RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 *Mirko Cro Cop vs. Ron Waterman *Heath Herring vs. Gan McGee *Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Dan Bobish *Mark Kerr vs. Norihisa Yamamoto *Sergei Kharitonov vs. Los Angeles Giant (Zero-One pro wrestler) *Murilo Ninja vs. Alexander Otsuka *Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Dos Caras Jr. There's not a fight here that I actually want to see... they were doing so well, too. *Shudders*
Guest NCJ Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Wow that card sucks. Only the McGee vs Herring fight is even remotely interesting. And that is only to see how McGee recovers from the beating he took from Sylvia. Hopefully Waterman vs. Cro Cop ends in a viscious first round KO, and we get some more fights added to the card. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 I'm kinda happy, though, since I believe there's going to be a week-long tape delay as well as it's positioned pretty close to UFC 46; so it's a lot cheaper just buying the one
Guest NCJ Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Very true . The UFC is coming out blazing this year with 46 and 47. Hopefully they can keep it up .
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Yeah, and the rumour is that they've signed (or are so close they practically are) a deal with SpikeTV... a very good year indeed if that is true.
Guest NCJ Report post Posted January 20, 2004 I have the strangest love hate relationship with Spike TV. They have no regular show that I like, but the Star Trek TNG and Highlander reruns, along with Raw and the occasional good movie makes me watch. If they get the UFC I would have no choice but to give in to the evil that is the Spike network.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Most Extreme Challenge is actually a pretty funny show and Joe Schmoe was good as well. I've seen way too many Nex Gen re-runs through... Let's just hope they don't see the UFC as their next SLAMBALL *shudders*.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Ugly, UGLY card, but you can't expect any promotion to knock one out of the park every time.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 I know, we were spoiled by PRIDE in 2003... And hopefully, this builds towards another -better- show.
Guest NCJ Report post Posted January 20, 2004 I wouldn't mind seeing Newton vs. Renzo Gracie II on a trampoline. Just to see Newton try to pull off a hurican kick into a dragon punch into a Guiltone Choke combo.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Screw you guys, this card has "Freak Show" all over it. I can't wait to watch this, with plenty of sick knockouts and all. They can't have their top guys fighting each other on every card anyway, as that's the sort of "Even steven" booking that messed up the WWF. You need a Saturday Night's Main Event in there somewhere
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 Dunno, if anyone else has said this yet, but Wanderlei Silva vs. Ikuhisa Minowa and Akihiro Gono vs. Mauricio 'Shogun" Rua have been anounced for PRIDE Bushido card (they look to be going for a Chute Boxe Academia vs. Japan theme). Quick thoughts: - They're really misuing Minowa. He's already one of the most entertaining fighters in the world, and training with the BTT can only help him improve, but why match this 185lbs. fighter against two of the top 205lbs. fighters in the world off the bat? - Gono is so underrated it's criminal. I personally think he won the fight against Mauricio's brother Murilo (although it was ruled a draw). From what I've seen of Shogun, he may actually be a better fighter overall then Ninja, but I'll still take Gono via JD.
Styles 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 So...for those who read about the show, how was it? PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!! I would have read spoilers if I wanted to know who won and how. Most of you seem pretty down on the show, but even after the deflated ending of the UFC show, the overall show itself has me hungry for more MMA and seriously considering ordering the Pride show. So was the show good or bad?
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Im going to hold out for the Bushido show as I want to see Wanderlei Silva and as well as the next UFC show. Cant wait for Liddell to kick the shit out of Ortiz.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Lemme put it this way; I now want to see the show. With that said, I'm not sure if I'm going to pay $30 for it.
Styles 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2004 Lemme put it this way; I now want to see the show. With that said, I'm not sure if I'm going to pay $30 for it. That's an interesting response. Is it because the show's already spoiled for you? I'll probably go ahead and order it. Anyone else want to weigh in with non spoiler opinions?
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2004 It's not a show I'd pay $30 for. Just like how some movies you'd just wait to come out on DVD. Not that great, but still worth watching.
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2004 *Mirko Cro Cop vs. Ron Waterman *Heath Herring vs. Gan McGee *Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Dan Bobish *Mark Kerr vs. Norihisa Yamamoto *Sergei Kharitonov vs. Los Angeles Giant (Zero-One pro wrestler) *Murilo Ninja vs. Alexander Otsuka *Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Dos Caras Jr. ehhhhh, Cro Cop/Waterman sounds fun, simply because I mark huge for Cro Cop. Heath Herring, i've never seen fight. Is he any good? Vovchancyn! Yaaaay! I think the funniest thing is Dos Caras Jr....RickyChosyu knows what I'm talking about. But yeah, sounds like fun. Guest neodragonsan Report post Posted February 9, 2004 Herring is...well...hit or miss He can be a very impressive fighter (Pride 17 against Nog was excellent), or not so great... From what I heard of that fight though, it sounded decent
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted February 9, 2004 Certainly a good performance by Heath tonight. He finished the fight strong in the third round, looking for the KO while McGee just wanted to wait it out for the decision. Herring took quite a bit of abuse early on, too, as both his eyes had cuts under them and one of them looked swelled completely shut. That was definitely the best fight. The rest of the card wasn't that hot. The beginning really dragged, with the first two fights being really unmemorable and Otsuka/Ninja ending abrudtly with the foul, which resulted in Otsuka lying there while Doctors checked him out for around five minutes until they finally decided to postpone the fight. Caras/Nakamura had a good first round, but the rest was not good at all, with both men stalling. Things didn't pick up until the Ninja/Otsuka restart, which was pretty good, and then Heath/McGee. Waterman/Cro Cop was fun, too.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 How was the new(er) announcer? I've heard his Muay Thai commentating on TSN but haven't heard his PRIDE stuff.
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 he was lame, in all honesty. He was basically Micheal Cole 2.0. Meaning he kinda knew his stuff, but he just said some really dumb stuff.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 Yeah, that's pretty much well like his Muay Thai commentary LOL.
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 yeah, most of the time you were just waiting for Bas to punch him in the head. Which would have made my day.
Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 They got another new announcer? Is this the guy that debuted at the middleweight Grand Prix opening round? Or is it someone else?
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 It's Mauro Ranallo, not Damon Perry (who I liked). He did the Bushido and Shockwave shows.
Guest The Son of Sting Report post Posted February 9, 2004 What kind of shape was Mark Kerr in?
Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 So what happened to Perry? I figure, if you have to replace Quadros, than Perry was a nice fit. Whose this new guy? Has he taken over for Pride full time?
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 Hopefully not. I stopped watching wrestling to escape Micheal Cole. and Kerr was in great shape. It's a damn shame that he lost the way he did. Absolutely tragic. But he kept his chin up about it, so he's a good guy.
