The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Oh...what the Bills need: 1. A coach that knows his ass from an offense 2. To cut Bledsoe (now...I am Bledsoe fan #1...but there is something wrong with him...and the way his contract with New England was structured...he can be CUT right now...WITHOUT A CAP HIT. Even I can see you just HAVE TO DO IT.) Sadly, that won't happen and he'll just be restructured. 3. No matter who the QB is...next year this is Travis Henry's offense. Run. Run. Run. In essence...there are 3 things the Bills do well. Run. Punt. Play Defense. I'd like to see that instead of pass, pass, pass.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Holy Crap is there a lot of future money being wasted on Antowain Smith. Think about this: 2 years from now...his cap hit will be over 4 mil more than Travis Henry's He won't be around that long. End of the season, he's done as a Patriot The Pats are very good at finding guys people would least expect to be good. The scouts on this team just seem amazing, except when it comes to running back scouting although I wish Robert Edwards had not been hurt. But no way, I will never say the word "dynasty" ever. Cause just saying it is a damn curse. You don't say it until you become it. When you become it, then you say it. The Pats fans need to stay quiet, the Patriots are not a dynasty and we don't need to say that this team is one even if they manage to win the Super Bowl this year. Just stay quiet, be quiet and if it happens then it happens. Otherwise, ssssshhhhh

Answer, he has had the crap kicked out of him for years and probably doesn't remember his own name. And when receivers drop balls like they were this year in Buffalo, he starts trying to forcefully shove the ball into the guy so he slams through his chest like a gunshot. Patriot fans want to blame Bledsoe but I watched the SUPER BOWL year and the years before that and no way was it his fault. My god, the team didn't block for him for three years and the offensive coordinator refused to call run with Bledsoe in. Theisman said it best, "when you have that arm, you just want to call passes every down and that gets Bledsoe in trouble." The Bills, from what I saw, need one wide receiver and the O-Line to stay healthy. They are fine for the most part.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 I am well versed on the book of Bledsoe, as I was a Patriot fan until Drew was dealt. "And when receivers drop balls like they were this year in Buffalo, he starts trying to forcefully shove the ball into the guy so he slams through his chest like a gunshot" Here's the rub...Drew stopped being able to hit an open man after week 2. It wasn't a question of forcing the ball...it was throwing it way over his head, at his feet, behind him...wherever he wasn't. I've said for years that Drew Bledsoe is one of the top QBs if you just focus on running the ball and then ask him to make throws when he has to. That's the problem now. In the last game of the year they brought in the THIRD STRING QB...and guess what he could do that Drew couldn't?
Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 BPS, is Travis Henry a Free Agent? I hear alot of things about him not returning with Buffalo because of you know who.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Not for awhile. Here's the funny story. The Bills draft Travis in the second round 3 years ago. He signs a 4 year deal (at second round money...which aint much). His first year is blah...but he shows some signs of being something. The next year he runs for over 1400 yards despite being in an offense that doesn't want to run the ball. BUT he fumbles ELEVEN times. This year...he starts off slow...gets TWO serious injuries...and STILL gets near 1400 yards despite missing time and getting less carries. He seems to have the fumbling fixed until the last couple weeks of the season when it comes back. Now...this should be his last year. But he SPENT ALL OF HIS MONEY and needed to sign a bad extension just to get a small signing bonus so he could make it to training camp this year. That added another year at 1 million dollars. So...he has two cheap seasons left...and if Willis isn't completely broken...he'll probably be dealt after this season. He'll be a steal the first year. I'm surprised his head didn't roll down the stairs with some of the shots he took. I think he just got too damn beat up when Henry went down and when they couldn't run, he became a dead duck. Over the head, at the feet and such ARE signs he was forcing it. Plus, the team was in general destruction and only Milloy seemed to give a damn. They just laid down and fell apart. It was very disappointing as a football fan, but as a Pats fan I was laughing my rear off watching it.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Correction: He actually ended up with a couple more carries this year. I'll be damned if I remember how though. One of the frustrations of watching the Bills is knowing that you're always passing on 1st down, 2nd and short and 3rd and short. ALWAYS. We ran ONCE on 2nd and short this year...and Henry broke one for 65 yards. The crowd mockingly gave a standing ovation.

Sounds like they are suffering from "Bledsoe arm syndrome" This is what happened in NE and Drew took the full force of the blame. It's a damn shame cause when they ran mostly and passed after the run last season, I knew once they got a defense they would be deadly. They were doing the same thing...until week 3. What the hell happened? It was like PASS PASS PASS PUNT or actually PASS SACK SACK. I was confused and even during that second Patriots game, I was like "What the hell is Buffalo doing???" The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 That's Kevin Gilbride. My opinion is...when your Defense is #1 in the AFC. Your Special Teams coverage units are also at the top... and you finish 4 games out of contention... You should be allowed to hang your offensive coordinator. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 I'm assuming Gilbride is gone from Buffalo? Only to resurface somewhere in the NFL. Thanks to the old boys network of coaching.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Maybe I overreact. I'm just not used to seeing Bledsoe be this way. What the Bills need is to draft a speed reciever and a young QB to groom. Pick up a new Center and a DE in Free Agency. And Find a coach that can fix the offense. Most of that should be attempted at least.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Honestly. How often does the veteran QB grooming the young QB actually work? Not saying Buffalo shouldn't draft a QB, but it's proabably not a great idea to name him Bledsoe's heir apparent right away.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 What is really sad is most people can see how to fix the offense. You have to run the ball to get the heat off Drew. Like the first two games of this season before they caught Bledsoe Arm Syndrome. If you have a running game with Bledsoe, he is one of if not the most dangerous quarterback in football. I think he was just beat up this season cause about mid-season when things seemed to fall on him and only him, he seemed to start having troubles especially after Miami almost ripped his torso off. I'm still afraid of Buffalo because if that offense is corrected...with that defense....man, I don't know what can slow them down.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 I hear what you're saying Vern...but it's been so long since Buffalo had a young QB they drafted to groom. I agree on that. But I still don't see using a first round pick on one. OL and WR should be used early with QB in second or third round since that seems to be where the best ones are nowadays. Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 I thought the Pats were the #1 Defense in the AFC?
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 It's also proably not necessary to draft a WR in the first round. It's supposed to be a pretty good draft, for WR's. The Bills can proably land one in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Backing up my last post the Patriots are #1 in the NFL in Passing TD's Allowed (11), #1 in the NFL in INT's (29), #6 in the NFL in Sacks (41), #2 in the NFL in Opponents Completion Percentage (53.1%), only two Rushes of more than 20 yards allowe, 8th in the NFL in Rushing TD's Allowed (10), 4th in the NFL in rushing yards against, #2 in the NFL in Turnover Differential (+17). Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Hey Frigid, take a look at This. This too... Who's stupid? You are because you think $2.25mill is alot for a top of the line reciever. I told you he doesn't make alot. Patten will be cut because they proved they have enough depth to win without him, not to mention that knee injury will reduce him to being a slant reciever or short post out. Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Thank you Mad Dog. Face it Frigid, Brown is the #3 reciever on the depth charts right now. He's injury Prone like Patten, and both will be gone.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Miami Dolphins QB - I like Fiedler. He's tough, a leader, smart, mobile, which would be fine except for the fact that he throws interceptions at inopportune times. The Ravens showed you don't need a stud QB to win the SB, but Fiedler can be erratic at times. Maybe Ben Roethlisberger will be available? I don't see Griese as the answer. WR - Chambers is great, but need someone to compliment him. Derrius Thompson was supposed to be a big free-agent pick up from the Redskins, but it didn't pan out. Oronde Gadsden is a decent possession WR, but we need someone to take the pressure off Chambers. O-Line - Need some depth. Head Coach - ::sigh:: RE: Head Coach, when I heard the news of the extension it was like I got punched in the stomach. The guy has done nothing but proven that he is not a winner. Think about it this way, what percentage of players are still on the team (in a major role) that were on the team when he took over? It's clearly not the players, so it must be the coaching staff. This year was IMO the most talented the Dolphins have been in years and they throw up stinkers in big games while Wanny is standing on the sidelines looking like someone drugged him. I agree with you on Fiedler, he's just good enough for 10 wins (if that) but not enough to get them over the hump. Although personally I blame part of that on coaching, and part of it on the lack of WR depth.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 2, 2004 Thank you Mad Dog. Face it Frigid, Brown is the #3 reciever on the depth charts right now. He's injury Prone like Patten, and both will be gone. This is the first year he's been injured, how does that make him injury prone?! Right now the depth chart is Brown Branch Givens Johnson Ward They're just going to restructure his deal in the off-season...give him a couple more years and spread out the signing bonus more. Its said that even Brady is going to restructure. As far as limitations go the only thing Brown has going aginst him is his height. He's got great hands, runs perfect routes, breakaway speed still, breaks tackles...but you want to get rid of him?
