TNA Going Forward On PPV Plans Without Hogan

TNA Going Forward On PPV Plans Without Hogan

Promotion expecting Hogan to return to WWE...

NWA: TNA is now moving forward on plans for their big three hour Sunday night PPV, but are now assuming that Hulk Hogan will not be involved. Most TNA officials feel that Hogan is heart set on working WrestleMania XX and, in the least, won't work TNA before that show.

One theory also floating around is that Hogan used TNA to gain some leverage for his WrestleMania XX negotiations.

Some within TNA are fearing that a Sunday PPV will hurt the weekly PPVs, making them seem inferior. Despite this, the promotion is moving forward with the PPV and could air the first one this summer.

Actually they didn't include everything the Observer said. They actually said they're now pegging a date in the summer for the 3 hour show and are still hoping Hogan will be involved. They figured he doesn't want to jeapordize a possible WMXX appearence so they're now focusing on doing something in the summer.

Why do it in May? Currently there aren't any programs with real momentum that would warrant a big blowoff in May, unless they catch fire with something all of a sudden. Sometime in the next 2-3 weeks we'll see Jarrett-Styles, then probably Jarrett vs. transitional opponents over the next month, all while building up Raven. After he wins the feud with Punk, he can set his eyes on Jarrett and go for the gold at the May PPV. The question is whether or not Raven vs. Jarrett can draw a damn thing again. If they go for it in May, they basically have to abandon Raven-Punk right now. When I think of a card sans Hogan...

Jarrett vs. Raven

Styles vs. Sting

Ultimate X 3 (You know they'll do this)

Sabin vs. Juvi the rematch

Abyss vs. Someone..

AMW vs. XXX

.....

I honestly don't think a card like that has a chance in hell of drawing.

I agree with Michrome.

Right now all the feuds that are going (and they seem to all be nearer to beginning than ending) aren't big card blow off worthy.

If they set a date months away they can wrap those up and start bigger ones.

Raven should definitely beat Jarrett that night, though.

Perfect time for Hogan, Hall, and Nash to show up

Too bad WWE owns the name/rights/everything associated with the nWo....unless TNA comes up with something else, and they already did the nWo/WCW rip off with SEX/Tradition last year.

Uhh...Michrome, Brian...you two realize that May is three and a half months away, right? Any feuds they have going now can EASILY be blown off in about half that time, and new ones start. Besides, Michrome, ANY card from TNA wouldn't really draw shit, when you think about it.

From The Observer:

TNA continues to have talks with Kevin Nash about bringing Nash, as well as Scott Hall, in to work as a tag team. The plan right now if they do sign is to turn Jeff Jarrett face and have a program with Hall & Nash against Jarrett & Sting.

Nash is asking for $7,500 a week to appear. Back when Hall was working TNA shows during the promotion's first months, he was getting $7,500. Since then, TNA has drastically cut back on their salaries.

A few months ago I would have agreed, but there's no sense in advertising at this point, the show is *so* bad. When (if) they catch fire again, then do some advertising, because at this point any new viewers will leave in a week due to the shitty product.

Here's a plan...

1. Write up 4 show contracts for Hall and Nash for a grand total of $60,000

2. Tear up contracts and spend it on advertising instead.

 :headbang:

I'm almost sure that it wouldn't go down like that in any rate.

The crowd isn't going to boo Hall and they probably won't boo Nash either.

They'd be better off doing Nash/Hall vs. JJ/Abyss if they were dead set on it. Save the money on Sting...and Abyss could get something of a big man rub by going over Nash.

In any event...I pass.

$7,500 per appearence?!?!! What does Raven make? a FIFTH of that much per show? HAHAHA! (Throws bricks at Jarrett'd house if he's dumb enough to do this)

Honestly I can live perfectly fine if I never see Hall or Nash EVER again.

It's hard to see how they could justify any kind of $35 show without bringing in the likes of Hall and Nash.

How about showing good wrestling. I think that would work, instead of bringing in two has beens.

Well that's what they should be doing with their weekly show - to my mind they need something special to hype up a $35 effort.

I agree with eirej.

That's why I was in favor of the Hogan idea as it was presented.

If you want to put on the same show (with an extra hour) and treat it as a "big event" all you're going to do is lower the purchases of your regular show.

That's why you shouldn't do weekly ppvs...and they shouldn't think about doing a "big event" unless they have a free TV show.

If they are determined to do it anyway...they just have to get something that they don't usually have.

See, I think they could easily have a kickass show without Hogan. I understand he was the whole marketing ploy for the "big event" but there are other ways of going about it. They could do a tournament of sorts, such as Super X2, or have a tournament for a new title, etc. Also they should try to bring in other talent from elsewhere(like how they were going to bring in Tiger Mask). They should bring in all different types of Indy workers, (Backseats, John Walters, Chris Hero, etc)especially because the "smarks"(their main fan base), would eat it up and it actually might get a good buyrate.

I really wanna see a list of buyrates. Instead of hearsay before I could actually form an opinion on what's working for TNA and whats not. Whenever they bring in a big name(Sting, Piper, Hogan) they only really advertise online. When they should be getting tv spots to really draw any fans into buying.

Furthermore, TNA should build up to this ppv, and then get tv time on a decent sized network for one night and air a TNA 2 hour special to hype up all the feuds going into the big pay-per-view. They could advertise it for two weeks in advance on various channels, and probably increase buyrates for this big event. But hey that's only an idea. (Hey if panda can shell out cash for the ppvs weekly why not buy tv time for one week.)

EDIT: After thinking about the idea...At the rate advertisements go for now...if they failed to draw in viewers permanately....then they would die...so just scratch my post altogether lol.

They're already dying, Buzz. They're not breaking even, barely 1/4 of the live crowd actually pays, and their core fanbase (the IWC) is pissed at them for refusing to utilize their better workers in favor of schmucks like Erik Watts and Michael Shane.

Bound For Glory will fail, just as TNA is failing. Free TV is a necessity for a wrestling promotion that is attempting to gain exposure on a national level to succeed at all. Dutch books for free TV. This is PPV. The weekly PPVs are not as good as they should be, given their talent roster and the fact that we need to pay to see it each week, and an extra hour won't really change that.

Let's think of the BEST (and somewhat realistic) card possible:

Jeff Jarrett vs. Raven

Hall and Nash vs. America's Most Wanted

AJ Styles vs. Sting

Super X 3 (Skipper, Shane, Sabin, Dutt)

Low Ki vs. Christopher Daniels

Ken Shamrock vs. Abyss

CM Punk vs. D'Lo Brown

Looking at this show the way it is, I would definitely buy it, but the question is, would anyone else? I think AMW vs. Hall and Nash would be sweet, if only because it's TNA's ace team against Hall and Nash, plus it would be fresh. Styles really needs to go over Sting, and we've been waiting for Jarrett-Raven forever. Punk-Brown is just because.

Frankly, I'd just kill to have Punk do a straightedge promo on Scott Hall...I can always dream.

I may get shit for this, but look.......if Goldberg is gone from the WWE by the time of the NWA PPV, they should look into bringing the guy in for one night.

Outside of Hogan, he'd be the most recognizable free agent they could sign.

Super X 3 (Skipper, Shane, Sabin, Dutt)

Low Ki vs. Christopher Daniels

Ken Shamrock vs. Abyss

CM Punk vs. D'Lo Brown

I'd say have Shamrock against Brown, and maybe even have Styles/Abyss instead of Styles/Sting (if only because Abyss is a better worker these days than Sting, and AJ and Abyss know each other very well from Wildside, raising the chance of having a great match that much higher). Outsiders/AMW I'm not too keen on, but I don't like either team, so I could just take a crap when that's on.

Hmmmm...my Bound For Glory card, considering the direction I feel the current storylines are heading? I'll have to start from the opener, since two matches, in particular, I feel would be better off if I explained them in order...

6-Man X-Division Match for #1 Contendership to the X-Division title

Elix Skipper vs. Chris Hero vs. Michael Shane vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Juventud Guerrera

Starts the show off with a nice, fast-paced, multi-man X-Division bout. The restraints placed on the X-Division workers are taken off, and Dutt is allowed to go all out.

No Disqualifications - if Raven wins, he gets a shot at the NWA World title later tonight; if Punk wins, Raven has to leave TNA forever

Raven vs. CM Punk

Raven wins, of course. Bloody match that sees both men nearly killing each other for 12 minutes.

#1 Contendership to Tag Team titles

Simon & Swinger vs. The Naturals

Simon & Swinger win, but The Naturals destroy them post-match, making them practically THE heel tag team of the division.

International X-Division Attraction

LowKi vs. Tiger Mask 4

Very fast-paced, stiff, psychology-laden bout with the winner, be it Ki or Tiger, BARELY winning. Handshake post-match.

No Disqualifications, No Count-Outs, Falls Count Anywhere

3 Live Kru vs. Redshirt Security

It'd be a garbagey brawl, so all of BG James' in-ring weaknesses would be concealed in the weapon usage. Redshirts go over, and beat 3 Live Kru down HEAVILY post-match.

No Inteference By Punishment Of Contract Termination

AJ Styles vs. Abyss

The two know each other in the ring very well due to their mutual experience in NWA Wildside. They've been proven to work well together in TNA whenever booked against each other. Would be a solid match.

NWA World X-Division championship

Chris Sabin © vs. Jerry Lynn

Lynn, the man that put the X-Division on the map, takes on the current superstar of the X-Division in Sabin for his title. If Lynn stays with TNA this long, this match would be very good, and the winner (most likely Sabin) would benefit from this match. Post-match handshake is a must.

NWA World Tag Team championship

America's Most Wanted © vs. The Outsiders

Assuming TNA can get Hall and Nash for at least this one show, I'll just take a shitbreak right here.

NWA World Heavyweight championship - No Interference By Punishment Of Contract Termination

Jeff Jarrett © vs. Raven

Raven finally realizes his destiny in a nearly 30-minute, epic drama of a match. More blood is shed, and both men will go to every length to walk away with the title. Post-match, Raven celebrates with the belt as everybody that has ever been fucked over by Jarrett (in storyline) comes out to congratulate him.

The Torch says that it's a go for April, with NWATNA trying to sign Hall/Nash and Shamrock for the event.

Toby Keith will be performing, which is reason enough not to watch.

Yeah it is the news thing from the Torch.

TNA Officially Moves 3 Hour PPV To April

And Hogan won't be involved...

Jeff Jarrett announced in a meeting backstage at the TNA PPV last night that the company's first 3 hour Sunday PPV, Bound for Glory, will take place in April. He also ended rumors by stating that Hulk Hogan will not be on the PPV.

The event was originally slated for November with Jeff Jarrett vs. Hulk Hogan as the main event. Hogan then pulled out due to a knee injury and has since distanced himself from TNA.

The PPV will likely take place at an army base in Kentucky.

TNA is likely to bring in Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Ken Shamrock, and whichever other big names they can get for the PPV. Country music star Toby Keith will also perform.
