razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2003 2. Heath Herring vs. Giant Silva Is Silva the guy who was in WWF? Does he have any MMA skills at all? I think Herring will win this match with one kick to the head.
Guest bort Report post Posted December 29, 2003 INOKI's show looks the weakest to me, both Takayama and Nagatas opponets cancelled, i havent seen alot of the guys fight but the matches i want to see are Josh Barnett vs Semmy Schilt Jan "The Giant" Nortje v. Masayuki Naruse K-1s show looks pretty solid and should do well at the gate, not really a fan of the k-1 rules Alexey Ignashov vs. Shinsuke Nakamura......If Nakamura losses then NJPW is gonna be hurtin i think PRIDE 'SP' looks like the best card to me, i hope it draws well. I look forward to Don Frye vs. Gary Goodridge Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Royce Gracies match as its been along time since i seen him fight
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2003 It is the very same Silva. Freak Show. God bless PRIDE. The SP card looks AMAZING: 1. Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson It's Rampage fighting - all of his fights are worth watching. 2. Heath Herring vs. Giant Silva Freak Show! Herring has been sucking in 03 but seeing Silva in MMA makes this interesting. 3. Hayato "Mach" Sakurai vs. Daiju Takase SWEEEET! Sakurai rules and Takase is still riding high on his win over Anderson Silva - whom Sakurai lost to. 4. Akira Shoji vs. Murillo Ninja Ninja fighting = good. Shoji always brings it. Shoji lost against Ninja's brother, Shogun, at Bushido. It's pretty simple booking, yet it owns the WWE... 5. Hidehiko Yoshida vs. Royce Gracie Royce is my #1 All-Time-Fave. Yoshida owns. Their last fight (which you can find on Kazaa, hint hint), was really fun and really active on the ground. This is a BIG rematch and a well deserved one for Gracie - since the last fight ended with such controversy. 6. Don Frye vs. Gary Goodridge Big Daddy's last match, 0-2 vs. Frye (both in the UFC), I look forward to this. If Frye is smart he'll come right at Gary and unload. I like both fighters, both are entertaining characters, should at least be 'interesting'. 7. Wataru Sakata vs. Daniel Gracie Originally, this was supposed to be Ryan Gracie vs. Sakata; with the story being Sakata is Eiko Koikes boyfriend (Eiko being the female announcer for PRIDE, the one they keep showing in Nogueiras fights, and is ultimately one of the hottest women on the planet!) and that's basically it... Well, it's good enough for me~! 8. Yuki Kondo vs. Mario Sperry This is just an awesome fight that could be FOTY if it doesn't pull a Hendo/Busta. 9. Kiyoshi Tamura vs. Ronnie Sefo According to Da Meltz, Sefo is the brother of Ray Sefo - a K-1 Kickboxing star. Tamura is always fun to watch, this should be no different. 10. Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira YES! TON Baby! The Other Noguiera~! This should be a great ground battle; but I can see Sakuraba wanting to keep it standing. He hasn't faired very well against Brazilians this year, TON may be no different. This should be great. So from Top-to-Bottom, this card could very well be the show of the year... did I just say that???! Final Conflict? Total Elimination? Body Blow? Am I NUTS!?! Guest sean pyro Report post Posted December 29, 2003 Is Silva the guy who was in WWF? naw this one is brazilian and he looks like sagat from street fighter... dude's is slow, uncoordinated and has little athleticism. "BAWH GAWD sign him up~!" \
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2003 Right and Wrong. The Silva in Silva vs. Herring IS the one from the WWE. The Silva you're talking about is also fighting that night, but in K-1... "Ernesto Hoost vs. Montanha Silva(K-1)" ...always trying to create the next Bob Sapp
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2003 I now want to see Gigante Silva vs Nathan Jones with MMA rules in PRIDE or K-1. Damn is Silva a common name in Brazil or what? It seems that there are as many Silva's in MMA as there are Johnsons in the NBA.

Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 29, 2003 Rudo - you have the Naruse vs. Nortje listed for both the K1 and Inoki show. It's going to only be in K1, from what I've heard. Stuart is reporting that Yuji Nagata will now face Fedor Emelianenko at Inoki's show. GO YUJI~! Of course, that could still be canceled thanks to PRIDE's previous threats of taking legal action should Fedor fight for Inoki. If it happens, I wouldn't mind seeing Nagata beaten to a pulp; he deserves it for agreeing to another fight like this. As for the shows, they seem pretty "spectacular" in the amount of novelty fights present, but only the PRIDE show really appeals to me, and even that looks a little underwhelming. I know they're having problems with Fedor and Cro Cop, but it would be nice to see Vanderlei Silva and Nogueira (the bigger one) on the card. Still, Yoshida/Gracie should be great and there are several other fights on the card that should be exciting.

Guest Colonel Meez Report post Posted December 30, 2003 Ya, word has it Nagata-Fedor is on for Boom Ba-yea!!! If so....Inokis show just gained some MAJOR credibility...... As much as I know Fedor is untouchable, something inside tells me nagata will show true fighting spirit, and come out looking amazing..lets hope!

How does booking a huge mismatch give the show credibility? The novelty of seeing Nagata get killed could appeal to some, but they've already seen that and frankly, Takayama is better at it. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2003 Prediction: Fedor is critically injured on his way to the arena via lightning strike, living him almost totally paralyzed and brain dead. However, he still defeats Nagata via TKO, Rd.1 *Big Laugh* I think they're going for a Fujita thing here, where just making it competitive -unlike his match vs. Cro Cop- will get him over. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 31, 2003 (edited) The problem with that is that Nagata isn't half the fighter Fujita it. Not only is he a bitch to knock out, but he looked like he had a chance of knocking Fedor out with a single punch. I don't think Nagata has a shot at looking nearly as competative. Just Fedor's name adds massive credibility, since he is by far one of the best in the world, and add Nagata, who will be representing New japan, and looking to abolish the image of him getting pummeled by Cro Cop,imo makes for a great seller. Before this match was announced, i was not looking forward to the Bom-Ba-Ye whatsoever, now I'm super psyched!
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Well, to be fair, Nagata's only MMA fight to date was against Cro Cop - and that was before the highkick was ever really an issue or something to look out for - so we don't really know how well he'd do. I mean, he'll probably get slaughtered - it's just a matter of when.

Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Here's Stuart's report: This was a very hard fought fight, but Nakamura INSTANTLY took down Ignashov and almost ended it early. Ignashov showed good defense, and the first round ended without major incident. Nakamura got the upper hand in round two, which was more physical. Both men hurt each other, but reports said Nakamura won the round, despite taking one of Ignashov's much feared knee kicks. Nakamura stayed up after it, and went for the takedown again. They tussled in the third round, before a brief pause when the doctor had to check a cut under Ignashov's left eye. After some more fighting, Ignashov landed another knee, and Nakamura hit the mat. Nakamura rose immediately... yet the referee stopped the match! Nakamura raised his voice in protest, clearly conscious and in control of his senses. The ring became a chaos zone, with arguments erupting. Backstage, a cocky Ignashov said "Nakamura was not strong". Director Uei immediately blasted K-1 producer, Sadaharu Tanikawa, demanding to know why the referee stopped the fight without even starting a count. Uei said is was unacceptable, and said furiously, "Shinsuke stood immediately!". After flooring Nakamura, Ignashov threw a cheap kick to the back of his head, which normally might have gotten him a yellow card, but that was overlooked. Nakamura was asked about whether he was damaged from the knee kick, and he said, "Not at all". Uei said there must be another war, and protested further. Tanikawa took it under consideration, and as of right now, the match is "no result". Tanikawa is considering a rematch, but that doesn't answer what the result will end up as. We should hear a decision soon, but many people watching the fight got the impression that the K-1 referee stopped the fight at the first opportunity he could, perhaps to protect K-1's big investment. No doubt the controversy will continue, especially if Ignashov's victory stands; New Japan and Nakamura will never acknowledge this as a defeat, and Nakamura, usually humble, was visibly disgusted. A few things: this was an MMA fight. I'm assuming the rules are the same here as they are for PRIDE. If that's true, there are no standing ten counts, like in K1. Not only that, but the "cheap kick to the back of [Nakamura's] head" sounds perfectly legal within an MMA fight. Unless there were rules banning strikes to a downed opponent, Alexey's kick was legal, and therefore, reason for the ref to think Nakamura was in trouble. I'm not saying the decision should stand, just that the ones protesting don't seem have sound reasoning. If this was a K1 fight, they would, but if that were true, Nakamura wouldn't have had a hope in hell anyway. The part about Nakamura saying he was fine after the kick is pretty funny, too. "It knocked me right on my ass, but it didn't hurt a bit!"
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Soccer kicks were allowed, and I don't think there were 10 counts either (although some orgs have them for MMA fights).
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted January 1, 2004 New Japan is trying to spin it as a screw job, and Stuart is likely just passing their story along. We'll see what happens. Here are the results for the PRIDE show. Yoshida/Royce went to a draw thanks to the genius idea of having no refferee or doctor stopages. It could only end with either Kohsaka or Royler throwing in the towel for his fighter, and neither did. Hopefully they'll blow off this feud soon so Yoshida can fight Silva again. Sakuraba losing to little Nog is a bit despressing. Overall, looks pretty enjoyable.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2004 RESULT! Via Dur Meltzenstein INOKI BOM BA YE This show is starting in just a few minutes. Rene Rooze b Tadao Yasuda :52 ref stop from punches from the mount Lyoto b Rich Franklin 1:03 of second round via knockout Aleksander Emelianenko b Angelo Araujo. If anyone has details of this, let me know. I just know Araujo was bleeding. Doc or ref stopped. Semmy Schilt vs. Josh Barnett is now in the third round. Sounds like a great match so far. Barnett got an armbar at 4:48 to keep the Pancrase title. Very exciting. Tatsumi Fujinami b Antonio Inoki in an unannounced pro wrestling match. I'm not making this up. Michael McDonald b Hiromi Amada via 2nd round knockout in :46 in a K-1 rules match. Stefan Leko KO'd Kazunari Murakami quickly under K-1 rules. Fedor Emelianenko KO'd Yuji Nagata in 1:02. These last two matches have really made New Japan look bad. Fujita is next and the feeling is right now that he has to win. Fujita saved the day beating Imamu Mayfield in the second round via a sleeper backbreaker combination submission. Fujita would only get 20 seconds on the ground before being stood up, which is why the fight lasted as long as it did. Amar Suloev b Din Thomas via ref stoppage at 4:22 Alistair Overeem b Tomihiko Hashimoto via quick knockout PRIDE SP Quinton Jackson b Ikuhisa Minowa via ref stoppage in round two Heath Herring b Giant Silva - choke at 3:05 of round three. Hayato Sakurai b Daijyu Takase via decision. Murilo Ninja b Akira Shoji with a high knee in the first round Goldberg and Naoya Ogawa had a pull-apart in a big angle for 1/4 Royce Gracie drew Hidehiko Yoshida. Gracie dominated and would have won the decision. First round even, second definitely went to Royce. Royce screwed himself by demanding no judges. Gary Goodridge b Don Frye in :39 with high kick. People were stunned by this, because people in Japan don't know how badly beaten up Frye is. Daniel Gracie b Wataru Sakata with an armbar Yuki Kondo b Mario Sperry via blood stoppage after knees Kiyoshi Tamura b Ronny Sefo by armbar in first round Antonio Rogerio Nogueira b Kazushi Sakuraba via unanimous decision in an exciting match K-1 DYNAMITE Kristof Midoux b Tom Howard Genki Sudo b Butterbean (well, that's a relief) Masayuki Naruse b Jan Nortje (finally a pro wrestler wins) Predator b Mauricio Silva in 13 seconds Yusuke Fujimoto b Francois Botha (No details other than a decision, but a former heavyweight champion boxer losing to a kickboxing prelim guy) Francisco Filho b Toa the Samoan Beast via split decision Ernesto Hoost b Montanha Silva via unanimous decision Yoshihiro Nakao b David Khakhaleichivili when Dave tapped due to exhaustion. Alexey Ignashov b Shinsuke Nakamura. Whatever I wrote about the Nagata fight goes triple here. Bob Sapp b Akebono via first round Ko
