Has there ever been a less-convincing title threat

Recommended Posts

I don't mean a one-night deal where the rookie or hometown guy gets a title shot. Has there ever been a multi-show/week feud for a company's major title, where someone who would probably struggle in the mid-card is being pushed as a legit contender?

Even during the finale to the Taker vs. Hardy feud in mid-'02, they had me halfway convinced that Jeff might nab the belt, the idea of Jeff Hardy as WWE champ notwithstanding.

Definetly, this is one of the best fueds Brocks had opponent wise, as Holly's been kept strong and with realistic reason.

He's a man on a mission, not a great wrestler, a super big man, he just has reason to want to maim Brock, and Brock knows it.

I'm pretty sure Bob Holly has been Hardcore champion multiple times, so I don't see what you find so suprising about it. When did they bring the hardcore belt back? Is it still 24/7 rules?

:)

The story's been pulled off well enough, but... it's Bob Holly. I think that's what I was trying to emphasize moreso than the booking. Big Show is getting crippled, and hiring protection, and Lesnar is running... from Bob Holly.

I don't care what his name is, if there's a reason not to be scared of a guy over 6 feet and 250 who's neck you broke in the past and is now looking to do the same to you, I'd love to hear it

No no no no...you see, that's where the thinking is mis-interpreted.

You see...Bob Holly has long, dark hair, is less muscular, and loved racing as much as wrestling.

However, when he holds up the mystic chair dipped in the river of Mississippi, and utters the phrase "By The Power Of Mobile!", he changes. Changes from average wrestler BOB Holly to tough as nails fighter HARDCORE Holly. He loses hair and hair color, but gains muscle mass.

BOB Holly couldn't take on Lesnar, but HARDCORE Holly might be able to. I mean, HARDCORE Holly has victories over Rock and Mankind...

As much as people hate on Jeff Hardy, I still believe they should have given Hardy the belt and have him drop it that SD to Kurt Angle. Then, Rock could still win it at Vengeance. It could have kept the illusion alive that ANYBODY can be WWE Champion on any given night . . . which would put more interest on matchups like Brock/Rey, HHH/Spike, ect. because 'you never know.'

a) You beat the shit out of the guy when he had a good neck

b) You've beaten the holy hell out of guy 250 pounds heavier and over a foot taller.

His neck is good now, and he has a reason to want to kill brock, unlike last time.

Who cares what size he was, he never had reason like this to go after Brock.

His neck is good now,

No, it's cleared.

It'll still be sold as a weak point and the focus of Brock's attack.

Who cares what size he was, he never had reason like this to go after Brock.

So what? Brock has already shown that he can handily beat him. The POWER OF REVENGE~! doesn't make him anyone other than the guy Brock squashed a year and a half ago.

In wrestling terms, it does.

See Hogan to Bundy.

Yes, it clearly does. Revenge is always one of the strongest basic elements of a fued.

That's not Bob Holly?

I'll be damned.

HUMAN CLONE~!

::runs around screaming and hits wall face first::

Brock was less of a pussy with the Frigging Undertaker, a four time WWF champion who had his marriage fucked with by Brock.

Think about that.

Storyline explaination: Holly is crazier than Undertaker.

BUT...

Brock didn't know for sure that he could beat Taker.

We have proof that he can beat Holly.

Mabel in 95, British Bulldog in 95 and 96 (vs. Bret, Diesel, and HBK), Faarooq at KOTR 97, I think it was... Cena at Backlash 03, Big Bossman in 99, anyone other than HBK or Goldberg vs. HHH.

I'd thought of Faarooq, but he had the Nation behind him storyline-wise, and was a WCW champ before that. I don't remember anything about the angle that brought him to a title shot, unless it was "Give the black man a chance", so I can't comment there.

You could throw Bulldog's 2000 run in there too.

Just making sure, which Undertaker Feud are you mentioning?

The first.

Bossman in 1999 and Cena at Backlash 2003 were both much more obvious, the former being the most. You knew damn well Bossman wasn't going to win the title, especially since the title feud was the #2 (and that's being generous) feud of the company at the time, which is a HUGE No-No in my book. At least Cena/Brock was built on Smackdown as important.

Big Bossman in 99.

that feud was pure genius and they put the Bossman over Kane and the Rock in an attempt to give him a chance in the mind of the fans.

Have there been any more useless and redundant topics than the Bob Holly bashing ones? I must know now damnit?! Tell me or I shall post and post and post the same old shit!

I didn't figure it'd gone unmentioned, but I only saw one Holly-related thread on the first few pages, and it was about the Hardcore Title.

And to be fair, I asked about people other than Holly. So I'm only ragging on him in a backhanded, cowardly sort of way. :)

Bob Holly has been served gold on a silver platter. He's made Big Show tap out. He never gets beat down like face challengers usually do. He's kicked out of MONSTER~! Matt Morgan's finisher. And he's made Brock pee his pants week in and week out, which no one else has been able to do since his debut.

Because of all of this, I want to know why he isn't getting the biggest pops of the night - every night. Yes, even more than Cena. Because I haven't seen a better booked face in a WWE feud in at least a couple of years.

I also think that this is kind of a waste of good booking since there has been nothing in the way of rumors of what Holly is going to do after the Rumble. Not one thing.

He's been made to look so good during the build-up to make up for the fact that he's going to be squashed in two minutes at the Rumble. And then made to job to Funaki. That's the reason right? Right?
