TNA news from the Observer

Recommended Posts

They are going to be running a major Sunday PPV every 3 months, with the first on 4/4 in KY and the second likely in Florida.

They will be cutting down on shows per month, with one taped show airing every month. The first taped show is 2/11, with matches for it being taped 1/28 and 2/4.

There is talk of Bringing Heenan in.

It's about time someone thought about taping some weeks. It saves so much money it's ridiculous that they don't do it.

Plus...the February 11th show will get more buys than their live week to week shows anyway.

Knowing that everyone will know the results ahead of time can actually work to their advantage if they put on a couple matches those weeks that people know will be good.

Great point.

I'd also love for them to bring Heenan in, though at this time I highly doubt that.

However, I don't care for the Sunday ppv's every three months. I think if it were limited to one or two per year, it would give each a higher degree of credibility, and the chance for supercards would be higher. I think they're just grasping at straws to break out into mainstream publicity.

I'll wait to see the first one air before I believe they think they can do one every 3 months.

The first one was supposed to air in November!

Let me think...3 months would put their shows in April, July, October, January.

April is Backlash (RAW)...which is usually crap.

July is Vengeance (SD)...was great last year.

October is No Mercy (SD)...blah last year.

January is Rumble (both)...and that's always killer.

In my opinion, they should take less money in organizing said pay per views, and focus on promoting the company as a whole first.

Even in managing to develop 4 major pay per view events, how many more buys do they think they will receive?

I can't see how they'd get any more. In theory its the show an hour longer for god knows how much more money.

Exactly.

I think if anything, they'll get less buys. Especially if the card is crap.

There'll be no incentive to order, in the thought that another will be along in three months with a potentially better card, whereas if it happened once a year, it'd have that aura of being *must see*, and that *anything can happen*.

They tried this taped ppv thing before when they first started out and noone bought the taped shows, which is why they switched to live weekly pretty quickly.

That's wrong. They only did that the very first week they ran - they taped week 2 right after. They had already decided before it even happened that they were scrapping that idea. Plus, even if you think they hadn't decided yet (which is just wrong), it still doesn't make sense because they don't find out their buys for at least a year, so there's no way they wouldv'e known right away.

By the way, that second show probably wouldn't have gotten any buys if people hadn't heard how great the x-division main event was.

I like the idea of a big Sunday ppv every 3 months and this is why:

It gives them an opportunity to focus their booking towards something. Right now, it's just kind of week to week to week to week with no beginning or end. It just seems like they're never going anywhere. With a big event every 3 months, there is something big to build angles to and then blow them off.

Cool. I live in Clarksville, TN which is right next to Fort Campbell or has parts of the base in the city in some cases. But, anyways even thought I don't get the PPVs here I'll go to the show if they do come here.

TNA needs a better business plan. Who the hell is going to buy a Sunday PPV that doesn't already buy their Wednesday ones??? They need people to know they exist that aren't on the internet and aren't already watching them before worrying about bringing in Hall and Nash for some PPV that's going to tank.

I actually think a great idea would be to do 2 big PPV shows a year. This would give their weekly shows something to work towards. This in turn would make the Wed shows look more important, escpecially if the two big shows were well recieved. But anyway you cut it big PPV's or not, they are going to have to improve on their week to week product before they can REALLY start building a strong fanbase.

I think they should do a monthly PPV for 9.99, and make the sunshine network show their primary one.

I'm not pretending that their current business plan is making them any money or anything, but how exactly would they make any money doing that?

They would stop losing money, which is step 1 before making money. They would be able to build up shows on free tv, and could make the shows downloadable online for those that don't have the Sunshine network. It would build to one event per month that could even be 14.99 for 3 hours, and would at least garauntee people good matches and major events.

But they wouldn't be making any money off the Sunshine Network show. How would they pay to produce the show? How would they pay the wrestlers. And, the probably have to pay just to get on the network. Their only source of income would be $4 for every person that would buy their once a month ppv. That doesn't seem logical at all.
