Guest Anglesault Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Yeah fuck you Clemens for years of loyalty LOYALTY? Mattingly was loyal. Paulie was loyal. Roger faked retired and then went off to play for another team. He can take his Yankee HOF plaque and stick it up his ass.
lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 I mean is he not allowed to change his mind. Hell, he's getting paid 5 million dollars to pitch near his home where he can be close to his family, how can you blame the guy. Why should he have to stay retired and stay loyal to the Yankees, when he is probably doing this for his family and himself. If he cared about winning another ring he would have stayed in New York. LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Why should he have to stay retired Because he went on a retirement tour. I agree....you can't help but feel cheated and ripped off with all of those standing ovations including Boston. If he had any class he would give the Hummer back that his former Yankee teammates got him as a going away gift.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 13, 2004 yes, my sources...this one being turning on the TV a few days ago and listening to Tim Kurkjian on ESPN News. dumbass Dumbass? Funny...the sports radio station here in Houston, in regards to how much Clemens will pitch, just said, according to sources deep within the team, that Clemens is a full-fledged member of the team, and he will make ALL road trips (I guess the only possible exceptions being a three-game trip that he isn't scheduled to pitch on, though that hasn't been said). Don't be so quick to spout off like that. What Tim Kurkjian said a few days ago means nothing. well you could have chimed in with that rather than trying to call me out. I say what I hear, and that's what I heard.

Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 To be fair, KC thinks that Clemens sucks, no matter what team he plays for. Although Houston is one of my favorite NL teams, along with the Cubs
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 For the most part Clemens is only going to be pitching at home, that's why he signed. Where'd you hear that? Your "sources" again? There is no indication that that is actually the case. Regardless, I still don't think this gets the Astros over the top. They've still done nothing to address the holes in their line-up, or their below-average defense. Their offense was pretty inconsistent last year (i.e. score 15 runs one game and then 2 runs in each of the next three), and I don't see that changing, really. Bagwell and Biggio are a year older now, too, and Bagwell's shoulder is only getting worse. Starting pitching was a problem for the 'Stros last year, and it is definitely upgraded now, but I don't know...I just don't see this being a championship club. And the Astros are screwing themselves long-term, financially. Deferring $3.5 mil of Clemens' contract, along with all the deferred money they owe just to Kent, Bagwell, and Pettitte and their hands will be tied in 2005-06 and beyond. Makes me wonder if Drayton McLane isn't planning on selling the team soon. He's made several comments here with the Pettitte/Clemens signings that he hopes to get fans in the seats, yet nothing about actually winning a title. Sounds like a hell of a business plan to me...sign all these guys, get attendance up, and sell the team before you actually have to pay any of that money out. I've heard rumors that McLane IS thinking of selling the Astros. But those may just be rumors.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 I don't like Clemens. Never have, never will (even when he was with the Jays). Now he's coming to the city where I work... that's just bloody lovely. I was actually interested in the Astros for a minute until he signed. Now, I don't give a fuck again. I never thought I'd see the day when a the Jays put themselves at equal hatred as the Yanks/Sawx hate. Here in NY, we tend not to care about Toronto. There was a lot of hate in NYC back when the Jays were a contending team (unless I misheard the chants at Yankees/Jays games). But the Jays were never the same after the strike, and now that they're a "fiscally responsible team" (whatever that means in baseball), they really aren't much of a threat to the Yankees, thus no hate. But if the Jays were to once again become viable contenders, the hate would be back in full force. They knows their baseball in the Bronx, even if their team is evil. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Did you see the press conference? The first words out of Clemens' mouth: "If you don't have season tickets, you should probably get them now." What a cocky asshole. I hope Piazza does throw his bat at Clemens, then claim he thought it was the ball. BTW, this is why I hate the concept of putting guys in the All-Star Game just because it's their supposed final season.

Wait ... there's still a team in Toronto? Who knew?!? And if I wasn't so lazy, I'd dig through the archives and bump all those threads when it was Sox fans bashing Clemens and the NYY fans sucking his cock. Now that he's pissed on your team, can you guys see why we think he's such an asshole in Boston?
Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Can someone show me footage of the press conference Roger held when he retired? He said he felt this would be it, that he would retire after the season. Well when the season was over and Roger hadn't retired, did anyone think in there head, "well maybe he's looking around"? He gave us years of good pitching and was part of championship teams, I'm not going to hate him because he went somewhere else. What do I look like a Red Sox fan?.... NYU 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Taken straight from the New York Post today: Roger's Quotes: March 1999: "I want to be a Yankee for life." October 28th, 1999: (After winning world series clincher from Braves) "I think I finally became a Yankee" April 2000: "I want to retire a Yankee." December 20th, 2002: "I don't anticipate playing past this year....I plan on going out the right way, like I always have, full-throttle. I want to win another championship. I enjoy those parades." June 2003: "I want to go in the Hall of Fame as a Yankee" October 4th, 2003 "I've accomplished everything there is to accomplish." October 21st, 2003: (Prior to Game 4 of the World Series) "I know that tomorrow will be my last start in the Majors." January 12th, 2004: "I don't know that I even did change my mind. It was just there, it was so good to do this." ---------------------------------------------------- Listen, just admit the man is a whore for publicity and a whore for money and we can move on. Fortunately, many Yankee fans have now realized what Jays, Red Sox, and Mets fans have known for years: The guy is just an asshole and only cares about himself. And for those that say he did this for his kids.....wouldn't STAYING HOME be what his kids want? I'm sure they'll be real appreciative while their dad is away on a 7-day roadtrip - AGAIN. He didn't even do this for his family! They don't need the money, and they don't need the fame. He did this to feed his own ego, and it's surprising that some people refuse to accept that. Hell, whatever. I'm happy Roger signed on with a National League ballclub. Because, as someone said before, now he'll have to hit. And if the Mets don't get him, somebody will. Which is what they call justice after all.

Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted January 13, 2004 It's funny, I just can't seem to remember Roger retiring. If someone doesn't retire, there not retired, and can shop themselves around, which he did, just like any other pitcher would have. But yeah, hate Clemens, and lets love A-rod for being such a stand up guy.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 In his defense, when he left Boston he said that he wanted to play closer to home. He just didn't mention that he'd have two extended stops while on his way there, and that it'd take almost a decade for it to happen. I thought he was a dick when he was on the Red Sox, and I think that he's a dick now. Fuck Clemens.
Guest cpac Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Clemens can now join Pettite and they both can go fuck themselves. Clemens just pissed on having his number retired by the yankees, future yankee stadium celebrations and any chance he had into going into the hall of fame as a yankee. Fuck you clemens I pray to god that you stink the joint up like the way you did against boston and the marlins in the playoffs. You almost cost your team the pennant and you cost your team the world series. Fuck you old man.

This choice doesn't change whether or not he goes into the Hall as a Yankee or not ... the league decides that. The other stuff I'll give you, but the team he represents in the Hall isn't affected by his un-retirement. And why the Pettite hatred? The way that he left was fine. The first time he steps into the batter's box and people start hitting him, or even just buzzing him, he'll be rattled for the rest of the year, and be known in Houston Astros history as the 5 million dollar bust. Hell, once it starts up, he may even retire midseason. Take the money and run... Welcome to the senior circuit, fuckwad. I'm gonna enjoy watching you dance. Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted January 13, 2004 I just wish the Mets had someone who can actually throw the ball hard enough to dent that fat ass of his. Maybe he'll be fool enough to throw at Barry's body armor elbow pad (again) on a day when Schmidt's pitching for the Giants. That'll be fun... Somebody will get him. And we can all share it.
