How was Chris Jericho the last WCW Champion, if Rock was holding that belt when Vince renamed it the World Championship. WWE wants us to believe the RAW title is not the WCW title, but it makes much more sense that it is a renamed WCW title. But I'm using logic and quoting events that actually happened on WWE television, so I can't be right. That site can list Goldberg as having reigns as World Champion and as WCW Champion seperately, because they have different names. It's why Rey Mysterio's profile says WWE Cruiserweight Champion (6 times) [referencing the lineage] but still lists 'WCW Cruiserweight Champion.' Wether WWE wants there to be lineage between the WCW Title and the World Champinship or not can be debated. Hasn't Flair said things on RAW like "back when I held that belt" referring to HHH's title? I agree with RRR, as far as most fans are concerned, and there's been events on WWE Television to support this, the World Heavyweight Championship IS the WCW Title.

I agree with Claydude. If the WWE was trying to make the Raw World Title separate from the WCW lineage, why use the exact (the very minor modifications excepted) belt? The WWE is trying to use the lineage of the old WCW title to lend credibility to the Raw World Title Belt.

The WWE wants us to believe that the World title on Raw is the same world title that George Hackenschmidt won in 1904. Of course we all know it is not. The only promotion that has a legitimate claim to the original world title is the NWA. But since the Big Gold Belt was used by the NWA in the 80s and then WCW in the 90s, the WWE thinks no one will notice lineage difference if they use the big gold belt.

Exactly. If the WWE wanted us to believe the the Raw title was brand new, they would have brought out a different belt.

I'd even be ok with HHH defeating Benoit once, with help from others, only to build towards a much bigger and much more important match where there "must be a winner" and no one is allowed to get involved.

This just can't happen, it would kill Benoit's heat and re-establish him as a loser. Look at what happened to Goldberg: The fans at Summerslam were RABID for him to win...the fans at Unforgiven didn't give a shit. You have to strike while the iron's hot, and holding it off one more month will just kill things for me. Why can't HHH ever lose first?

One fairly recent example of both guys coming out looking great was the Kurt/Cena feud. Kurt got the victory and Cena's face turn was set in stone when he outpopped Angle at the match itself.

It's okay if you forgot, most people can't even see him.

I must have also forgot where and when Cena was elevated through the whole deal.

Two guys looking great in a match is a whole other, more common, animal. And it wasn't what I was talking about.

1) In the buildup to the first match, build up HHH as a coward, doing everything he can to stay away from Benoit.

2) When they finally meet in the ring, have HHH just BARELY defeat Benoit, be D/Q, get counted out, or just something like that. Anything to build up that HHH is worried about Benoit, and fearfull that he is going to loose his precious World Title to him.

3) When they finally meet again, make it a straight up one-on-one match, the match to determine who is actually the best performer of the two. Ban everyone from ringside, make it so that HHH can not get counted out or D/Q, and in the end have Benoit come out on top, cleanly...finally, once and for all.

I promise you that the fans would be so excited for the moment that Benoit finally defeated HHH cleanly for the title, it would be amazing.

I see where you're coming from, but I'd rather Benoit go to RAW and win the title there, than to see this continue for months and months of Benoit trying to pester Heyman and Brock just to get a title shot.

We've seen that so many times, I'm ok with someone just going "screw it, I'm too good for you chumps anyway".

Still, as I said, I see your point and agree with it in theory.

And I would agree that *a* belt is better than no belt, but like most cynical smarks here I just can't see HHH agreeing to lay down for Benoit. Not without making the win very tainted, or making Benoit job three times to every time HHH looks the slightest bit weak.

I really don't see Benoit being elevated at all on Raw, even if he gets the strap.

Double-edged sword here. Smackdown loses one of its gems, probably for some curtain-jerk fodder, yet Raw gains an awesome worker. They're really desperate to NOT have Benoit hold the *true* World Title. I still think the best Main Event would be Benoit vs. Brock. And, if this is true, I won't get to see a Benoit title defense against Cena (would be a great feud, if booked right, and as long as Benoit retained, the first time).

Yet, they badmouth WCW or make it look terrible ANY way possible.

Maybe Raw traded Evolution for Benoit solo? One can only hope!

I wouldn't say that, a majority of the fans were happy when the 3 count was made.

That's WWE logic for ya.
