Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 I swear I downloaded some other version of this song, because I hear two voices. I know my headphones are bad, but it sounds like a guy is singing this too. No, don't ask me why I downloaded Carly Simon. But, really, I know there's no men singing in this song. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Didn't Mick Jagger do backup vocals for it?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted January 13, 2004 which is why so many people are adament the songs about him
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Yes, Jagger did background vocals. You have to listen hard to pick him out though, so I'm guessing your distorted headphones just brought him out more. The lead candidates on who the song is about include Jagger, Warren Beatty, Cat Stevens, James Taylor and Kris Kristofferson. My money is on Beatty. The lyrics are very slick and coy. "He walked into the party like he was walking onto a yacht." Great line.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 Ok.. with my headphones.. I was thinking it was like somebody like Elton John. (Who the song probably isn't about)
Guest Frank_Nabbit Report post Posted January 14, 2004 Didn't someone pay 40,000 last year to find out who the song was about?
TSA09 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 If I'm not mistaken, I thought Carly backed out at the last minute on that.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 Pretty sure Faster Pussycat did a remake of that song too...
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 Didn't someone pay 40,000 last year to find out who the song was about? If memory serves, the winner was Brent Musberger of NBC sports who loosely knows Carly and bought the auction as a favor so she could tell someone she trusted. I have no idea whether she wound up telling him or not. I believed the auction prize was lunch with Carly, a private concert and her spilling the beans. Not sure how much Brent paid either, but it was a hefty sum.
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=214309 There's an article about it. And I was wrong, it was Dick Ebersole who got it for $50,000.

Guest hunger4unger Report post Posted January 20, 2004 I have it on good authority that the song is about Jagger.
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Then how do you explain Carly stating in the Janet Jackson sampling of You're so Vain in her one song "the apricot scarf was worn by Nick/this song is not about Mick" and she has said several times that it isn't about Mick in interviews, people just thought that because he was singing the background vocals.
