Guest OctoberBlood Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 My friend told me someone showed him this, supposed to be a proposed Jets stadium. "The stadium has been designed to harvest energy from wind, water and the sun, and, along with its retractable roof, would have walls made of solar thermal tubes and the capacity to collect and recycle rain water. The Manhattan architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates has designed an Olympic stadium that would be constructed on decking over the rail yards on the West Side from 30th to 33rd Streets. (The $800 million stadium is to be paid for by the New York Jets as its new home. But the decking and roof would be built with about $600 million from city and state funds, Mr. Doctoroff said, so that the stadium could be used for conventions and other events.) -- " Opening: 2012 http://www.stadiumsofnfl.com/future/JetsStadium.htm No idea if this is fake. Nor do I know if this has been posted yet. The search feature on this site sucks majorly.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 If it's for real, I don't understand how it would take 8 years to complete.
Guest Krazy Karter Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Looks awesome. Is NY still making bids for upcoming olympic games? That would be a deal-sealer.
Art Sandusky Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Where the heck is everyone going to park?
treble Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Seems a little extravagant for a football stadium. I mean, really, you don't need to spend over a billion dollars for a building that's only going to be used for it's main purpose 10 times a year.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Where the heck is everyone going to park? Underground~!
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 I imagine it will only be built if New York get the Olympic games. I hope London get the Olympics though!
razazteca Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 So are all of the sports teams from New Jersey moving to NYC?
Steviekick Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 So are all of the sports teams from New Jersey moving to NYC? Apparently so.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 That why it's a retractable roof, so it can be used year round. If all this natural energy stuff works like they think it will and they can operate the majority of the building with natural energy, it would be worth the price in the long run.
yankovic fan Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I think that would work out really well. Then maybe the Jets and Giants could play at home on the same day? Plus if the Yankees can afford such great talent in baseball, why can't one of the state's three football teams afford a new stadium?
Guest Krazy Karter Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 holy shit, what a target for terrorists@!! ...and rocks

I mean, really, you don't need to spend over a billion dollars for a building that's only going to be used for it's main purpose 10 times a year. Especially for a team that is considered the bastard little brother of the Giants
treble Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think football should be played in a building made out of glass that 'harvest(s) energy from wind, water and the sun' and has solar thermal tubes that are used to recycle rain water. I'd be afraid to spit on the field as it would probably end up coming out of a water fountain.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Even if that happened, It's not like it would matter...it would be recycled. Spit being recycled into water isn't much worse than our drinking water before it's filtered and suitable for consumption.
