John Titor: Time Traveller!

Recommended Posts

I thought the folks here might find this page entertaining...

http://www.johntitor.com

Back in the beginning of November of 2000, a guy began posting on a board that he was a time traveller from 2036, telling this story about how there was a civil war, etc, and his mission was to... well, best read the archives of his posts on that site, it'll all do a better job of explaining.

Anyways, it sounds like bull, but the guy was at least very consistent and seemed really intelligent (talking in depth about subjects like PHysics and such). He also made several general predictions, including ones about Mad Cow outbreaks in the US, that there would be a security/civil liberties conflict in the United States, eventually leading to some kind of civil war in 2004/2005, among lots of other stuff. It was all detailed enough to the point where its still being talked about today on TT bboards.

Nah I dont realy believe that he was a time traveller (lol), but it was kind of creepy to see him talk about some of the stuff he did, because before 9/11, a lot of stuff seemed inconceivable to many of us.

At the very least, its an entertaining story and one of the most well-thought out hoaxes ever made :headbang:

Oh yeah, and he has photos and schematics of his "time machine." B-)

Hm, this is good entertainment for a few minutes...

On a somewhat related topic, I think time travel may be possible many years from now, but only to the future. Time only goes in one direction, and that is forward. To go back and change the past would probably ensure that you wouldn't be able to go back and change it in the first place. Grandfather paradox and stuff, you know.

Anyway, thanks for the fun site.

If time travel were possible my theory is that even if you could go to the past you could never change it. Whatever you tried would already be a part of history so you would just be fulfilling something.

Time Travel is THEORETICALLY possible in one direction...but you need an engine/ship that can travel at a constant speed of light for a long while...I think it's something like if you would travel out 25 light years and then back (for a total of 50 light years) ....the Earth would go through like 200 years...

Any Deep Space Nine fans will recognize the center of that instantly.

Pretty blatant clue that he was f'ing around with everyone. :) In my opinion, at least.

A hoax, but a well thought out and elaborate one.

What makes it not quite a nutjob is that it has a foothole in logic and another in complete fantasy.

If another Waco happens this year I might change my views.

Art Bell's replacement Geogre Noory has been "mind traveling" back in time through some method or another

www.coastocoastam.com has updates on it

^ it's generally thought, from what I've read, that if its a hoax, it would have to be a physicist or someone equally as "smart", since some of his physics theory (when describing how his "time machine" works) have turned out to be true. I've also read that he actually predicted some "new" physics developments (between March of 2001 which was his last post and now), but I cant really verify that, since I haven't really gone searching for that particular topic (I was more interested in the social/government parts of the story). One thing is for sure, this wasn't some 16 year old "l33t h4x0r" B-)

Maybe some dude working on expiremental physics wanted to do a social expirement? the internal consistancy is what really seems to throw some people off.

Shit that stuff is creppy...and I too will shit a brick if there's a Civil War...then probably take a gun to my head. That's not the future I want to be living in.

I'd just like to say, VERY interesting site indeed. It's certainly a good way to pass time, and it opens the mind up to the realm of all possibilities. Now I've got three seperate windows open about Titor, and some others who claim to have been involved with him, namely Charlie.

Due to the beginning of school, it'll take me a few days to sort through all of this, but it seems to be worth it. It's quite entertaining, at the very least.

Thanks for posting! :)

My money is on some physicist with a sense of humor much like our own. If I had that kind of knowledge (and time), there's a good chance I'd sit down and prank a bunch of internet nerds.

What? There's a sweet joy in working your own kind sometimes.

Ok, so I couldn't sleep last night after reading all that shit...cold sweats and just...bad bad thoughts. I think it has to be just a prank though, some things seem too contrived. Haven't stopped thinking about it since I read all of that though. Scary scary stuff.

Seriously. This alone should let you rest easy at night, people. It's fake. All of it. Unless the inventor of the time machine was a massive fan of Major Kira Nerys and the Bajoran Resistance.

I actually thought about this in class for a little while today instead of actually paying attention. While traveling into the future may be possible, traveling into the past may be as well - but changing things would not be. Just like in A Christmas Carol: Scrooge was able to see into the past, but no matter what he did, he couldn't change a thing. I think, if one traveled into the past, he could LOOK at the things going on, yet could not communicate with anybody or move anything.

Once again, if we're using the forum here as an example. If one enters a locked thread, they can see what was said before. Yet, they can not comment on it and can not have an effect on the future of the thread. In the past, one can enter it and actually observe what's happening. But they can not have an effect on it. It's as if they're not even there.

At least that's my opinion on time travel into the past.

As for John Titor, it's a hoax. But it's a very good hoax.

I'm having way too much fun reading this, almost forgot it's a hoax, but if I was an American I'd start to look out for a 5 year old John Titor NOW

Jeez, I never thought of that. If there IS a John Titor somewhere, I'm sure he gets at least a couple of calls a day from obsessed people. It must suck to be getting these freaky calls, especially if you had nothing to do with the plot. Now I have serious wonders if a John Titor actually exists in Florida, or anywhere else in America.

So if time travel were only possible going forwards in time that would mean you could never get back...which would suck. Who would be willing to do that? Especially if they got stuck in a hell hole future.

So...the person would travel back in time...but be completely intangible and mute? What would even be the point, then? And if you were completely intangible, wouldn't you fall to the center of the earth?

I generally don't buy time travel, on the simple basis that time is a conception of man; It's only measurable by things we made up, like hours and minutes. I don't think it's something you can interact with - I mean, space is just a lot of nothing, but it's still something you can interact with. You can look up into the sky and see it. If you had enough cash, you could fly into it.

Time is nothing. It's just something we dreamed up to explain why right now isn't right then, methinks.

Time travel would be dangerous....what if you tried to go forward into a time that doesn't exist?

I'm saying this from the idea of the world ending and judgment day. I guess your time machine would just stop and go "error" or something.

Now as far as going back in time. Anything that you change might keep you from ever going back in the first place...thus negating any change you made. Or it will cause the time machine to never be built.

A domino effect...you change one thing and it keeps you from ever being in the right place and time to go back in time.

I think someone already said it earlier, but if you go back in time, logic would suggest that anyhting you change would already have accounted for itself in the future before you go back.

You think that's confusing consider the center of a black hole.

It has something like 100x the mass of the sun yet it's nothing. Nothing. Can you fathom nothing? Don't point at the air and say "Nothing" because that's something. It's got molecules in it. Kind of hard to fathom nothing........isn't it?

I can't even wrap my mind around the concept. How the fuck would you go about studying something about that?! It defies all sense of logic! :bonk:
