Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted January 11, 2004 When two good teams battle in those elements, it won't be perfect. Besides, it was a well played game. And I hope the Pats DEMOLISH the Colts. Although it will probably be a close game. Sure. It was a game of survival. The game in Green Bay last week wasn't as cold, but the weather was frigid. Both played a very strong game.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 11, 2004 FrigidSoul, if Brady takes a few seconds to kneel, why can't someone knock him on his ass? isn't that part of football? If he doesn't go down himself, he'll get put on his ass. Its football. Just because its expected that he'll kneel and takes his time doesn't make him free of getting tackled. Ok....read this slowly then read it again. Brady stood there for 3 seconds, then kneeled Refs blew the whistle to indicate the play dead Offensive line started moving back to their next spot As Brady went to get up from kneeling position a Titans defensive lineman forarmed him and pushed him to the ground. Also, even when healthy Eddie George couldn't run against this defense...look at his week 5 stats. I'm pissing you off because I'm breaking down everything you say and pointing out things you can't deny...now you go to the "if they weren't injured" line...if Roosevelt Colvin, David Patten, and Mike Compton weren't on IR the game would have been different. You deal with injuries...Titans don't have the depth we do. Better team won...and I don't think the Colts beat the Chiefs later today personally...but if they do we'll be happy to slam Peyton down a few times for ya. I doubt we are talking about the same play. I am talking about the 2nd down kneel after the run. He hiked the ball stood there for three seconds and as he went to kneel he was hit...then the whistle blew when he went down. Don't act like a fucking arrogant shitface, man. There's a reason why a penalty wasn't called on the play. Brady took the shot because he was standing was trying to waste extra time - what are the Titans supposed to do - stand there with their cocks in their hands? of course they are going to hit him. And they did. And no penalty was called. The refs called EVERYTHING on the Titans that was remotely close to being an infraction, if this was such a grave injustice, I'm sure ONE of the officials on the play would have thrown a flag. Quit acting like such a fuckup, its really beggining to make this thread, or this sports folder, look like shit. People on other boards are even complaining about you acting like a piece of shit. So just chill out, learn to be civil, be open to others beliefs, and everything shall be fine.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 11, 2004 Watch the replays, he had already kneeled. That's why Jeff Fisher came running half out and yelling at his defense. And if the refs called everything and anything on the Titans then how about those 2 delay of games at the start that they were allowed to get away with? I'm not going to let off my stance so people will like me...which reminds me of a famous Homer Simpson saying "Oh look, I'm making people HAPPY...I'm the magical man from gumdrop laaaaAaaaane...by the way, I was being sarcastic!" I don't see other people complaining about me(other than ANKLELOCK), and I'm not being arrogant...I went over what happened smoothly. Watch the replays, that's all I say. Also in regards to the Titans besides that one pussy-esque play I give their defense alot of credit, however Eddie George was doing nothing and they should have kept giving it off to Chris Brown(I believe that's the other back's name) as he was actually getting me a little antsy. McNair should have come out for a few plays too when he became McHobble...his own pride cost his team.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 11, 2004 I'd also like to ask when is it legal for a QB to get forarmed to the head, as that's where he was hit. Before, after, regardless that right there is roughing the passer.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2004 <<<<<<<<<< And Go Colts. I want Manning/Favre as the Super Bowl showdown so I my head can explode whilst being torn between my pro team and the guy who's still identified with my college team. Not to mention that it'd make for a LOT of smack-talk when watching the Super Bowl at my grandfather's house with my father, since they'll root for a Tennessee alumnus over anyone. EDIT: As for today, the Panthers/Rams game rocked it and I'm mad the Patriots won, but only because I'll have to hear about it from the girl I'm seeing (she loves all the Boston teams)... 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2004 (edited) NFL rules say it is illegal to hit a quaterback in the head. I don't care WHO the qb is, that is an illegal play. And according to NFL rules, if a qb is going down for a slide or knee you are NOT allowed to make contact with him as he is ending the play. It doesn't matter if it's Tom Brady or Steve McNair or Ty Detmer, it's an illegal hit. He could run around for 10 seconds, if he goes to a knee you are NOT allowed to make contact. I'd like to say, I didn't watch the game until this morning. I slept, I recorded and then I watched. The Titans played a hard game as did the Patriots and it was an old fashioned smack in the mouth game. I enjoyed it and thought it was just a good defensive battle. The Titans, with all the injuries they have, played just outstanding and almost came away with a win. NE asked their defense to save them and once again it did. The Pats, just like EVERY team in the playoffs this year have the pieces to go to the Super Bowl. Do I think they will? I don't know, even as a Pats fan I don't know cause asking a team to win 14 straight to get to the Super Bowl is a hard task. I do know if the game ends up NE vs CAR, that it'll be a "boring" old school trench war. Personally, I would love that game just for the defense battle. Either way, great game. Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2004 These Pats remind me of the 70's Steelers with a bit of the 80's 49ers mixed in. They are not a flashy win team, plain and simple, which is unfortunately why I believe so many people seem to hate them Also, it was three years between Joe Montana's first and second Super Bowl wins (he didn't churn them out one after another, remember), so I think the Tom Brady parallel could still be drawn
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2004 Colts vs Chiefs should be a good shoot out with Peyton vs Trent/Priest. Packers vs Eagles should be good too though I have a feeling that the Pack will win pretty easily.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2004 If (deities forbid) the Packers should win, then I wonder... how many times (if ever) have the #1 and #2 seeds in the same conference lost in their first (and only) postseason game, thus sending the higher winning seed back to their home field? She wouldn't be as upset, because while being a Boston teams fan, her fandom is proportional to the buzz around the team and how close they are to success. The ALCS was a huge story all over from Game 4 onward, so she was into it big. I guess you could call her a fairweather Boston fan. I know I said I wanted Colts/Packers as a fan, but from the perspective of someone who knows this girl, I want Patriots/Packers so I could talk endless smack. I've wanted a good opportunity since she said "but why like the Packers?" Either way, I'd rather have silence than "WE KICKED YOUR ASS!" She'll probably confuse the college Tennessee and the pro team and think that my favorite team lost last night.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2004 I'll say something right now also, I'm not saying the Packers win because of the "OMG GOD IZ GUIDING THERE TEAM AND THEY'LL RAWK DA EAGLEZ~" reasoning that a lot of you use (which supposedly comes from commentators but I have yet to hear other than the occasional "his father is watching him" comment). Whatever the reason is, the Packers are doing what it takes in the NFL to win a title anymore, getting hot at just the right time. I'm not going to say Favre is going to beat the Eagles (because I hate saying a single person's name instead of a whole team), I'm saying that the whole team is going to beat the Eagles. After that, I get to heckle all of the Carolina yokels around here again as Green Bay owns Carolina yet again. Oh, and the Colts win today too in a shootout. To answer my own question after I did the research, it only happened in 1987 (though there was only one wildcard game at this time rather than two) Wildcard winner Minnesota upset the #1 seed San Fransisco and #3 Washington (eventual SB winner) beat #2 Chicago
