AS is obviously uninformed of the true nature of college sports, so let's just ignore him.

Dama, I would have read that first post, but you've gotta break it up into paragraphs or something.

Well, then inform me.

I see "third best team" I see "failure" explain why not.

First off, third out of 117 is very good,

Yeah, it's almost the best.

Almost.

They still blew it when it mattered.

Spoiled Yankee fans who cry about not winning the WS every year and cry that they haven't won it all in ::gasps:: 3 yrs.

Try liking a team where a playoff apperance has become more of a pipedream and then you can bitch about your team failing.

I was a Yankee fan the 80s.

I still consider '95 to be a disaster.

What?

Most Yankee fans jumped on board about the mid-90s. You'd be damned to find anyone who liked the Yankees of the 80s/early 90s.

Oh yeah...I've heard numerous reports that the LSU fans were acting like drunken ruffians after the Sugar Bowl. Imagine what they would've done had LSU lost....there would've been a riot.

They did have cops escort the Sooners off the field after the game though.....I guess to keep the fisticuffs down.........

Believe me, the scene was nothing out of the ordinary... Know why LSU has night games if at all possible? To give the fans more time to get boozed up and rowdy before the games, not for them to be dangerous as much as intimidating. I believe the motto of the LSU tailgaters is "First we'll show you how to party, then we'll show you how to lose."

The only time in recent memory that I can remember the fans being particularly ugly was in the 1998 season when everyone went in thinking "national championship" and ended up 4-7. The next year, coach Gerry Dinardo went 2-8 before being canned, at which point the players started giving a damn again and whupped SEC West champ Arkansas 35-10 to finish the season.

Also bear in mind that with college sports, you're likely to root for your alma mater (if you are or have gone to college anyway) no matter their record. Hell, I went to Kent State University, and there is no way in hell they'll ever win a national championship under the current system. You expect me to root against them for that reason?

I really do feel bad for you, AS. I mean, Dames is a diehard Yankee fan too, and I've never heard of him coming into one of these threads and going "We lost, so the entire season was a waste." My cousin's husband is a diehard Yankee fan and he gets disgusted when they're not playing well, but he doesn't bitch and moan because they didn't go 162-0 and run the table in the playoffs.

Be mad at your team for playing like shit and losing, that's fine. But if you want to be mad at your team for doing their best and still losing, then try out for the goddamn team yourself. You seem to want it more than even Steinbrenner does, and we all know Steinbrenner doesn't accept losing either.

Oh, and to get to the actual topic, yeah, fans like that suck, Damaramu. I'm one of those fans who will bitch when my teams play like shit and don't play hard, but when my team plays their best and still loses, it's not that big a deal. Any given team on any given night and all that.

I wasn't proud of that mess of an era, but they were still my team. I love baseball, I love going to baseball games, and I love the Yankees. Sure, they were certainly cursed out by me many a time. But still, they were my team.

'95 was a fun year.

Fuck you.

So then Teke what do you think would've happened had OU won that game?

Or more importantly.....what if OU had totally dominated that game?

Do you think there would've been a riot?

And yes one of the reasons I root for the Sooners is because I go to that school. If I didn't I would probably hate them. I have a weird history in sports of hating anyone that is the best. Yes they weren't the best this year but they certainly looked like it during the season. I probably would've been like "Damn those Sooners won again!" and then after they lost to K-State I would've been like "HAHA! Take that fuckers!"

It's just how I've always been. If I didn't go to OU I'd probably root for a team that can almost win but doesn't do it. Like Oklahoma Stare or Kansas State.

But if you want to be mad at your team for doing their best and still losing,

I missed that part.

Are you trying to imply that the Yanks put effort into the Series this year?

Or are you just saying that in general?

I think a team that makes it to the top and then doesn't give a damn or try is worse than a team that goes loses more than they win.

You know who had the best winning percentage in the 80s? The Yankees.

You know who never accomplished anything in the 80s? The Yankees.

Why do you think it's considered the black eye decade in post-Ruthian Yankee history?

In general, mostly. Hell, if the Yankees could have hit even .200 with runners in scoring position, they probably would have won the Series this year.

That's one thing about fans that annoys me. Competitive sports are extremely difficult. Not performing well is NOT the result of lack of effort. They just didn't connect. The best hitters only get hits 30-40% of the time. Are they not trying the other 60%?

What about the 800 errors? The bullpen? Weaver in general?

There may have been assorted fights or some objects thrown at the OU team if they were taunting, but there would not have been a full-scale riot. LSU's fans have a nasty reputation but seem to be on the way to recovery. I think they also wouldn't want to take a VERY public opportunity to get painted with the same brush as West Virginia's fans, who burn couches when they win a big game or have a near-miss against then-#2 Miami.

It's good to talk to a reasonable LSU fan about this game. Since I've heard all the insight from Sooner fans I can take.

What did you think of OU's second half performance? Defensively that is. Because LSU couldn't even get a first down in the second half. I believe this game was won by LSU's defense. Do you agree?

Oh and.........what'd you think about that kid from LSU getting Tommy Harris's autograph? I thought it was kind of cool but I figured the kid believed Harris would be a big time NFL player one day so he wanted to say he beat Harris and got his autograph. :P

OU's second half performance on D was good, although it takes a little shine off of that accomplishment when you realize that LSU's offense is flaky at best. Whenever they were up against a quality team like Florida, Georgia, or Ole Miss this season, they had trouble getting started offensively. The only one of those games to really break open was the second Georgia game, as LSU took over early after a Georgia turnover and never looked back.

The other games were tight throughout and completely saved by LSU's defense.

As for OU's offense, it certainly picked up in the fourth quarter much like Ole Miss and Eli Manning did earlier this year. At the end of the day, though, the LSU defense stopped hard drives to seal the game.

As for OU's offense, it certainly picked up in the fourth quarter much like Ole Miss and Eli Manning did earlier this year. At the end of the day, though, the LSU defense stopped hard drives to seal the game.

The thing that perplexed me the most was this.......

LSU's defense was starting to get a little gassed and they were becoming a little unable to stop the running game. As a matter of fact OU made it all the way down the field off the runs that Jones made.

However when the game is on the line what do they do? They throw it 4 straight times. That was a very poor decision.

Because I think it they'd made that TD they could've won overtime. There defense had been able to stop LSU from sniffing the endzone. They could've shut them down and then probably made it to the endzone off the run themselves and won the damn game.

That was a very poor coaching decision. A reason why Saban outcoached Stoops that night.

But knowing the poor decisions they would've made the TD and tried to end it there with a 2-pt conversion.....and failed.

Well Stoops admitted that LSU was the best defense he's face since he started coaching.

Which brings me to another secret of beating OU. Get ahead on them. People call them "The Mighty Sooners" because well they are like a Mighty Giant that crushes everything. But that giant doesn't know pain. And when it feels pain it curls up and dies. Think of it. The 2 games where the Sooners have really been down this year they have failed to perform.

That's one of the tricks to beating OU.....get ahead of them and they die.

Do you let a retard guard the nuclear plant, knowing terrorist are going to attempt to attack it?

It's not really fair to use that comparison.

A retard has not proven himself capable of guarding the plant.

Jeff Weaver, since he made it to the majors, proved that he was, at some point good at something (What, I'll never know)

It was more like putting Homer Simpson in charge. Someone technically qualified, but not reliable.

He didn't have too many other options.

It created a fairly decent rivaliry... outside of the fact that the M's organization are pussies and won't let fans where Yankees Suck t-shirts.
