TNA notes from the Torch's Jason Powell

Recommended Posts

-TNA is advertising the following matches and events for next Wednesday's pay-per-view: Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears will appear, Erik Watts vs. Don Callis in a loser must resign match, Chris Sabin vs. Michael Shane for the X Title, 3 Live Kru vs. Redshirt Security for the NWA Tag Titles, D-Lo Brown vs. Abyss, Mike Tenay interviews Johnny Fairplay.

-TNA has also listed the wrestlers who will compete in the America's X Cup tournament on Feb. 11: Jerry Lynn, Elix Skipper, Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, Hector Garza, Juventud Guererra, Abismo Negro, and Mr. Aguila (formerly Essa Rios). This looks like a great tournament on paper. I would prefer to see Low-Ki or Chris Daniels rather than Skipper, but Skipper is no slouch either.

-TNA officials held a meeting with talent prior to Wednesday night's pay-per-view. During the meeting, Jeff Jarrett mentioned April as a possible timeframe for the "Bound for Glory" pay-per-view and said the site may be a military base in Kentucky. Country music singer Toby Keith may perform at the show.

-Vince Russo returned to TNA and looked so different from the last time he showed up that some of the crew didn't recognize him at first. Russo was clean shaven and now has short hair. He has been telling friends that he has found religion and has totally changed his lifestyle to the point that he no longer uses profanity.

-The early buzz on Jonny Fairplay is that he was very respectful in the locker room and didn't appear to rub anyone the wrong way. Some of the locker room regulars had their guard up in anticipation of Fairplay living up to his reputation, but even those wrestlers have remarked that they were pleasantly surprised by Fairplay.

-James Storm suffered a broken finger and a shoulder injury during his tag match against Red Shirt Security. He told friends that the injuries were suffered on separate suplexes.

I can't wait for the next feud...

Bible On A Pole Match:

Jake Roberts vs. Vince Russo

I think Russo has the edge because Roberts will be too drunk/stoned to stand on the top rope, let alone climb them.

I've been told they are talking about Fort Campbell,KY which is on the western side of the state almost on the Kentucky/ Tennessee border.

Bah, it'll be a swerve which will lead to Russo "shooting" on religious people in wrestling as being hypocritical or some shit. I.E. he's shoot on Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho.

Watch, you know it'll be a storyline. Ha, no one can ever trust any Vince Russo related news. It's funny.

The only thing I know to expect from Russo's return is that more and more WWE rejects will be brought in.

I don't think there is anything in the world Russo likes more than trying to get someone over that the WWE couldn't find anything for.

Worked for Ron Killings.

I couldn't imagine hearing "WWF Champion K-Kwik" in the same sentence.

Yeah, He was right on with Ron Killings at that time. It was also refreshing to see a writer say one thing and actually do it. I remember when Russo first became associated around week 4 he said in an interview that he sees so much charisma in Killings he doesn't know what WWE was thinking...and a month later he was champion.

For every Killings story their's a Mabel, Ekmo and Mad Mikey (although one could argue that Mikey got over...and Ekmo didn't actively suck in his limited tag role)

(Cries remembering Ron Killings being paired with Nelson Knight (Mabel) for 2 weeks during the "We have nothing for you to do right now" period.)

Hard seeing how great TNA was (as good as it could be that is) a year ago and see how different it is.

xXx ruled all! Bring back The New Church! Fire Dutch Mantel!!

(brain explodes)

They should be doing all they can to snag Spanky for the X-Division in between his tours of Japan.

And call me crazy, but I think they could conceivably find something worthwhile for Dustin Runnels to do.
