Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 Yeah, that was officially announced awhile back as I recall. I don't think a poster for it makes it anymore official. If that is what the "Ahem" was referring to.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Yeah, that was officially announced awhile back as I recall. I don't think a poster for it makes it anymore official. If that is what the "Ahem" was referring to. The "ahem" was because no one seemed to post. I know it was announced, but a poster and all just makes it that much more official, as cards are always subject to change. YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT AFTER YOU MADE A POSTER!~ Besides, the poster looks pretty good in my opinion.
Guest NCJ Report post Posted January 29, 2004 That poster kicks a Jet Li in Fist of Legend amount of ass. I would buy the poster alone. Why haven't any of the UFC games had a cover like that. These first two shows of 2004 for the UFC are just incredible. P.S. Rudo, Your Paragon of Virtue, or anyone else knowledgeable in mma on this board, if you have some free time please come over to the MMAWeekly.com board a teach a couple of Pride chumps why this card is so incredible. I love Pride, and I know most of you do as well, but there is a level of stupidity that just can't be tolerated from supposedly informed fans of the sport. These guys actually had the nerve to start a thread about UFC 46 being a weak card.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 *marks out for FOL reference* I'd love to come over, but I gotta work on FAFOTD and a UFC 46 column for the site.
Guest NCJ Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Fist of Legend is my favorite Jet Li movie ever, and one of the best martial arts films I have ever seen. I understand the time constraints totally Rudo. I was wondering are those two columns for this site? If so stay hard at work and I look forward to reading the UFC column. I would say both of them, but for the life of me I can't figure out what FAFOTD stands for.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Fight and Fighter of the Day or "Faffohtduh" It's what I'm doing here (I'll try to get Penn/Hughes up today, and another match up tomorrow) The UFC preview is for this site, yes. Look for it tomorrow (hopefully) And I totally agree, FOL is my favourite kung-fooey type movie. Just bad ass fight scenes (The school, the blindfold, the end battle~!) Guest NCJ Report post Posted January 30, 2004 That entire movie is cinematic Kung fu profection. I was only midly impressed with Jet until then. After watching that film he can basicly do anything that he wants to and I would still love him. I really can't wait for your UFC preview.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2004 --A few UFC notes for tomorrow. Carlos Newton just arrived last night to Las Vegas. He had visa problems getting into the country. He had been using a student visa for years, but after a big national news feature on him was done in Canada, when he tried to get across the border, people recognized him as a fighter and it was feared he wouldn't make the show. He and Renato Verissimo have agreed to fight at 175 pounds because of the stress on Newton making it hard to make 170. Randy Couture showed up with an abrasion underneath his eye, suffered in training. While Wes Sims has talked about Bill Goldberg being in his corner, if that's the case, it's a well kept secret at UFC because nobody seems to know. Vitor Belfort is said to be completely different than ever before. He has a tendency to get very nervous before a big fight, but he's totally calm, and nobody knows, or will know until about a minute into the fight, if that's a good thing or a bad thing. The Matt Hughes vs. B.J. Penn fight has become a lot bigger among the fighters themselves. Penn trained with Team Quest in Oregon for this fight. As the story goes, during training he was able to submit Couture and knock out Matt Lindland. Lindland, who is both bigger and a better wrestler than Hughes, said that Penn was very difficult to take down, and impossible to keep down. Penn is the better striker. Couture was telling people when he first heard about Hughes vs. Penn, he thought Hughes would win, but after training with Penn, he's got a different opinion now. *jaw drops*
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted January 31, 2004 I'm not buying that. I mean Penn is a guy who couldn't really overpower Caol Uno, and now he's throwing Randy around (something Tito couldn't manage). I know he has added weight, but he is surely going to be weaker than Hughes. And submitting a pal in training means nothing. Hughes is gonna murder him. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2004 It said nothing about Penn "throwing" them around. It said he tapped Couture (He wouldn't be the first, nor the worst, to do so) and KO'd Linland - Busta did it and Busta is not that much bigger than BJ. They said he was hard to takedown which could mean a great sprawl or just being quick to avoid the shoot. And due to his small(er) size and flexibility, he had more mobility on his back to escape and get up. Of course, Team Quest could have been taking it easy on him due to his small size and underestmated him (Coutures quote would give that merit). What I don't buy is him beating Hughes

Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2004 Some odd things happen in training, not all of which should be taken too seriously. Perfect example: Before their fight, Matt Lindland & Ivan Salaverry had trained together, with Ivan tapping Matt out at will. Fast foward to thier fight, where Matt avoids Ivan's sub attempts and wins a JD.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 I'd like to just say that I am incredibly pissed right now due to my cable company pulling the "you can't get PPV without digital cable" card without fucking informing us of that. Hektik 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Wow, that was a huge let down. I am glad Vitor won but it leaves an empty feeling. Hopefully they can get a rematch put together really quickly.
Guest BrokenWings Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Wow, that was a huge let down. I am glad Vitor won but it leaves an empty feeling. Hopefully they can get a rematch put together really quickly. Yeah, that pretty much sums up my feeling as well. As the announcer noted though, Vitor believes heavily in the Lord, and "Maybe this is God's way of saying, with everyone going on in Vitor Belfort's life right now, maybe this fight needs to take place at another time." Still..
