Guest Krazy Karter Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 TVShowsOnDVD.com Last summer we posted this news about plans for the original 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon coming on DVD in March 2004 from Artisan, albeit in a form that was considered "bad news" (read the story at that link for details). The fans wanted to "open up a dialogue" with Artisan and see if the format of the release could be changed. Since then things have been rather quiet on that front, even as DVDs from the TMNT '03 series continued to be released. Now we have a new hint of activity on the '87 series. Over at the official Mirage Studios website for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you can find an interesting item in their "Updates" section: Matt R. sent in this repsonse that he got from Artisan Home Entertainment regarding his inquiry about DVD releases of the orignal TMNT cartoon: "Thank you for your letter expressing interest in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You will be happy to know that we are planning to release the original episodes on DVD in April 2004. Thank you again for your interest in Artisan Home Entertainment." So now we see that the release was delayed one month, which possibly was simply a result of Artisan's merger with Lions Gate Entertainment. At this point in time we have no official word about what that release will consist of. Our thanks goes to Ryan Anderson for tipping us off to this. Stay tuned, because once the details DO leak out, we'll get word to you fast. In the meantime, hold the anchovies! We decided to follow-up with Lions Gate/Artisan regarding the news we brought you last week about TMNT coming to DVD. We've confirmed that the first set will be released on April 20th, along with 4 unaired episodes. Pricing, disc-configuration and any special features will likely come when the official press release is sent out later this week or early next week. SWEET! Also, Malibu now has something to wait for: Lions Gate Home Entertainment has set April 27th as the release date for the third and fourth seasons of Saved By The Bell. The set carries a suggested retail price of $44.99, but DVDEmpire.com is already selling the set for $33.74, and DVDPlanet.com has the pre-order on it for $31.47.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 If it was the new series, I may have been interested in it. I have no interest in the original. The new series is better, so Childhood memories be damned.
Star Ocean 3 Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 The new is already on DVD, not in season form, though.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 The new is already on DVD, not in season form, though. I know and I won't recognize a TV series on DVD until it's in season form.
razazteca Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 4 episodes per DVD is too expensive, 10 episodes per DVD is reasonable.
Bruiser Chong Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 I plan on dumping my box set (with the figurines) that I got from the DDD misprice a few months back. I paid roughly $14 for the set and only opened one of the DVDs. I feel like cashing in on it.
Use Your Illusion Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 The new Turtles DVD's only have *three* episodes per disc, plus extras, not four. However, because I am such a huge Turtles fan and due to the fact the new season kicks fucking ass, I'm forking out the necessary money until I own all of season one on DVD. And HOLY SHIT to the original being released, I'll definetely be looking into that. This, on top of the ultra-mega-super-ejaculation-special LOTR set and the upcoming 'Wrestlemania's on DVD' releases, are going to leave me one poor, yet satisfied, young man. Leonardo > You UYI
