Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 I'm picking Diamond Dave. I find his stuff more listenable than anything produced by Hagar or Cherone when they were not in Van Halen.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 AAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
B. Brian Brunzell Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 The fact that DLR had Steve Vai playing lead on his solo albums in the 80s makes him the automatic winner. Plus, it's DAVID LEE ROTH.
Nighthawk Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Hagar! Hagar's the greatest, I don't know why people bash him so often.
Red Baron Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Hagar isn't bad, but DLR had Vai as a guitarist. Plus Yankee Rose.
Nighthawk Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 I don't think DLR should get much credit on account of Steve Vai. That's like saying Steve Guttenberg is the best actor because he was in a movie with Lawrence Olivier.
Henry Spencer Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Cherone, but only because I used to listen to Extreme when I was a little kid.
C Dubya 04 Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Roth easily. Although "I can't drive, 55" was an instant classic, "Just a Gigalo" owns all other songs ever.
Slayer Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Although "I can't drive, 55" was an instant classic Also "There's Only One Way to Rock" My vote goes with Dave
B. Brian Brunzell Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Of course, Sammy was a part of Montrose back BEFORE the Van Hagar days and made some good stuff, like "Bad Motor Scooter" and "Rock Candy." Still, I don't think that's enough to overtake Dave as king.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 I enjoyed most of Sammy's Non Halen work, as a kid, and I still do. I also enjoyed all of Roth's Non Halen work. Actually I think Sammy was better for Van Halen than Roth.
