiful work of art.

Did anyone get any dissapointed gift recievers? I hate that.

My parents felt bad. I kept telling them not to. They gave me some good gifts but I spent about 120 bucks on them(they still spent more on me) and they were happy with what they got but they felt bad saying they didn't get me enough and my mom started crying. I told her not to but she wouldn't stop. I felt really bad. I was happy with what I got and I expressed my gratitude but they were just upset that they didn't have enough money. My dad retired a few years back and he shouldn't have because now we don't have enough money and he has to go get a job.

Kind of a disappointing haul this year as all I pretty much got was clothes. I mean, I asked for sweatshirts, but I didn't need 10 of them (most of them I'll probably forget about in about a month or so). My parents (well, my mom specifically) felt kind of bad since I asked for a bunch of DVDs and only got 2 (3 if you include one I got from my friend about a week ago) and those 2 were ones that I had at the bottom of my list for a reason, so she asked me if I wanted to return the ones she got for me and use the money to get something else, but I told her it was ok. I hate to sound like a spoiled brat, but it's not like I asked for these really rare, hard to find DVDs, I could take someone out to the store and show them every single DVD I asked for (not that I was really expecting to get all of them), but I think that some people in my family are just too lazy to actually look so they just go with the 'safe' gift. Next year I'm instituting a 'no clothes' rule, but I'm sure I'll still get about 5 sweatshirts.

Looking at what I got, I didn't really get anything I wanted, just some stuff that I kind of needed but I got too much of it.

Yea- for Hannukah my mom got me Finding Nemo even though I specifically asked for the Flair and Bloodbath DVDs and told her they were the two I wanted the most- and Nemo was kind of at the bottom of the list.

Luckily she made up for it today

Just be grateful. I have a friend that didn't get anything for christmas. His roomates are to poor and his mom hates him.

I didn't get everything I wanted but I'm happy.

Yeah, I don't usually expect to get everything I want, but this is probably the first year there wasn't one thing that I got that I REALLY wanted. I'm trying not to seem like I'm pouting or anything, but it was kind of upsetting to keep going back to the tree and just knowing that 95% of what I was picking up was a shirt.

Shit. I knew there was *something* I left off my list.

I admire my mom's combination skills: leather jacket/fedora/Indiana Jones DVD set. A bunch of other fun stuff, especially a new set of Sennheiser headphones and the Alien Quadrilogy on DVD. And, finally, I own the ridiculous, bright orange sweater that all University of Virginia students really ought to have.

Most importantly, there's a giant pan of lasagna and brijole coming out of the oven right now. Later, suckers.
